This will not change things for the better... Not all newbies are spamers. And they can spam now as they did before.

How will a newbie create an announcement post, a serious one, without pictures in it???

 Shocked

We need to mention @hilariousetc for his/her contribution and the impact he/she put up on the theymos for initiating this new requirement.

Sorry, but did you just assume I was one of only two genders? I use the pronouns ve/vis. #triggered.

Wow so this thread caused why so many members to make posts everywhere. Yes, I also member who is still new at here. But I can appreciate the decision because this will make this forum to be better. we should not complain, marking if "this is not fair, if I  register 1 or 2 years ago maybe my rank will be at least full member", stop complain like that. What we have to do now for newbie ranks is to follow the rules (if you still wanna get some money for bounty i know that and many people want it too) or just leave it so simple dude.

oh sad my account ranked down to newbie but my posts was not a newbie poster at all, newbie need now at least 1 merit to rank up to jr. member and I think my account now should have 1 merit can somebody check my posts to be a jr. member.

Here you go. I've gone through your post history. You're posts aren't perfect, but it's pretty clear you're a real account with a long post history of on-topic comments.
Definitely deserve to be a jr. member  Smiley
As I said here, very few people pay attention to the history of other people's posts as you are doing, and I think you can see that a lot of people have made great efforts and contributions but a very funny thing is that they do not get merit while they deserve it. So, I think we need more people like you, care about and pay attention to what others say, it will contribute to creating a healthy community, instead of neglecting the dedication of others, perhaps forgotten my contribution Smiley, I'm kidding!
I speak english very badly, hope people understand Smiley

Alright, you're getting the last one of my merits. Not for this post, but you have decent posts in general.

I skimmed through the last 10 pages of your post history.  I didn't spot any posts in a language I can understand that were discussing Bitcoin.  Everything was altcoins, airdrops, bounties and ways to make money.  Contrary to popular belief, that's not what this forum is for.  If some of your posts in the local boards were discussion Bitcoin, then you need to complain to the people in your local boards.  In all 10 pages I read, I couldn't find a single thing I could award a merit for.  Clearly you can speak English well, so perhaps try getting involved in more discussions where the topic is about Bitcoin and then you might be able to contribute something people deem valuable.

Thank you, through your post I have been more oriented with future posts. Previously, I only knew the forum through the work as airdrop or bounty, because my English is not good, so I'm afraid to read. Maybe, I should change the way I work now.

Yeah this new rules is good like forum could avoid farming accounts when forum implemented merit system I've noticed that the population of jr. members is getting bigger now that this rules was implemented shitposters will reduced due of newbies can't apply now on signature campaigns. I will post more quality posts to get merits and I'm looking forward on that.

The new rule is pretty crazy but I like it. Over the past few months, the number of Newbie and Jr members has increased tremendously, garbage everywhere!
Hope this can ease the pressure on this forum and clean it up a bit.

I agree with you. Newbie and Jr members increased tremendously. This might because of the members doing some multiple accounts for their altcoin bounties. Anyway, how do you define a good post from a garbage post?
Can you give me some tips so I can improve mine?

Earlier I was not so interested to get the merit since I am here to learn and try to give something valuable to the forum. I thought and took that, not all post get visibility to the merit sender. And that may happen of not getting merit. But today when I have found that my profile is demoted, I got really disappointed thinking that was my all posts invaluable??? However, showing respect to the forum laws, I hope I will gain my deserving merit to promote my rank.

Thanks.

Hey @Delphinus

I think all we can do now is beg for merit...  Undecided

Don't do that mate .. You should rest from bounty project for a while and just create some post with high-quality stuff, and then the merit will be coming to you for sure.

This is certainly an excellent solution for fighting with spammers and bots, but it also hit users who do not deal with spam and do not have merits. Those like me. In this regard, I had to buy a copper member in order to wear a signature. I do not deal with spam (except bounty reports  Shocked), I write meaningful posts, but I did not get merit for it, apparently my posts are useless.

It's good to see hilariousandco suggestion of adding a merit requirement for Junior Members has finally been put in place. Thanks theymos! Smiley
Although, I might have gone with a more drastic measure of up to 5 merits required to rank-up.

I'm curious to see what will the spammers & incompetent bounty campaign managers do from now on. I think we should see a sharp reduction in the number of spam posts created and maybe regain control over Bitcoin & Altcoin Discussion.

@theymos, I hope you do realize that you just fixed just part of the problem here. Another bigger issues is campaign managers that are financing the spam & clogging up BCT.

Take a look at this poor guy: https://bitcointalksearch.org/user/adekogbe-1556229 he has 3 merits and he's spamming the forums as usual. There are a lot of people here with higher ranks that are spamming the forum on a day to day basis.

I replied to one of this meta threads here: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.45819616

How about this Full Member spamming the crap out of Forum?
https://bitcointalksearch.org/user/zulfi125-1093458

This is just an example there are many like such who got merits because they were on the platform before the merit system introduced. And having those big ranks what they do is just spamming and enjoying bigger rewards than spamming Jr members.

Some steps needed from Bounty Managers too, if they stop accepting Users that did not earned a single merit in past 1 Month then these Full member will also contribute or leave the forum.
I suggested to decay default merits earlier in my post "https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/let-decay-default-merits-3193801" for high ranking members that are still spamming.
Idea was quashed at that time by saying that Theymos will never demote anybody.
But Now I see Theymos actually demoted unmerited Jr. Member so I think this can be implemented for other ranks too.

Honestly, I hope to become Jr. Member needed 5 Merit Points. And also, in near future I hope there's "KYC" on bounty sub forum  Wink

What do you think if you are a not good English speaker? With KYC I completely agree, because I only have this account. From now on I have to find out how to write articles and avoid star to be counted as "spam"

Why does the Jr. Member need 1 merit? This will not stop the farm and it is also economically profitable and pays off by any campaign. You can make 3 or 5 merits per Jr. Member.
I've seen reports where a person owned 400-500 Jr. Member Undecided

I think 3 or 5 merrit is too much for beginnings on bitcointalk. At the beginning, I think you are easily obtained Merrit Or Active. And now, with us are Newbies or JR. It's not easily obtained to get Merrit. So. 1 merrit for JR, that's enough to remove scammer and cheater out of our community. Thanks

Crocus mainly posts in Spam Megathreads, and has a fake Bitcoin address in his profile. That's not someone who I would consider worthy of ranking up.

I didn't spot the fake Bitcoin address (to bad) but I don't think the "megathreads" should be a factor. That's my personal opinion of course. Not everyone is fluent in English and/or educated enough to write quality pieces. In this case it's a promotion from newbie (which should be new users) to jr. member (still new users).

Shouldn't expectations be aligned to the maturity level of the account? If newbie accounts post frequently and on-topic, I don't expect that much more from them. For legendary accounts, I do have higher standards before meriting them because my expectations are higher.

We might view this differently, but I am trying to keep new people from being discouraged if they do post on-topic responses in several threads. The large threads are just easier to get started with, because they often have more generic subjects.

In general, I support, both in terms of combating spam on the forum, and what happens in the signatures. I have often seen how farms enter the signature, when in a short time 10 Jr. Member are registered. Perhaps we will wait for the fate in the relationship and the account Member (members-farms also quite a lot)
