OP, let's start with what is a referral program? Attracting people for all sorts of sales, earnings, any monetary interest.
The forum does not declare itself as a place to earn money, does it?
This is the place to learn about cryptocurrencies. I do not think that by making a Google request about bitcoin, a person will miss the link to this forum. Everything related to referrals is only interest related to earnings. I regularly catch alternative accounts, I am sure that the number of these accounts when using the referral system will increase several times.
People do not need to be forced to love something, interest, and enthusiasm for bitcoin should come independently, from their own conclusions.

Organizing a contest of bringing referrals to the forum and giving monetary reward to people with most referrals.
I can think of 56 different ways to abuse this.
That can actually be a good thing. If the admin decides to implement this, message the mod those 56 possible abuses and he will find out the security measures to avoid them.
Are you going to keep asking admin to install anti-cheating strategies on every revealed situation because LoyceV's 56 conceivable ways to defeat this system may differ from my own 60 ways of cheating the system? The truth is that those who wish to study or read about projects must make their way here one way or another without anyone telling them to; in fact, the majority of us found our way here without a referral or word from friends.

There's a good possibility that anyone interested in cryptocurrency will do some research on Satoshi, which will eventually bring you to Bitcointalk, where he once discussed bitcoin development.

There are ways people try to game the referral system in all sites. No system is 100 ℅ perfect. But many great companies have grown with the power of referral like PayPal.
We already have a large number of inactive accounts; out of the 3 million or so accounts created on Bitcoin, the active accounts number fewer than 500k (saw that stats somewhere can't remember.). The referral problem would be far worse than bounty spam..

Bitcoin = Financial freedom
I will talk about this can be implemented but first let me mention the benefits.

Those who are already members here have good interest in the field of crypto and majority has invested. Now, these people might be in contact of many other people who are also interested in this field and this they can invite such users here. When such users having own crypto related experiences come here, they will share it and it will result in further organic growth and expansion of the forum. The chain will continue.

Now here are some ways this can be implemented :
1) Organizing a contest of bringing referrals to the forum and giving monetary reward to people with most referrals.
2) Another option is to give membership upgrades instead of monetary reward.

Same way it can implemented in different ways on the forum.

Now what do you think about this feature? Is it needed? Can it do any good to the bitcointalk forum?

Word of mouth is one of the best strategy to bring traffic but when we are doing it for some kind of rewards then it will end up in abusing, and the forum is not charging any fee for registering so even with the growth the forum isn't going to make money and you know people who really get interested will reasearch and end up finding this forum or everyone else are not really needed here.

I don't get why we need more forum users at the first place. Why do we need to call people to discuss cryptocurrency here? Don't you think people will find this place if they think they need a place to discuss cryptocurrency? I'm in this forum because I need a place to talk about crypto. I would like to rephrase a sentence, "Bitcoin doesn't need us, we need bitcoin." and so does the forum.

I have discussed the forum with a few people, but none really came and spent a lot of time here. Unless you are a real BTC enthusiast it's going to be a tough sell to get people to spend time here. I don't know how you can really encourage the casual people to spend time.

Not that it's a bad place to be, but there are a lot of other places out there on the internet do discuss things and coming to a dedicated place to talk about one
thing is becoming more and more rare.

Yes, you can come here and talk about BTC, or you can go to driveaccord.net to talk about your Honda Accord. But if you go to reddit (just picking on them, not the best example) you can talk about about BTC, then hop over to /r/Honda/ and ask a question about your Accord, and then over to /r/Appliances to talk about your dishwasher.

The only people I suspect invite their friends (and family, too) to register on bitcointalk are those who want to use it as a place of employment, and that's exactly what we need less of.
I've never discussed Bitcointalk with anyone IRL (except for my wife, no secrets there). For privacy, I wouldn't like it if someone can link my online identity to meatspace, and the best way to do that is not to talk about it.

give membership upgrades
I'm still waiting for my reporter badge, and my next Rank ("Legend") for 2000+ Activity/Merit. Maybe when hell freezes over, right after KYC and the new forum software.

People come with their own interests and not to make their friend happy. The latter can happen but then they will leave the forum very soon too.

I dont think the number of such users in many countries are high that one can just walk in their neighborhood and ask "who loves bitcoin" and get a overwhelming "Me, Me, Me" response, rather "its a scam!", "crypto is fake" responses.

Dont want to sound racist, but there are certain populations that bring in all their family members to make accounts as many as possible just to defraud campaigns. Have you tried looking to the "Reputation" section for alt accounts. Who is going to take the time to verify every such sign up?

2) Another option is to give membership upgrades instead of monetary reward.
Any type of incentivization should be avoided. This forum already gets a lot of traffic and this is not needed.

