there are many good types of altcoin in the market, but my first choice is bitcoin and eth, maybe because in my opinion both of these altcoins have a good value in the market and stay afloat even if the market price is unstable.

Talking about favorite coin in 2018 I have my favorite coin to hold and keep it n 2018 is ethereum altcoin. I have see and check how grow up of altcoin ethereum day by day, before etehreum have low price on $300 and now have reached more than $800 and will be increased more than $1000 in seveal month later. I have buy ethereum at 2017 and still keep for one years and will sell it at end of this years.
I am fond of Bitcoin. As of now, there are lots of cryptocurrency on the internet. However, Bitcoins are by far the one with the largest user adoption and market cap. Therefore, if you have to pick a cryptocurrency, go for Bitcoins.
i have invested on NEO, ICX and IOST and i got profits also, this three coins have good future and i hope three coins reach good price this year end
My favourite coin is EOS at the moment. As you know, EOS came way after Bitcoin and Ethereum. It came after blockchain technology had been tested in the markets for some time, and its key weaknesses exposed. One of the biggest problems that faces most blockchain platforms, especially the Ethereum smart contracts platform is that of scalability. This coin seems to have solved this problem quite successfully. Therefore, I think EOS is a good investment.

Besides ETH, I prefer NEO right now. NEO has likely the function of the platform as the ETH> However, it is much speedier than ETH. Additionally, it is trusted as one of the blockchain platforms to compete for the ETH. I know that the progress is small but it is rising more and more. SO, I'm sure that holding NEO for a long time will be better and more promising.
