Don't know how to put this but I'll try. So lets say your fav club is about playing against a tougher club which on paper they're far better than your club but in your inner most mind you want your club to win therefore, when it comes to placing a bet, which club will you go far. Will you risk losing the bet to back your team winning that match, when you know the chances of them succeeding are almost impossible but since it's football anything is possible or will you bet against you club winning that match but while the match is ongoing you'll be routing for your club to win (in other words routing for yourself to lose your bet)?

How do you balance the emotion of wanting your club to win but not ready to lose your bet in the toughest of games.

That's easy don't bet at all, just support and cheer for the team, you don't have to pressure yourself to bet on your favorite team and if you are betting, you should be comfortable at your losses, betting and cheering for your team are two different things, if you are betting it's not because it's your favorite team it's because it has a good chance of winning.

This is interesting. I've been in this situation several times. And, honestly, you've put it quite well.  Wink

Let me put it this way. Sometimes, gambling to me is purely money matters. But there are times when I cannot just exchange money for pride or for the intense cheering and support that I will give to my favorite team or player. There are games, for example, in which the nation's pride is at stake like when Manny Pacquiao is the one inside the ring, or when TNC (Dota 2) is battling against Team Liquid at The International 2019. Or my alma mater is playing against another university's team in a collegiate match.

In situations like this, I'd rather not bet at all or if I do, I will bet an amount I could not care if lost; rather than torn between your favorite team or player and money.

If your a emotional gambler then you will more then likely lose all your funds much quicker
While its fun to make a wager with your heart the truth remains that its always better to bet with your mind then your heart
Betting against your own team might be looked down on but if there is money involved who cares about emotions

This is the feeling when your team is one of the smallest club in a league and you are emotionally invested in them. With regards to betting, it's a case to case basis I guess. If the odds are that good, putting a small bet on your team as the heavy underdog would not be that bad.

Practically speaking, if I want to gain money, I would bet for the team who's most likely to win although it's against whom I'm actually rooting. But if you really want to bet for your team, then go. But with only small amount 'cause you said it yourself already that there's only a low chance of them winning against their opponent.
I know it's really hard to bet the opponent of your team, so you can still decide whether to place a bet or not. But you can still root for your team even if you bet on the other team.

My favourite club against stronger club which mean the odds of the club will higher than the opponents because against strong teams and usually most of sportbooks will provide such as it and actually i have done to facing this situations through soccer match and sometimes it's working well and if all of it about my habit bets i think my strategy a bit change that i would bets for different option such as total of goals because it's risky if you still pushing to bets for your club although you want your club became the winner of the match

I also experienced this before on eSports scene, especially in Dota 2 but I believe this is also can be experienced in all sports especially when gambling.
My experienced with this, especially if you are a fanboy you are really confident with your team for sure, like even the odds are on favor on the enemy but you are still over confident.
The best thing to do with this emotion is, do "SMALL BET", why small bet?
  • RISKY
  • Odds are favour on the enemy, so when you bet on your team you have huge rewards.
  • Just show your support on your team, by betting a small amount, you can already show your support and can enjoy watching the game.

I'm not a huge fan of any team thus I don't have any favorites. When I want to place a bet, I will somehow depend on the odds or on what I see or feel about the competing teams or my gut feeling. With that, there are no emotions involved so that either win or lose, there will be no negative feelings. I mean, if I lose, I will feel sad but will get over it easily because I bet objectively rather than subjectively.

In all aspects of life, whether gambling or other things, I think it's helpful to be objective and not let our emotions take over so that we can come up on a better decision.

Every people will have a way to balance their emotion, but they have the different level to do that. Some people cannot control the feeling in a long time because if they see their club team don't have a chance to win, they will piss off and some of them will leave the match. I don't want to lose the fund so I will not place too much money for the bet.

But no matter what, if we are in a gambling game, we should have the power to control for ourselves, so we don't lose all the money. I don't want to risk the funds too big if I see I don't have a chance to win.

on gambling its a rule that you must only bet what you can afford to loose  .  risk small if you a small time gambler but risk big if you are a big time gambler  .

