I have no doubts that Ethereum will get the second place back as soon as the devs will release Ethereum 2.0 update, that should happen within three upcoming weeks so lets support Ethereum and make Ripple leave the second spot.

I think the ico scam here and there is one major factor that is affecting etheruem. Soon when market returns with its usual moves, etheruem will get back to number two spot. And will even do better when the scam reduces. Crypto enthusiasts have to look for measures to discourage ICO scam. Especially by helping newbies who are eager to run into buying shit coins are joining a scamming bounty.

IMHO, considering its potentials and capability, ethereum so far is still underachieved. But it is very very possible that pretty soon it would make it into the biggest two.

For now, Ethereum still hasn't shown its strength and stayed in 3rd place, XRP in my opinion, unique coins from prices are not high but can rival Ethereum because the marketcap is bigger. I am very sure that Ethereum will again be the top coin alternative with undoubted quality, we wait and observe its development.

I doubt if they can regain their second position but they are still in a battle, the hard fork is their main weapon but after if they failed to regain it, they will have nothing but be in the third position throughout the whole year, Ripple is getting better this year.

It's been a tussle, but it seems that ever since xrp got to that second position again, it has been maintaining it. The only difference I see now is that, the gap between the two is not that much, which then makes it possible for ETH to be take over take over the position again.
It is good we are now seeing some improvements in the market now, which is the most desired, instead of being much concerned about the tussle.

People are greedy and want 2 new fork coins thats all.
Ethereum´s update will not help Ethereum to be better than EOS, we need to wait little bit longer, but how long? When Ethereum 2.0 come? Maybe next year?
The hard fork that will happen during the next days is not a contentious hard fork, so far it seems everyone is agreeing that the current hard fork is needed so the chance of two coins appearing are low, obviously this could always change but so far I see no indication that will be the case, so you are wrong on your assumption, investors are not getting ethereum to get this second coin, they are just very optimistic about the future of ethereum with this new upgrade. Ethereum´s update will not help Ethereum to be better than EOS, we need to wait little bit longer, but how long? When Ethereum 2.0 come? Maybe next year?

As I write, Ethereum already dish XRP to 3rd place. I couldn't understand why XRP will even be above Monero and other good altcoins. XRP is good for it holders and might as well be a bomb waiting for a set time to bomb it holders, anyway lets threat XRP with caution we never can tell when the development team are coming to dilute the market.
Why does everybody pay so much attention to the place in the rating of one or the other cryptocurrency? I think this ratio's secondary. Innovativeness, regular updates, and idea are the most important features of projects!

The hardfork is a great factor to achieve a new feat in the year but I expect the price movement to be in the value of bitcoin, if it can climb to 1eth= 0.1btc (a considerable price). There are also fewer ICOs now, if bitcoin stabilizes for some weeks it could improve funding of ICOs, which could increase the demand for eth and volume trade.

Ethereum and Ripple are two best altcoins so far. They always compete to reach the second position especially on the coinmarketcap. However, it is not only about the position but more about how their value and rate in this recent market. We can see the progress and yeah, Eth is increasing.
