But what if he is wrong with it? What are we going to say about him? He is brilliant and call him whatever, but I think this is just a mere coincidence and nothing more. If he has the crystal ball then he's one lucky guy, but I guess he just got lucky with his prediction and no need to sensationalized it.
Don't think he is just s lucky guy.  He invested not only into Bitcoin but into Twitter, Skype and Tesla long time ago.   This points to his brilliant analitics possibilities.
While what you say could be true and his investments in all those companies maybe the result of incredible abilities in order to predict the next big thing you need to understand there is also something called insider trading, so maybe he had access to privileged information that no one else had and he was able to take advantage of it, I'm not saying that happened just that is a possibility.

I respect the accuracy of his public statement. if bitcoin would have only risen to 2k (which still would have been great) everyone would laughed about him.

One thing to consider, Tim Draper is part of the wealthy elite and may be an insider. Meaning that in the circles that he runs in, he may get insider information that ordinary people on the street don't.

I believe he may have known a year or two in advance about the CME Group launching Bitcoin futures trading, and the NASDAQ Bitcoin futures on the way. He may also be aware of current Bitcoin ETF discussions. Perhaps he knew that once these discussions got underway and launch dates got closer, the price would run up and eventually hit his $10k price prediction.

This is just a guess. Is that insider trading? Well not really, he probably just knew what was being discussed in certain circles and the eventual impact it would have on the market.

He is quite famous now because he was able to predict what the price of bitcoin will be. During those times, many people would think he is crazy speculating for bitcoin to reach that price which is highly unlikely but now people are wishing to go back in time to buy more 3 years ago. It is only a coincidence though that the price he said is right and he is saying it in front of the camera viewed by so many people.

There is also one reddit article that I read around 4 years ago when he predicted as well the price of bitcoin now which is $10,000 and he is claiming he is from the future. Price for next year would be $100,000 according to him. Let's just wait then if his prediction will happen or not.

Dang, that's a hell of a prediction. Timing and the actual value are pretty much entirely on point.

However, a bit of luck was involved for sure as well. If he didn't have luck on his side, then this prediction could have been faltered. That doesn't take away that the fact that he literally foretold the world what was going to happen.

Bitcoin's potential is unparalelled as an investment for the past 200 years, at the least. It's the only viable option to take control back from central banks.

What's so special in that? Search this Speculation section, you will find many predictions for $10K, some of them with exact timing too. It is not so special in case of Bitcoins and cryptocurrencies to make predictions because there isn't any parameter to do so. This market moves random and every prediction is more or less guess or inner wisdom!

i don't have enough information about this guy (Tim Draper) to say what is special about him but i have seen all the rest of them saying it will be $10k, and i have to say most of them were pretty hyped up because of the 2013 pump/bubble/willyBot incident and they were just saying it and not based on any reason. something similar to the current speculation of random guys saying bitcoin will be $1 million by 2020. it can happen but that doesn't mean all those who say it are making an educated prediction.
it is as they say: even a stopped clock is right twice a day.

Lol good thing his son convinced him to buy those. Now if only he had the liquidity to ever get rid of them. Oh well, I'm glad he's sticking by the bitcoins and not going back to dirty shitty fiat. It's hard to go back to a currency that loses 3% year over year when you can have a currency that earns 1000%. Some day when we level out we'll still be going up in value from dust being left in wallets and bitcoin that get lost of course.

Has he made any recent predictions about 2018 or beyond? Interested to see what he has to say.

It is special because how many people have the guts to follow their words, he bought 40k bitcoins and we do not know how many more he has stashed away, at 10k per bitcoin he has 400 million dollars worth of bitcoin I do not know how rich is that guy but I'm sure bitcoin is slowly becoming a bigger part of his portfolio and at some point it may become its main holding and producer of profits.

That is a fantastic amount of money, he has been a good influencer over bitcoin during the last years.

but for buying 40 000 Bitcoins from US government in 2013 on auction, after confiscating them from Silk Road

I didn't knew that he was holding that huge amount of bitcoins, maybe that is the main reason of why he has been hyping it so hard,  Grin

He is going to trip to Argentina during the next week, one my sources told me that he is going to give a speech about bitcoin and how does it works, and try to convince some financial institutions in there about using it.

But just imagine this! lol, bitcoin dropped to $250 on 2013, and now it is upto $11,000. WHAT A HUGE PROFIT.

He is definetely the brilliant clever guy  Cheesy Cheesy

Nah, he's not "definitely the brilliant clever guy"...you're just succumbing to the natural human tendency to find connections and relationships between things that don't really exist.

His prediction was just a guess. There's zero way he could have created a financial model to calculate the prediction. He literally, just got lucky. And if he'd made some other prediction no one would have even remembered that he was wrong as we approach the start of 2018.
So you think his investments into twitter, Tesla, bitcoin and skype was merely a guess ?  Huh   Grin

Just one investment into Skype brought him $400 mln when it was sold to Ebay.

Also it was his idea in 1996 to automatically attach advertising messages to the bottom of outgoing Hotmail emails.

Yep, and this guy was deemed insane to buy 40,000 BTC back then. We had nobel prizes claiming how "bitcoin was a bubble and was going to crash". And now here we are, as they say, time puts everyone on their on place, and bitcoin believers have been compensated with great wealth, haters have been punished for doubting it.

The good news is the fact that this has only begun. They are saying Mike Novogratz is too bullish with his $40,000 prediction for 2018, and just like Tim Drapper, he will come short (notice how Tim said 2018, and we crossed $10,000 before 2018). We will cross $40,000 next year and once again doubters will have a lesson on what exponential growth means.

Exactly people are speculating all the time. I'm sure a lot of other people predicted it as well but he did it on national tv. At the end of the day everyone is just guessing and no one really knows what they're doing. So it's not that fantastic.
This guy is a well-educated businessmen who had fortune of 1 billion(!) USD, before he even bought 40k bitcoins on auction  Wink

Exactly. There are so many people who come out with their opinions and speculations, and I think that's great. However, it just so happened that this guy (Tim Draper) was at the front of a couple of news shows. Look into these forums and you'll find many who have predicted the 10k but the thing is, they didn't have the same public presence as this guy. Everyone can speculate, I think it's just a matter of luck.
I agree with you. We hear so many different predictions about the price of bitcoin that any price is bound to be someone predicted. I would be interested to hear opinions on the underlying causes of this price, but it is not. Nobody knows how will react to bitcoin on events that have not yet occurred.

He is definetely not a usual guy, his company invested into Skype in 2004, and owed 10% of it when Skype was sold to Ebay for $4 billions.  Cheesy

He's still lucky in a sense. You haven't seen the number of failed projects he placed his money in. The secret to angel investing is to diversify your risk. If 9 out of 10 projects fail, but the one project that moons will off set the 9 other failures.

Also, checking the competence of the dev team is also important.
