I think the chances of this can occur is very small, because of the bitcoin is itself a reference to all the altcoin. If this reference could be rivaled by another altcoin like the ethereum seem to be making the price of altcoin is not under control.
I think it will not happen but If it does it would be financially fantastic for me.

it's all possible to see the current development of Ethereum.
It will not happen because Ethereum has larger supply than bitcoin and bitcoin is so far because it has a solid foundation and already tested by time and struggles that it overcome.
This is a joke, and it's healthy that people still crack jokes, without them we would be lost, especially with btc going down again.
I doubt that ETH will be able to overtake BTC! I think its the limit is half the price BTC!
I hardly believe that Bitcoin someone will be able to outrun - after all, the first coin. Of course, the ethereum has very good chances to be docked securely to the crypto-olimp, but in second place. Although, who knows, maybe Buterin will decide the issue with the cost and duration of the transactions and will win on Bitcoin.

ETH can never compete with BTC as long as they are both PoW.
If ETH's fork to Casper leads to a successful PoS implementation than users will realise how profitable that can be.

I'm not quite sure about that many people say that bitcoin will make a major comeback. Bitcoin will gain much higher price value. But ethereum is just behind so maybe it will someday. Future is unpredictable.

I felt they offer different path. Bitcoin fast becoming storage of value. Erhereum becoming the defacto blockchain.
Bitcoin is status as big daddy of cryptocurrency is never gonna be replaced.
Ethereum facing big challenges this year, scalability issue will be big hurdle. Yet it will depends of other competing blockchain like Neo, cardano, Eos, eaves, etc..
btc has revealed its weaknesses, in my opinion 2018 will be the year of eth and neo

ETH is the basis for 90% of altcoins, very popular too and can be considered as the top coin, but i do not think it's gonna pass bitcoin this year. However i think it's possible to happen that ETH become the number one and surpass the bitcoin
It can happen if the developers of Ethereum network can fix their problems with its scalability. However, news is still coming up that these problems are emerging. Yesterday, two exchanges reported ethereum withdrawal issues that were affecting users. This growth has come at a price in the form of slow or backlogged transactions, causing fees to reach record highs and ICO participants to miss out on token sales after failing to push their ether through in time
nothing is here which can take place of btc in ranking because btc is a begining of crypto world and in market cap what a beauty when we see btc on the 1st.
Ethereum and Bitcoin are two most popular cryptocurrencies both have potential of growth in the market but I don't eth will overtake btc, J don't say it's impossible but not sooner.
I'm not saying that it is impossible, but what I think is that it will not happen soon. Bitcoin is still the leading cryptocurrency and is still increasing its value very rapidly hence I think that it will remain on top for quite some time.
In the next year ETH will overtake BTC as the number 1 cryptocurrency. I would unload your bitcoin while you still can.
I think Eth has a lot of potential in its tank to increase; however, I don't see it overtaking Bitcoin this year, or in the few years to come. Although Ethereum has shown great endurance and strength in the way it has grown and from the manner it was able to withstood market movements that caused the down fall of many other altcoins, this solidified its standing in the market as one of the most reliable coins. I think that while its gaining more experience under its belt it has the potential to continually increase, but take in mind that bitcoin has more of than experience and endurance being that it is the pioneer.
I don't think it will overtake it, ETH compliments BTC, i prefer trading with ETH due to transaction fees and times being way smaller, when dealing with other Altcoins ETH is my preference, for payments and reali life goods BTC is my mean of payment, i dont know if you got my point
yeah, i think that a few years later ethereum will overtake bitcoin. i belive that ethereum with smart contract will make it strong and it can be the best choice to invest
