I hope that on this day all of you are always healthy and can still carry out activities as usual with great comfort, because here at the end of Indonesia where I am experiencing flooding due to continuous rain for the last 12 hours and causing puddles in several villages that are very close with the outskirts of the city as well as being very close to the river. Usually we say that rain is a blessing for farmers, but excess water is a disaster for everyone so that it hampers the activities of all local residents and will obviously greatly affect their economic cycle.

Some of the residents' land belonging to farmers around here have been flooded and hopefully the rain will stop soon and the puddles can recede soon and I hope the local government will be able to handle this properly soon. Because at the beginning of the year we always feel excessive rain and that really suits the weather here where the rainy season here always occurs at the end to the beginning of the year.

As an ordinary person, I also feel the impact of this because when the floods hit, people who usually sell snacks on the side of the road also cannot carry out their usual activities because they are all busy looking after their own homes and those around them. Hopefully this does not happen at your place and especially elsewhere in Indonesia.

I think we'll start to see much more dramatic weather cycles in future and it is, as always, going to affect the poorest the worst. Too little rain or too much rain can be equally damaging, but some countries are very poor at resource management because of government corruption or incompetence, are likely to be worse off. We are going to see more extreme weather events due to warming, the ice caps melting and certain areas which are close to sea level might actually be lost for this reason. These things can be mitigated somewhat by improving infrastructure to deal with flooding, but it's an expensive business and sometimes people don't reinvest money wisely into their future like they should.

that is also what I've noticed people are more investing to finding another planet to lived than focusing to fix our mother earth which is the sad problem, we constantly getting minerals and deforestation in our world as we need this resources and also people keeps inventing things that make the harvesting of those mineral faster than before and only people are taking care or fixing what they have destroyed.

Heavy rain is just one part of climate change.  In fact, where I live, there is usually no rain and high humidity like this year.  It rains all week in January which is rare, in addition the wind is very strong.  Rain also damages agricultural products and food crops, leading to higher prices.  I think it is an element that has a significant influence on economic development.

Excess of everything is bad whether its continuous rain or drought. For last one year in my country there are unusual rains along with hailstorm and due to this crop production has significantly gone down. Its may and in May we have heat at it's peak but due to unusual rains fans of off. There are floods coming in winter also due to these rains. There is urgent need of measures to stop global warming.

Broadly speaking, the issue of climate change is always a challenge to the economy, climate change has a great impact on the economy of each country and the world. Climate changes such as increasing temperature, rising sea level, increasing frequency and intensity of natural disasters, etc can cause negative impacts on the economy such as property loss, reduced productivity, etc production reducing agricultural productivity, reducing livestock productivity, reducing natural resources, and increasing investment costs for infrastructure and technology.

Developed and developing countries are both facing climate change challenges and must look for ways to mitigate climate change impacts and strengthen preparedness for those impacts. inevitable movement. Maintaining an environmentally safe and sustainable level of economic development is a major challenge for governments and businesses around the world, and requires the cooperation and efforts of the entire international community economic.

I am really feeling sorry what happen in your area hope you people soon overcome from this situation. Excess rainfall leads to crop losses, resulting in lower earnings for farmers, and lower rural demand and sales. Other sectors affected by the health of rural economy are banking, NBFCs and microfinance institutions. Extreme rainfall often leads to floods, and thereby can cause significant economic damage directly, by destroying property, and indirectly by disrupting supply chains, infrastructure, and production sites.

with each challenge comes an opportunity. using a canoe, going door to door selling snacks, essentials to those who cant get out the house to go grocery shopping

emergency charities make a fortune on bottled water (if you flip a donator to the customer and a trapped resident as the bottle receiver)

you would be surprised how much money churns and gets spent when crisis occurs
The idea you are talking about is indeed very reasonable, but so far I have never thought of it like that because it only helps find people who are willing to provide assistance to those affected by the floods. And this time we also started to flood again after a few days ago experiencing receding, but last night when it rained for six hours without stopping, we were again hit by flooding which was a little worse than the previous one.

