More than a dozens of Twitter accounts from verified profile are being hacked and posted is scam posts bye scammers.Because Twitter API is compromised by them. This is the biggest Twitter hack ever.

yeah, there are a lots of prominent personalities that being hacked around twitter, known names like Binance and Musk where the hackers
as the same thing. It's just bad because there are still people who are not doing their research and simply acknowledge this scam attempt.
People who got scam by tweets like this are not being careful, aside from greed also being desperate push them to participate.

they actually believe on it instantly because the tweet came from thier idols and its a verified account , i think if im one of them following those people and if ever i have a plenty of btc ill be one of those who got scammed but thankfully im not active on social medias anymore and i also dont have a btc now .  i dont think those high profile people are careless enough to get scammed but it already done.  atleast we learned something new here that we shouldnt easily put trust no matter how reputable the person are

It wasn't only Elon Musk, but many high profile users such as Jeff Bezos, Bill gates and Barack Obama too. These sort of things are really bad as they are ruining the reputation of Bitcoin. People no matter how easy it is to trace bitcoin address would think that Bitcoin is something shady used by hackers. I hope that FBI is able to track down the people who have done it because that would set a new example to such scammers. But yes there is one thing Hacking account of ex-president United States definitely requires a lots of Guts. I am curious how high profile these hackers are.

Tweet removed.  But it was definitely from his account.  I blocked the wallet to prevent anyone silly enough to think he'd actually do anything like it.

Quite the high profile account to get hacked though.

This is the type of profile the hacker should have had its focus on. Imagine, big announcements being posted from the accounts of these huge influences, if you wanted you could easily cause artificial pumping of several coins. I'm not saying this is how to go about doing things, I'm simply stating that this could have been a lot worse.

although I feel bad for the victims. this is a clever move on the hacker's side. it is guaranteed that there will be people gullible enough to believe in something like this, especially if a very reputable person made a statement like that.

Last I checked the hackers had made off with around 12.8 btc.

can you share the source/link? would love to see if the amount has increased.

He is just one among famous persons. In fact I'm not surprised and I think it was just matter of time. It seems that Twitter has some serious security issues and this is not the first incident. They will have to explain a lot of things.
It doesn't also surprise me that so many people have fallen for this, not many check what is going on before they send the money.

Every of prominent twitter accounts were hacked and they all tried to convince people that the giveaway were real. It's still surprising how so many people are falling for such scams.

Can you differentiate and know before hand that those accounts are hacked? That is the main reason why people have fallen for this scam because the tweet itself come from those verified accounts.

No business would ever provide money for free and even if they did, they'd not ask users to send a lot of money first. Crypto is being infamous for such scams both due to the scammers and people falling for it. The largest hack in the social media till date just to get some bitcoin.

I agree, but then again the argument that you really don't have prior knowledge about the hack, makes you think that this is really legitimate. So it's not crypto's fault though, it's not the system that has fault here, but security lapses on part of Twitter.

his account was also compromized? lol jesus whos account is safe in twitter?

its definitely not elon's tweet. it simply just contradicts to his claim that he only has 0.25 BTC in his wallet so this tweet is just not coming from him. anyone from crypto who followed elon knew about it.

they should also target actors because that will really be making more exposure to BTC.  this isn't a hacker but a degenerate scammer just tweeting to double is an old trick that old dogs kept reusing.

Meanwhile it is known that not the individual Twitter accounts were hacked, but the hackers apparently gained access to a Twitter admin account through social engineering.
Screenshots of an internal Twitter tool for account management were also published.

And this is how the admin tool reportedly looks like, which is used to control user accounts:

They'd be targeting high-profile figures to ensure that they will get something out of the gullible people who think that figures such as Elon and Bill Gates would do something like this just because they're.. rich. They are already giving lots of money in the form of charity and the only people who'd be doing such actions are those chasing the clout and wanting to get some attention in exchange of some money. I just hope that they get caught (I doubt it) for such actions. A lot of coins actually came through on that same address, which is quite surprising considering how people should actually be aware of such but still gets scammed in the end.

I also saw the tweet on Twitter, wasn’t on Elon Musk page, but on Bill Gates’ Twitter and I didn’t need anyone to tell me that his account was hacked and it was a scam. Later I got to discover through the media that it wasn’t just Elon Musk and Bill Gates, a lot of celebrities were hacked and that includes Kanye West and his wife Kim, Joseph R. Biden Jnr., Barack Obama, and others.

And of course there were lots of people that fell for it, I got to learn that the hackers received around $100,000.People should know that celebrities can’t do this kind of sh*t, telling you to send $1000 to receive double lol. It’s time they learn to be careful.

this is an outrage, i also read in a telegram group that binance twitter account and obama account has been hacked as well, how they manage to hacked this high profile account almost the same time, i don't want to insinuate but i smell something like an inside job somewhere, this is more like a hacking spree, they should tighten up their security.

Even high profile people are neither exempted nor secured to that kind of crimes in using social media platforms.

There is a scenario here that one of those internet provider companies here in our country was hacked by the Anonymous due to a bad service with a high fees. People are really suffering from slow internet connection, and yet, they are charging their customers with a high bills. That's the reason why the Twitter account of that company was hacked and Anonymous posted something and threatened the company to fix their issue and have a good service towards its customer. No one is safe in social media especially if it includes money, you are more prone to those hacking events even those people who use cryptocurrency.

“This is massive,” said cybersecurity expert Rachel Tobac, the CEO of SocialProof Security. “This is most likely the largest attack I’ve ever seen. We are extremely lucky that these attackers are monetarily motivated and not sowing mass chaos all over the world.”

Saw this awhile ago, that's the first news I saw this morning. And not just Elon Musk that was hacked;

Elon Musk, Bill Gates, and Jeff Bezos have been hacked as part of a widespread bitcoin giveaway scam.

These scammers are hacking popular btc enthusiasts twitter accountd to attract btc users and to make other fall for their fake giveaways, fake doubling scheme to scam people. As what I saw, many retweeted it already. Those who were unaware that the accounts were hacked will somehow believe on that crap.

Yeah, when I initially posted, I had only seen Musk's account had been compromised.

Last I checked the hackers had made off with around 12.8 btc.