Can it do any good to the bitcointalk forum?
It might have, if we had an army of workers alloted to scanning every sign up and that too several years back to start with. A lot of forum drama would not be existing then.

Need PR/CMC & CG? TG @The_Cryptovator
Why do you feel this forum hasn't enough users? The way you are talking means you are encouraging spam here. Nothing else. The forum doesn't really need to invite users, rather users need to join the forum to learn about cryptocurrency. Why the forum should pay to bring fake users? A lot of users join every day and moderators become tired to prevent spam. We need a potential member here who will contribute to the forum. We need real learners here who will learn about cryptocurrency. We don't need Bots and spam here.

By the way, the admin will never implement the so-called referral system.

1) Organizing a contest of bringing referrals to the forum and giving monetary reward to people with most referrals.
The admins are quite offensive about referrals and the forum gives restricted areas to use referral links (Profile page, signature space). Additionally, the forum attracts so many bounty hunters already and they are toxic elements of the forum with full of spam from those low valued members.

It is not make sense if you attract more people to join here and they contribute very little with their posts or projects.

Merit system works very well so far and it marks good members with earned merits. You can check the leader boad of merit earners with BPIP.
This page includes airdropped merit too.

There was suggestion to create a new rank above Legendary but it is not approved by the head admins.

I'm sure if any number (n) of us started putting our brains to work, we could come up with n^56 number of ways such a contest could be abused, and the fact is it would only take a couple in practice to make it all go to shit right away.

Bitcointalk doesn't exactly need more members just for the sake of having them.  What it needs are fewer non-contributing bounty hunters, spammers, and various idiots who are here for reasons other than to discuss bitcoin.  I'm sure as hell not going to start proselytizing to my friends in real life about what an awesome forum I belong to and that they should join.  If someone's got a genuine interest in bitcoin and wants a place to read and/or post about it, they'll find this forum.

The only people I suspect invite their friends (and family, too) to register on bitcointalk are those who want to use it as a place of employment, and that's exactly what we need less of.  Bad idea, OP.

Hopefully not under no circumstance , this will just means we will getting overrolled from Cheaters and Fake Accounts just to get an Account his referrals !
I will guess if we get this that the most of the new Users dosnt write anything , it maybe brings new registrations but i would say its better we get
real new Users that comes from alone to the Forum as they just get in here for ref somebody in here .
As the most in here has written my answer is also no to that suggestion.

The forum does not complete any kind of KYC on its users. This means it is impossible to determine if someone creating an account really belongs to a distinctly different person than making the referral. It also means if someone refers someone, it is possible the person being referred already has a forum account, either one they use regularly or one that has gone unused for years.

Now what do you think about this feature? Is it needed? Can it do any good to the bitcointalk forum?
No, I do not think this is necessary or will it be beneficial.
Not necessary because, the forum already has a lot of members and a lot of them who joined end up not staying for long or making a single post. Getting people to join is not an issue, getting them to stay and participate constructively is.
It would not be beneficial, cause it would simply be abused and attract more zero post brand-new accounts.

My experience in introducing people to this forum is usually met with confusion about the layout and how it works, navigating through and trouble keeping to the rules. I would rather not have to convince someone t join except they already have interest.

It is not urgent. And you are right thag those who have interest in crypto will probably join. But different people can be motivated by different ways. We are having good number of users should not mean that we stop thinking about future growth.
If you care about the future of the bitcointalk forum and its user base, then you just need to encourage people to care about the quality of their posts and also abide by the rules. This is the best way to keep the forum exist as the biggest bitcoin forum ever. Also you can spread the word regarding the existence of this forum on your social media by supporting the Bitcointalk Youtube channel - what would you like to see? and so forth. I still think the program you suggest will only cause a lot of chaos compared to the benefit.

You will also need to edit your quote.  Smiley

I think the bitcointalk forum doesn't need a referral system because someone who is interested in bitcoin or crypto will surely find a way to reach this forum sooner or later. What's more, currently the bitcointalk forum has at least 3411725 (latest user ID) registered users although some of them have become inactive, archived or otherwise. If I may ask, is there anything urgent to encourage forum admin to start thinking about this referral program?

Did you just include organiszing a contest, monetary rewards and organic growth in the same post.

Live example of why it will just promote fake accounts, spammers and end up being a complete fail is cryptotalk forum. Check it out and see if it's doing much better than Bitcointalk right now in terms of content quality.

Those who have genuine interest will join, just like you did join the Bitcoin movement without it being advertised to you. There is no need to force things around  Wink

Another beginning of account farming. People opening multiple accounts for oneself and referring oneself for more rewards. Spammers will see this more enjoyable. It would be an enjoyable bounties for spammers.

2) Another option is to give membership upgrades instead of monetary reward.
Membership upgrade not worked for. Having quality posts is the reward for membership upgrade.
