I can't think of a better way to grow interest (re. raise price)... we should all be tipping newbs with a link for sign up.
It's in our power to increase awareness and actually make a tangible difference!
I can. Show them the benefits of using bitcoin, don't give it away for free.

If you give away something of value (in this case bitcoin) for free then the receiver will likely just sell it for fiat cash
If I give away 50 cents worth to 20 people there's a good chance that 4+ will become interested enough to start a wallet... especially if you explain the potential growth.... hell that's like two beers or shoveling my own driveway... money well spent.

unlikely they'd sign up to an exchange with all the id requirements needed just to cash out a small amount (assuming were taking about changetip amounts here).

I think it's a great idea moving on the right direction because facebook is actually a power tool to reach out to new people especially those who have no idea what bitcoin is all about. I just tried out the service by sending 100 bits to two of my college facebook friends who accepted the tip and after trying out, they were giving positive feedback and were willing to try out further.

Might be an idea to have a schedule of donation suggestions on a daily basis. If enough people follow it, it would draw media attention and possibly raise some money for a few good causes. Like on veterans day, we could donate a few bits to a vets support fb page (hope there is an official one!).

Also, it would spread the word quicker because (presumably) people would be paying attention to 'veterans day pages' on vets day, and if they see people donating via changetip en masse they will want to join in.

Theres almost something on everyday, so there's no limit on targets. Just check Google home page too!

And I'm guessing a lot of other people don't either, which is probably why it never caught on as much as a bitcoin tipping application.

Can you back this with data?

Yes.

coinmarketcap.com

1   Bitcoin           $ 2,868,104,420            $ 208.69

7   Dogecoin.          $ 13,477,128.           $ 0.000138

I will do this but not just randomly. Maybe as a congratulations or a happy birthday. It is probably best to tip someone who is having a good day.

People tend to like something if they experience it on a good day.

Tipping on the birthday sounds like a good idea . 1$ tip toi the birthday guy Tongue

There was another company that used FB before, but i cant even remember their name now ... Sad anyone recall?

QuickCoin. It's a wallet that connects with your FB account allowing you to send btc to friends without posting on their wall.

This is awesome. ChangeTip.com now allows you to send bitcoin to another user's wall on Facebook.

I have just sent the most bitcoin today that I have in a long time because of ChangeTip now working on Facebook.

Judging from the scrolling list of ChangeTip transactions (under your ChangeTip account page) it looks like about 75% of ChangeTip's tipping is being done by Facebook users now. That's huge, and it just came out.

I'm tipping the shit out of everyone of my friend's list. I just spent $40 at CoinBase to do so. You don't have to send much, just like 25 cents or even less if you want.

You can see who accepted the tip in your ChangeTip account as well. Pretty cool. 3 people already accepted my tip.

I suspect this will make bitcoin go viral.

I suggest everyone does it. If only 5% of people on my friends list gets and uses bitcoin as a result of this, that's a big deal! And they may send to others, and so on.

Chaaarge!

I don't think it will be enough to make Bitcoin viral just yet but it is surely helping. I admire your enthusiasm.

This is a pretty cool idea. I mean after the price drop everyone was panicking and nobody was thinking straight. but this is the sort of idea that can actually help the bitcoin community survive and thrive.

Leave no FUD unchallenged
At the risk of sounding like a broken record, while this might help awareness, it does nothing to educate people about the importance of holding their own private keys and not leaving all the bits they've accumulated in the hands of a third party who could vanish at any point.  In fact, it downright encourages people to leave their money in the hands of a third party.  If you are using this to get new people involved, be sure to take the time to explain to them how to set up and back up their own wallets.