I wonder if its feasible to use a pipeline to pump flood waters into nearby drylands. There are industrial pumps which can move hundreds of gallons per minute. The hard part could be finding a place to pump all of the excess water to.

Or dig trenches and pits to funnel excess flood waters into. Excavators and bulldozers might be able to gouge out a massive area near flooded cities, where flood waters could be redistributed to.
That would be feasible, but the problem here is that there is no dry land nearby other than another way of channeling all this excess water through a ditch that leads to the river as well as to the sea. Because there are many ditches that are of low depth and also a lot of them that are dirty because they were not cleaned frequently in the past year, this is a very sad consequence that everyone has to bear now. Now the second flood is back and everyone is busy trying to save their belongings for the day.

Flood is natural occurrence which takes effects in every particular months of each year, this actually ravage our country on early month of October 2022, which almost rendered about 5 to 7 states homeless in my country, farms and livestocks were destroyed and lots of people misplaced their children and love ones due to the uncontrollable speed rate of the flood taking over the villages by surprise and shocked. At this points feeding became very hard, no place to sleep and have a rest. I don't think anyone should wish to experience such.

However, it can be controlled by building and constructing water channels across the the affected villages as well as reducing the rate at which buildings are being erected at the water lodges and swampy areas, this includes dumping of refuges in an unwanted place. Much filling of the swamps may cause flood because whenever it rains and there is no channel for the rain to flush away through the channels it remains stagnant and keeps increasing as the rain continuous, at the end will turn out to be flood.

I am sorry about the natural disaster that is happening in your area. It is undeniable that every time a natural disaster such as a flood occurs in your area, it has hampered the local community's economy. However, to overcome this problem so that it doesn't happen again, the community must take the right steps, such as always maintaining a clean environment and not cutting down trees. In addition, the local government must also make development plans that are right on target. Investment in the development sector is very important to do, especially in the field of irrigation development because Indonesia is also known for its tropical climate.

Southeast Asia is prone to flooding, because Southeast Asia has a tropical climate. Continuous rain is not very good, especially for farmers. Plants will be damaged and reduce crop production. Likewise for street vendors, the constant rain must make them stop for a moment to sell. And yes, all of that will hamper the economic cycle.

Floods can disrupt people's daily activities, such as submerging main road access.

In addition to the economy, continuous rain and flooding will also cause health problems, which will affect the community by various diseases.

Economic cycle? This is a natural climatic disaster, it doesn't only disturbs the economic cycle but the complete life cycle of a certain place. A lot of people die and have to be relocated, not to forget even animals suffer a lot of deaths. People are abandoned and separated from their loved ones. So this is much more than just a disturbance in economic cycle.
I have to agree with you on this point. Flooding will not only destroy us economically, but the whole aspects of life are being damaged and ruined. The sad fact is we can’t do nothing about this even how much we say we are completely prepared. This is not just happening in your area OP, but in some countries as well. I just hope that the government have enough resources to extend assistance to all the flood victims.

We are just preparing those flooding but we dont do anything to prevent it like stop cutting trees and also planting a trees a lot , also only those NGOs are doing this. We also always blaming government on what disaster hit us and that they are not doing anything but our selves is that we dont take care of our environment, continue throwing garbage anywhere and also burning plastics. We can't really stop this this right now unless we act as a whole so that we can heal our only earth and again we are affected on it.

Yeah it's just like with anything in live, there's always a balance that needs to be had for things to be perfect..not too much rain, but not too much dry weather.  We are experiencing a similar thing here in the United States in certain areas. California has had some substantial rain themselves, which has put a hamper on tourism there which of course effects the economy as an entirety.

Best of luck to you guys with recovering from that mess!

