That's hyperinflation, a 6yo could understand that you can't just keep printing money. But if you got 10m at 4 sats and stake high, you're still in the profit zone when you sell for 4 sats again. Unfortunately, everybody who got in at higher prices with less coins is rekt, unless he buys much more now. It's a bit of a pyramid scheme and not really sustainable long term, not sure if the reward reduction on Nov 1st is going to fix that. The main problem is that the sole purpose of the coin seems to be staking, at least there's no other use case I see. I doubt anybody would use it in real world applications.
tl;dr if you got in early, you're sitting in such a tremendous amount of EMB now that you probably won't even care if it drops to 1-2 sats. If you got in later, bad luck.

Wrong. There is a limit of 850 million EMB, so a hyperinflation will not happen. And this is the difference between EMB and fiat.

Well, if total circulating supply is reached (and it is according to coinmarketcap.com), and if they're still paying out stake rewards, then something's not adding up.
You can call it hyperinflation, or something else, but something's fishy.

"PoS: 720% Annually"

So if I buy 1 million EMB and hold it for one year, it will rise up to 7.2 million EMB?

What's with the price dump on this coin? It seems as if everyone is staking like crazy. My question is who is doing all of the buying? Could the really large amount of stake rewards be driving down demand and price for this coin?

Yea it will be doing people who started a month ago are dumping there profits and soon as one starts they all start as they are panicking, this should chill out when stake goes down to 720% I decided to keep hold of my coins as I think price will go back up when they implement master nodes.

Yeah but you're missing the point that people who always started at ~1month ago will be dumping their coins until November and we will be seing the dip before November 1 and at least for a few weeks. From there, it might go anywhere. But going up to even 8 satoshis from now on will probably be months later, if ever. People will have so much coin by then, and there will be nobody to buy them. So we don't really need whales to dump this market. We ARE becoming the whales. I really want to hope for the best and keep my money in ember for a few months more, but I don't have much hope of it.

There should have been an upper limit for the coin circulation.
Now let's say I bought 4M coins at 8 satoshi on September 15.
By November 1, I should double my money 8 TIMES! Which would make around 1B coins.

In terms of BTC, my 0.32BTC becomes... wait for it..... 80 BTC!!!
Okay, let's be realistic and say EMB drops to 1 satoshi. Sad? Don't  be so sad... You will still have 10 BTC in 1.5 months with your 0.32BTC investment.

But we then come to the same question again. Who is to buy that much ember from you, when the market is filled with so many competitors that are waiting to sell.
Yes, this wasn't a scam. But it seems we are still fucked after all Cheesy

Hi everyone. I'm with the EmberCoin reboot team. While many answers to questions are readily available in the Ember Discord group, we realize that platform is not for everyone. That being said, please keep an eye out for:

http://www.embercoin.org/

A brand new, simple, but growing site with practical Ember coin information, FAQs, and soon, guided walkthroughs. Here's a taste of whats available. Thanks!

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Where can I download the wallet for Ember?

Answer : http://github.com/EmberCoin/Ember/releases/tag/v1.1.3-win-x86

Q:Where can I buy Ember?

Answer : https://www.cryptopia.co.nz/Exchange?market=EMB_BTC

Q: How do I install the Ember wallet?

Answer : Extract the zip folder you will now see the – Ember-qt file Move this program to a safe place i.e C:\MyWallets\Ember Right click ember wallet icon and select send to, then create shortcut on desktop. Double Click on Ember-qt shortcut and run program This will then create files in your AppData folder. Then follow the #deleted-channel guide to add the supplied peers.dat file After this the wallet should sync, which will take some time.

Q: Should I encrypt my wallet?

Answer : I always like to encrypt my wallet for security reasons, but if you do this, please make sure you create a strong secure password and don’t forget it! Write it down, store it somewhere safe such as Encryptr password manager – https://spideroak.com/personal/encryptr You will also need to make sure the wallet is unlocked for staking your Ember coins or you will not receive any rewards.

Q: Should I send all the coins I bought on the exchanges to my wallet?

Answer: No I would not recommend sending them all at once. I would send a few coins first to make sure that they arrive where they are supposed to, you can then send bigger amounts.

Q: How long do I have to leave my coins in the wallet to mature?

Answer: This usually takes around 10 hours.

Q: How long does it take to receive my first reward from staking?

Answer: Based on current difficulty it could takes days or weeks depending on how much EMB you have.

Q: Do I need to have my wallet open 24/7 to receive rewards?

Answer: Yes you do. This will of course, use electricity and take it’s toll on your computer/device.

Q: What is the reward given based upon?

Answer: It’s based on 1.) the amount you are staking, and 2) the network weight (which is the total amount being staked by everybody)

Q: Is there an alternative to having my computer on all the time?

Answer: Yes, used a cloud based server. Amazon currently offer this for free for the first year. https://aws.amazon.com/

Q: Is there a Rich List out there?

Answer: http://www.presstab.pw/phpexplorer/EMB/richlist.php

Q : Is my wallet safe on a VPS server? Should I back it up?

Answer: Always make regular backups of your wallet.dat file found in appdata folder to external storage such as a USB flash drive or a cloud based storage service, such as Google Drive, make sure you have a secure password on your Google/Cloud based storage.

Q: How do I find out the price of Ember on the Discord group?

Answer: Type – *EMB

Q: Can I Install it on Apple mac?

Answer: At the moment we only have a Windows wallet, but we will soon have wallet’s across various platforms. If you want to install the Windows wallet on mac you will need to install an application called ‘Wine’ see how to install it here:

Q: How do I estimate when I will get my stakes, and how much of a reward will I get?

