we can have both workign at the same time, bittorrent and it's DHT were the main inspirations for IPFS, so it's not that different. I'll add that to the answer
Thinking more about flixxo. Why would anyone pay to watch videos on flixxo when they can watch them for free at youtube? Unless you have premium movies like netflix?
You don't need to pay - you can just watch advertisements to get FLIXX tokens.
So, a user should start by watching ads? Accumulate flixx then watch other contents? But I thought the idea is to build a large user base first before attracting advertisers?
In the beginning, I assume there wont be any ads?
There's going to be a couple small chicken/egg problems here as they're trying to build a whole ecosystem of content / consumers / advertisers.  So obviously at first there may be issues with little to no ads, or little to no seeders, etc.. the team is working on solutions there.. for example they are doing things like setting up seeding servers to make sure content at least has a couple servers providing it until the network can fully establish.  Of the 3 "parties" involved (publishers/consumers/advertisers), ads are the easiest to get as they can easily be integrated via many platforms (or in this case, AdEx or similar) so there really isn't a shortage of options there.

this basically means, we launch in may and get a lot of users due to working technology. When the other platforms catch up and make IPFS really usuable on a grand scale, Flixxo can adapt and grow even bigger.

it was a bit useless to set up a date and time that precise if they're gonna answer until Sunday. I thought they would set up one or two hours and answer to all the questions at once, eventually replying to follow-up questions.

Good to see that some competitor try to enter this market , it means that this is necessarly a great idea! Hope flixxo will have a very decent platform on May!
funny thing is their community will act like they are the best lol but its like saying ford is better then bmw... in reality they do best only at what they know. And Competition is healthy, but in crypto we all have the same goal.

It is clear that the main goal is to make money, but it will be difficult to do this without project support! By the way, the price may be low for a long time, but one day it can dramatically go up!

Good point - any project like this lives and dies by its community of creators, consumers and (while many try to avoid them) advertisers. We believe that what makes Flixxo special is that it provides a superior service for all three.

LBRY has no ads, Theta has no ads. Both work on their own consensus protocol. Theta will take a long time. LBRY is already live but its far from being userfriendly or fast for average joe. Lack of ads leads to people needing to pay with LBRY tokens -> buy them from exchanges or mine LBRY. Thats why it's still very small, even though its around a failry long time (crypto related). Viuly has a similar setup as Flixxo, but not much can be dfound out about their content distribution, looks kinds centralized. Their Token distribution also shows a lack of marketing possibilities and development funds. This will play out in the long term. I didnt look much into stream. To be fair, there are competitors and new startups everyday. I prefer the team to work on the platform rather then compare every project to each other. Flixxo obviously has its own strengths and if they play it out, they will be able to target a whole other target audience then LBRY for example. LBRY targets youtube viewers. But youtube viewers will never actively buy LBRY tokens to watch content.

Exactly - ultimately, no viewer will want to move from a free platform to a paid one without a *significant* increase in utility. It's difficult to be more convenient than youtube, so any system you have to buy into is at a disadvantage.

Flixxo, however, enables viewers to contribute to the internal economy without spending a penny, but offers them the option at a low cost.

they do not even have a whitepaper, team has no experience in the field and they have no alpha so it is very hard to compare them to Flixxo. They also have no media presence other than that article.
Who/what are you talking about?

Have you been able to look at ways to ensure that if I download a video in order to seed it that there won’t be any malicious content in it?

I had the same thoughts. Apple n Google n FB, etc had many competitors too but they came up tops. Competition is healthy if the team has the right people to make it tops. Be the dominant disruptor of Youtube Smiley

When used on the Flixxo platform, it is the currency for buying and selling both content and ads, and is also used to pay those who host content.