Nature itself warns of the need to end the consumerist and barbaric attitude of man towards her. If people on our planet do not draw the appropriate conclusions, then it will be even worse. The average temperature on our planet is rising at an alarming rate. Because of this, the climate, the direction of sea currents, the direction of winds, and air masses change very dramatically. Everything that had previously been established in nature and to which people were accustomed began to move. It is difficult to break the balance in nature, but it is even more difficult to correct the situation later. Already now, great efforts are needed by all mankind in this matter, otherwise the situation will only worsen.

Live with peace and enjoy life!
Here we are also facing a severe rainy season. It rains almost everyday and all day long, but that is normal, due to the currently season of the year. Dirt roads become impassable sometimes on the reclined parts and there is nothing we can do besides waiting. Plain, flat areas where farmers use to grow crops and let their cattle eat are completely taken by water, like a great river. But again, that is normal because the nature has been behaving like this since a long time ago.

We should adapt ourselves to this reality and prepare for times like this. For an example: don't spend too much money investing on crops that might be lost to the excessive rain, build houses on safe terrain, make sure there is a decent water flow mechanism in houses and city, prefer projecting and developing suspended buildings.
Well, January here is also a time of rainy season. But I must say this year was even more damaging because due to non stop raining, our place also ends up in flooding that cause to end some human and animals lives, and that has never happened before. Even if people have prepared for this rainy season, but we are not prepared for the flood. That’s why suspension of jobs and classes were observed, and I think the most affected were those stall business owners who can no longer sell for few days because of the flood, leaving their own families starving.

what I observe from every occurrence of a flood disaster in an area is because of the people themselves, where they throw garbage indiscriminately and do not provide smooth waterways besides the lack of public awareness in protecting the environment.  The most influential in this disaster will be the farmers because their crops will fail and a shortage of staple goods will occur, so small traders will also be hampered by the increase in the price of goods.  besides that workers will take the day off because of the loss of access to alternative roads, submerged buildings and loss of communication networks.
Flood disasters always occur when the rainy season comes, this is due to the lack of awareness of the people who do not want to be disciplined, in the sense that they always throw garbage indiscriminately which clogs drains or rivers because a lot of people throw it there, this awareness never goes away, even though the government has made efforts to prevent people from habitually littering, if this has happened then an area feels that all of them including farmers will also fail to harvest because their fields are submerged and make their crops useless.
So our efforts are started from ourselves because after all, if we live cleanly, throw away unwanted things and always look after the waterways, then it won't have a big impact.

Dirt roads are one of the main problem when it's raining but many people put the blame to the government. If only the government fix the road earlier and make it a concrete one then there will be no problems but governments on some countries are just corrupt and they use the tax on any other things or for their personal use and not to make the country  (or it's economy) to look better.

Water cause by rains are helpful for the farmers to grow their crops well but too much of it can hamper their crops. I think it's important for them to study how the seasons work so that they won't waste money and time on planting but they can grow their crops effectively.

A higher percentage of sand and gravel in the soil can facilitate better water drainage.

I think regions with high concentrations of clay in the soil can act as a moisture barrier. Making them prone towards not draining and or being absorbed by the soil.

Flooding causes all types of major issues, even after flood waters recede. Hopefully city planners can better take into account changing weather patterns and adjust accordingly.

First of all I'm very sorry for what you have had to experience due to flooding. Coincidentally we just experienced the first rain of the year as I read this post and the rain has started very heavily, this indicates that we may see more heavy rainfalls during the course of the year. I understand that the issue of controlling flooding is majorly a job and responsibility of the government but personally on your own terms you can do well by starting to prepare for the flood if your area has not yet been flooded. Clear drainages around you, and do not obstruct waterways.
Flooding maybe hard to controlled especially if you are living in a city since there are only few trees around that will absorb the water, and the rest are huge buildings and infrastructures that have nothing to do to prevent the excessive rain. However, if you are a responsible citizen, you should always be prepared for it especially that heavy rains in our country is mostly expected at the beginning and end of the year. Have your own basic necessities ready before the water becomes high, and if possible look for an evacuation area in case the water is unstoppable anymore that it goes through inside the house and damage the appliances.
