With the likes of Mastodon, free open source p2p alternatives, why bother with a company that just wants to sell your clicking habits to advertisers and heavily censors your comments?

Interesting that a person applying for the CEO position of Twitter is asking for payment in Bitcoin. That is how strong bitcoin has become over the years. More adoption yet to come and we may see even the majority workforce in USA getting paid in bitcoin.

If you already have millions in your bank account, such kind of bitcoin payment may make sense. But for the majority of the workforce who lives from paycheck to paycheck, it's a stupidity. The volatility of bitcoin can put any salaried person into big mess especially those who have liabilities.

A certain percentage of bitcoin payment may make sense but definitely not the entire salary. Edward Snowden may have made millions from his excile days but not everyone is fortunate like him. Unless the price of bitcoin shows stability, majority of the workforce would never accept bitcoin as salary payment.

Interesting proposal from an interesting person, but let's be honest — the chances of this happening is next to zero. Even if Elon wanted it, it would be a regulatory nightmare for him.
That is true but Elon is also quite fond a regulatory nightmares and I think that he will find the proposal quite interesting. I 'd love to see that happen

I'm waiting for Elon to come up with another tweet concerning the poll that he has made. It seems that he'll kick himself out of the CEO position and having that said, Snowden applies for it showing his interest in the position. I doubt that Elon will just actually give him that position since he's no longer a US citizen. Just a few months ago Snowden was granted by the Russian government his citizenship there. So, there could be some conflicts with it along with personal interest.

It would be interesting if it became true but this is click bait news.  Snowden was certainly ironic while Musk remains the usual self-centered who is shattering a platform that at least worked before his arrival.

I am pretty sure that OP hasn't realized it yet or maybe knew it and just doesn't care but Snowden is a runner, dude can't live anywhere properly and that means bitcoin is his only hope, he can't get any type of banking because it would be impossible for him to keep that in cash, and can't put it in any bank neither because any bank that accepts him as a customer would be cut-off from the world banking system or at least would have to seize his money to be involved with the banking world again.

So, bitcoin is his only option and he has no other option left. This doesn't mean that it was a serious application neither, dude is a runner, how could he be the CEO, it's just a joke.

And I am too. This is not even newsworthy, why the hell would Snowden be the new CEO, and why are we even discussing it. Like I would be too, and you wouldn't make it a news right? Because why would you? Why would some guy who is a random would be the CEO and be a news. I get that Snowden is a bit famous due to leaks and I get that, I understand that part but he is not a social media manager or anything like that, dude has NOTHING to do with being CEO, its like Lebron James or Ronaldo, or Gordon Ramsay said it, like absolutely irrelevant person. And we somehow still consider this news for some weird reason.

Don't let others control your BTC -> self custody
I've read that Elon asked in a poll if he should step down as CEO and the answer was yes. Let's see what he does, but the people have spoken.
I'd like to see Snowden as the CEO, just for fun, but it would be impossible for a wanted citizen of Russia to get the position in a legitimate US company. It would be a huge "fuck you" towards the US government, which I'd love to see.

That was just a joke, because it's not possible to put such proposal on practice. USA wouldn't accept Twitter accessible on their country if a man who is wanted by them is the CEO of the company. Probably allied nations would follow USA's lead on this matter, also forbidding Twitter right after. So, besides the currently financial issue Twitter is facing, they would have another one, besides worsening the financial status more yet.

Surely, it was intended as a joke because Elon doesn't have any bitcoin and he won't touch it because it's not environmentally friendly enough. Wink
Elon is a master manipulator, why are we even talking about him?

Doubt.  Big doubt.

Bitcoin is getting more adopted than ever before.  But this will not make Bitcoin the favorite choice of the majority.  States will not allow this to happen.  And it would be a huge disappointment and a big failure because imagine your salary ranged from $500 to $1,500 through out every 30 days instead of being set at a fixed $1,000.

-----

If Elon wants Twitter to fail, choosing Snowden as the new CEO is the way.  While Snowden said a lot of very important and interesting things, he is still seen by most people as some body sitting on Putin's lap.  Would be a big scandal nonetheless.

That's a great proposal but I doubt if Elon Musk is going to accept his proposal.
If the man of mars (Elon Musk) eventually agrees to pay him with crypto I doubt if it will be Bitcoin he might be willing to pay him with Dogecoin rather than Bitcoin judging from the fact that Elon Musk supports Dogecoin he might just use this as a means to manipulate Dogecoin's market.

Yeah, I doubt Snowden’s application to step in as CEO of twitter would receive a second review. But it is interesting he’s opting for the job and more interesting, the choice to be paid in bitcoin. I think the fact that he sees bitcoin as a legit means of payment and is indirectly spreading the word about bitcoin is what’s note worthy. I personally don’t care who runs twitter as the CEO.
Lately Elon, with his newfound incessant twitting habit has been  in my opinion, doing a poor job of running the app that anyone other than him would be better.

I don't pay much attention to Elon's sensational tweets which are created for attention, nor is an average individual concerned with the administrative aspects of running Twitter.

Snowden offering as CEO might be a bit of crazy. But he might be able to make the Twitter more alive, Snowden must have lots of things to discuss in relation to free speech that's for sure.
A CEO does not necessarily need to draw traffic through discussions, if Twitter needed that, it would be better of going for an influencer. Also, the success of a business, even a social media platform, is far more than building traffic and engagements.

it doesn't look like twitter is going to die. is it?
a lot of people are still there and are tweeting every minute. and there are still lots of discussions that are trending.

Far too early to say anything meaningful on that matter. It's clearly bleeding, but it's far from bleeding to death.
The problem is that Elon was probably expecting the opposite: a tremendous growth from second one under his lead; and the current state (people publicly moving to another platform and calling the others join in there) is a bit bad for the business...

Is it only me who finds these polls made by Elon just desperate attempts for advertising his new toy (yes, Twitter) and keep some action going on there?
I find a bit unlikely Elon will step down this quick - he might find some trick to get out of this dilemma he created for himself - and I also find it highly unlikely to make Twitter CEO people like Snowden or Snoop Dogg or others who would propose themselves as CEO.

He desperately needs a solution, especially after he "restored the freedom" and then started disallowing this and that (including the most visible thing: the links to competition), and a new CEO could be the salvation he needs. But, again, I have some doubts he will do it.

The only correct/hones thing in this shitshow is Elon's answer there:

The question is not finding a CEO, the question is finding a CEO who can keep Twitter alive

I believe Twitter should not have a CEO that could do whatever he wishes. There should be some kind of board of directors to take the decisions in group  and this group should have multiple political point of views.

I like Snowden, but I think a more neutral person and not so polemical would be better
