You will not get any new coins, it is just an update of the ethereum platform. It is different from the bitcoin / BCH fork where you get extra coins. With ethereum you will get nothing, just what you already have

That's partially not true... Of course you won't get new coins for the Constantinople fork of Ethereum because that I think happens to be only just an update to the Ethereum blockchain, but there's another Ethereum hard fork i.e. Ethereum Classic Vision scheduled for Jan 11th as announced here: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/ann-etcv-ethereum-classic-vision-fork-31-of-ethereum-5089443  which will give current ETH holders in a ratio 3:1 of ETCV tokens.

Thats what I understand too. It was only an update and no new coins to be given. Though this ETCV hard fork I think is another hardfork not connected to constantinople. Anyway, if we receive an ETCV thats fine, but I am looking forward that this hardfork will somehow drive an Eth price to a few hundreths maybe.

I think its not an update from the word itself "hard-fork" means that they are going to create a new coin from ethereum and called it as " constantiople " not sure about the name of new hard fork of ethereum but I think it is .
Obviously, It is the good news for crypto environment so Ethereum block size is increase in future. But I did not see this news in crypto platform. So If you clarify in exact date and name in Ethereum hardfork it should be useful to everyone.
This is a fork that should have been in the past but according to mistakes it was extended. I was expecting 16th of January which as far as I know, would not create any altcoin. But few hours ago I saw ETCV bounty which will be finished 11 January. When I look at them, it is possible to find information about both but I still do not understand which one is right.  Huh
If there is a hard fork on January 11, for example, I have 10 ethereum, how many comparisons will I receive ETCV, is it 1: 1 or 1:10 I don't know ??

https://www.investinblockchain.com/ethereum-constantinople-january-2019/

according to the article I found, that in January 2019 Ethereum will not issue tokens or new coins for ETH owners, that means you will not get any coins
and additional information, that the Event Ethereum in January 2019 is an upgrade to constatinople, which is the backbone of the ethereum blockchain network

It is not basically an update. It is an upgrade where the whole blockchain is changed, the code is changed, everything you can see in the ethereum is changed.
How will it affect the current ETH holders?
Since it's an upgrade, it means positive for the holders.
You'll be holding a new coin and I believe the price will rise because it has been expected that this upgrade in development will solve
the problem in the past. So, if you are here for the tech and to make profit, better start buying now, price will likely to skyrocket soon.

In my own understanding, pertaining this Hardfork of ETH tagged Constantinople, its more of an upgrade, not necessarily creation of a new cryptocurrency. I think it won't be like the usual Hardfork many have in mind, as I got the Intel from some trusted sources. Let's see how it goes anyway.
Ahh, so it's like a system update and the name of that update is Constantinople. At first  I thought it was a new coin to be launched.
Anyway, I wonder why other members say that it will be a bullish run for Eth after the upgrade? Is it because many will get interested on it and attract more investors? Or anything else?
Well, in january 11, there will be one that will going to happen and it will be a new coin, Ethereum Classic Vision in which, when you store and hold ETH in your (PERSONAL) wallet, you will get x3 of ETCV.
So hardfork is the real deal? My only question is if all eth holders will receive etcv and unfortunately the wallet they're using not yet support that coin, then where etcv will be stored now?

Honestly, after reading all the posts above, I'm still a little bit confused. I don't know what to believe in. In an upgrade or hardfork? Or both? (Maybe better to search it by my own later Grin)

Ethereum Hard fork (Constantinople) talks has been since October, but rumors have it that it will happen January 2019.  It's an improvement or upgrade in ETH architecture and not necessarily birthing a new coin, in my own opinion. Let's wait for proper updates from Vitalik and his team anyway.

what a strange topic. Hard fork already passed. it was not an update but a complete separation of the whole coin. the team has split itself

iam not aware eth hard fork plz if u kindly give some more details..

Do you know what Hard Fork is? or just don't know about ETH's hardfork? Well, in january 11, there will be one that will going to happen and it will be a new coin, Ethereum Classic Vision in which, when you store and hold ETH in your (PERSONAL) wallet, you will get x3 of ETCV.

This is the first I'm hearing of a potential chain split. I hope that will not happen and that there will be consensys among supporters and developers.

Hopefully this hardfork will make prices increase.
but a lot of crypto after hardfork, the price even more destroyed.
hopefully this will not happen to eth exchange rates later

Hardfork is good, I think the network will work much faster, and in the price the coin will grow well.

Hard fork creates a new branch of blockchain.
Whether there would be two different coins or just one depends on whether the old branch is continued by someone or left.
In the past, when ETH forked itself, a group of developers and miners stick with the old branch and named it ETC.
But the recent hardforks (multiple of) from ETH devs are for improving the ETH blockchain and there are no one in favor of continuing the old chain.

Hello, the hard fork of Ethereum will open in January, when you only need to put ETH in your wallet, you will receive the token when you fork.
I also saw this yesterday andi tried to read through about them. This is coming so soon, but one of the things bothering me is that, the identity of the team is not revealed. Although, no one is asked to pay anything to receive the fork, but to hold ETH in one's wallet. So the higher the ETH in the wallet, the higher the amount of the the fork that will be gotten. Well, the dates for the who thing has been made known?

It will be only a development upgrade as I know and now new coin will be released.
Anyway, the market reacts on it positively as ETH  price is increasing faster than other coins do.

There will be less ethereum produced by each block and that could affect the price of ethereum too. Some people are saying there will be a serenity coin as to be a hardfork coin caused by the serenity update in ethereum hardfork but i don't know if that was only a rumour or true story.

Thanks for this sir, I have seen the Ann thread, was about to ask the same question. But I have a clarification to make, going through different articles about the hardfork which is coming up on 11th  January 2019, I really didn't see anything like a new coin been created. All I could see is just majorly the upgrade of the network otherwise known as the Constantinople. Please, do you have any detailed articles that cover the new coin to be shared in 1:3 ratio? Thanks a lot.

Do you have an official explanation from the news website or others about this? because about ethereum in January 2019 it's quite confusing for some people including myself. Some time ago also the price of ethereum jumped up, maybe it was also because of that information?