Answer: Here’s how to estimate when you’ll get your stake. Go to http://www.presstab.pw/phpexplorer/EMB/index.php and look for Stake Weight Spent. Mouse over the red line – that’s where the average weight is when a payout happens. Your weight starts at your coin value and goes up as the coins age. This ensures you will get your stake eventually. The coins you get from staking is the same percentage, regardless of how many coins you have. It’s 7200% per year return, which means, 19.7% per day. So, if you have 1,000,000 coins, you will “earn” 197,000 coins per day. If it takes 2 days for the stake to be rewarded, you’ll get your per-day amount times 2, so 394,000 coins. Since the current stake weight is more like 9 million, it might take you 9 days to get your stake reward from 1,000,000 coins. In this case, your stake reward after 9 days would be 2,773,000 coins.

Q: Please explain the staking bug and how it affects me?(edited)

A: If you go over 38.81 million weight, the bug kicks in due to a fault in the code where a large enough integer wasn’t used. This causes your stake to appear as negative. So you won’t get a stake reward above 38.81 because now your stake is -38.81 and counting upwards until you reach 38.81 * 2 = 77.62. Then your stake will be 0 again and rising at that point you can get a stake reward again, but it will be lower than the 7200% expected becaues of that wrapping around to a negative number thing. The ability to get rewards wraps around every 38.81 million in stake weight. 38.81 * 2 = 77.62. Between 38.81 weight and 77.62, you wouldn’t be able to stake. 38.81 * 3 = 116.43. Between 77.62 and 116.43 you would be able to stake again, but with lower rewards. It continues like that. stake weight = number of coins stake weight (coin age) = number of coins * days staking stake weight (coin age) is used to determine when you get a stake reward through a random number calculation when stake weight (coin age) gets higher than 38.81 million, that’s when the bug happens. You still have your original amount of coins, it’s just the weight got too high for the integer dealing with rewards. So you send those coins to yourself (your wallet address) to reset the process.

I took this reward as an example: http://www.presstab.pw/phpexplorer/EMB/block.php?height=141127 So that stake input is 8,392,401. Figure out how long it takes to get to 38.81 mil weight. Divide one into the other for 4.62 days, which means in another 4.62 days the coin becomes available to stake again after the weight goes positive. So at 9.24 days the stake timer starts: total age is 11.08. 11.08 – 9.24 is 1.84 days of new staking. 1.84 days of staking at 7200% with 8,392,401 coins is about 3 million coins. Oh hey look, minted is 3,026,756. The math works.(Credit to @jt42)

Having issues establishing connections. I managed to download the blockchain, but after setting up encryption and restarting the wallet (windows, btw), I'm getting "out of sync" with no bar listing how many blocks behind (just the red text near "Wallet" and "Recent transactions").

I tried adding the nodes from the first page as well as the huge list a few pages back. It didn't seem to work through Ember.conf (assuming I'm setting it up right) and so I entered them (painstakingly) one at a time via the debug window. Occasionally I'll get a connection-sometimes up to 3 or 4-for a few minutes, but the problem persists. On top of not being able to stake, I recently transferred a good deal more EMB to my wallet that I can't access until it syncs.

Lastly, the wallet doesn't seem to want to close properly, I need to shut it down through task manager. Kaspersky identified it as a virus, I added it to exclusions, but I'm wondering if maybe this could be affecting something?

Any help here would be GREATLY appreciated.

Same here, stuck at block 139636 out of sync, lot of nodes but connections falls to 0 everytime.

Can someone explain this to me? This ANN thread says the maximum supply will be 850 million coins but coinmarketcap has this information
Circulating Supply
34,852,678,281 EMB
Total Supply
34,854,678,281 EMB

Am I missing something?

Does no one read past post when interested in a coin, the amount of times this question been asked. Its wrong the original developers wanted max supply 850mil with 720% stake but there was an error in the source code with no max limit and staking 7200% per year but this is going to be fixed starting 1nov over 3days back down to 720% with the new developers from a few weeks ago who seem very good, fast and responsive with development. So got a good feeling for the future of this coin with committed developer's

i think people are dumping because no one is getting stake rewards, seems like its bugged.. got people waiting over a week with 10+mil staking, sooner or later the paranoia hits and they sell before they get killed waiting for a reward that will never show

Took me 11 days to stake 1 Million.  I am now staking 7.5 Million, been 5 days.  Not worried.  Yet.

I am wondering one thing though - because of the long stake times, what is going to happen when they transition down from 7200% to 720%?  Are they going to force all wallets to stake so we don't miss out?  I'd hate to go like 2 weeks towards the end and then not get a stake based on 7200%.

People should look on richlist for rewards, if you want big return you have to put in a substantial investment in or you won't stake as pos difficulty is High. Need at least 10mil coins, maybe one every few days, I stake frequently but I have over 100mil. Your not losing out if it takes longer to stake as you earn 20% for every full day staking average, but remember every stake u get is divided into 2 inputs for next stake. So your stakes take longer and longer unless you use coin management and send coins to yourself as you don't want too many inputs as your own queue will be too long.

Why price is dumping so hard right now?
Any bad news? Or just whale manipulating prices to buy the dips?)

got my 2nd stake reward from 3 million coins. roughly you have to wait around 9 days for rewards. Just installed the new wallet. Synced up right away.

This coin stakes well with hardly any coins as well.   I stake a lot of coins and trade dozens so not much is in each one.  I got a stake with only 35K.

Wait until people realize that high POS coins are actually pyramid schemes. Get in early > stake high amounts > depend on new buyers because of high stake amounts. The only reason coins like ember exist are for the sake of staking, there's no real usage. That's a perversion of the original idea for staking.