Some people cannot control the feeling in a long time because if they see their club team don't have a chance to win, they will piss off and some of them will leave the match.
thats true and i witnessed some of my friends do this  .  some didnt even bother to watch the begining of the match just to avoid being emotional   but they shouldnt think negative because the match didnt ended yet  . there is  still a chance that thier fav team can win  .

I don't want to risk the funds too big if I see I don't have a chance to win.
so your only betting small  ? or you dont bet at all ? if your team is weak against the opossing team , you can go for the opposing team if you really wanted to win  .

In this scenario, I would rather not to bet/risk my money than to bet against my will since it's difficult to bet against your favorite team for me. If ever I bet on the tougher team and they won, I'll be happy as a gambler but sad as a fan. On the other hand, if I bet on a team which is my favorite who's my favorit yet I know has less chances of winning then it has no difference in throwing your money. There's nothing wrong in not placing bet for every game you are interested in.

I think you shouldn't mix fun and investment money.

If you are having fun betting in favor, or even against your team, that's ok. Take some money, mark it as fun money, and spend it there in gambling. If you make more money, buy some beers.

But do not gamble trying to make money. And if you do, do not bet in the team you love. This could have disastrous consequences, imo. Gamble money that you ca afford to lose, and have fun doing so.

It is plain and simple, I just won't bet so that I can cheer for my favorite team without worrying of losing money if the stronger team win.
Already done this thing where if I'm heavily a fan a certain team and I do compare the winning chances where I do skip out on make any bets and with that
you will able to enjoy the essence or thrill while your favorite team is playing without any doubts or getting disturbed that you had make a bet with them.

Body and emotion will normally react if you do know that you do have a bet behind that tends to lose 100% in the end which will get the thrill on watching the game because you already being stressed out.

From my view, it is our inbuilt emotion to support our nation's team or our team. When it comes to gambling I don't get into any kind of emotion, because once the teams makes a winning we don't get anything beneficial. If we had a friend who supports the opponent, we can show off that we won defeating yours.

I just look for the winning chances, so that I'll get something out of it. This is how almost everyone will think, very few could go emotional for some reasons of getting much attached to the team.

Most certainly when it comes to sports, we always wanted our favorite team to win but when it comes to betting, rationality must take the lead.  We must separate favoritism and gambling instinct/choices.  It is kinda hard but to those who favors logical thinking than being fanatic will surely get their bet straight to what the facts they have in that game.

Supporting your favorite team helps the boost the confidence level of the team and this might help them give their best to play and win. That is why even an underdog team goes against a highly favorite team to win the match, if the game will be played in their home town, that's a different story for the favorite team because they are playing against the crowd. Imagine the distractions the crowd will give to the visitors. furthermore, if you are a die hard fan, no matter what happens to your club, you will stick with them and will not join the band wagon team.

I'd still bet for the team that's favored to win even if I detest the team that's favored and my favorite one's on the underdog side unless the odds happened to be extremely good. I've made plenty of profit from betting on underdogs when odds are extremely tilted towards one side, and that might just be the thing that moves me to bet on my personal favorite team in this instance. It's normal to be emotional with activites like these, but I typically let reality override whatever bias I have in most cases.

I believe that people should separate things:

1- like something

2- make money

They are two different things.

If you know that the team you like has no chance of winning then you should not bet on the team you like, and this is not wrong or bad. People are in the betting world to make money, and it's your precious money that you are betting on, in the club you like, the players get salaries, the coaches get salaries... they are all making money and making their living. And you must also do the same thing (make money).

It will vary because each people do have different level or ways on how they do tolerate their emotions when it comes to decision making.
Some will neglect the reality of winning chance and some will have changes in mind later on if they are really aiming to win the bet.
We arent dumb enough not to choose on whose clearly the winner when we do just base up on stat but as said anything can happen on we least expected.
On my side, decisions will vary from time to time since it will also tagged up according to my mood.  Cheesy
