April 25 Update:

I've hired someone (Fiverr[dot]com is a beautiful thing) to compile a list of all the 90 Bitcoin meetup groups. I've asked for the following information:

1. Name of the group
2. Location
3. Url
4. Number of members
5. Activity rating
6. Number of people per meet-up event

I'm so short on time these days, decided to pull in additional resources. Once I start getting this information populated, I plan to:

1. Make contact with the Bitcoin meetup organizers
2. Find out if they are discussing alt currencies
3. If the group is big enough, travel to the location and meet their membership (we travel quite a bit on the weekends)
4. Ask to contact their user base about Feathercoin faucets and maybe offer free coins to the group (I'll need to take a look at my reserves)

As promised, progress. Not looking for any type of bounties, just doing my part

** To my critics **

You are right, I don't have the time to spend on projects entirely. This is why I choose to bring in friends and outsource the rest.  Grass roots is about organizing, someone willing to step up, execution and having fun in the process.

If you are going to do an awareness driving campaign, I would focus it more on general cryptocoins, starting with BTC.
The reason being I think feathercoin is too specific and new to drive awareness on. Increasing awareness overall on cryptos will have the desired effect on feathercoin if it turns out to be a currency that is here to stay.
Great enthusiasm IMO anyway. Good luck Smiley

We're on the same page.  I'm contacting existing Bitcoin groups to make sure their members know about Feathercoin... and looking to create an 'Alternate Crypto' type as you mentioned above.

I appreciate the support, thank you.

Here's an idea, I'm looking forward to community input.  During Ron Paul's campaign (please avoid the politics, this is just to give a point of reference), I was one of the early adopters in organizing meetup groups across the country. It was a great opportunity to discuss ideas as well as develop ways to get our message out to the public. We would do everything ranging from:

1. Creating signs
2. Contributing to purchase ad space and billboards
3. Develop marketing campaigns
4. Phone bank initiatives
5. Voter registration
6. Messageboard management
etc..

I noticed there's something like 90 Bitcoin meetup groups and quite a few more with others that might back crypto currencies such as Libertarians (again, not at all interested in political debate here).

Ideas:

1. I'd like to make contact with all the meetup groups. Find out what they are currently doing and how we might be able to assist with Feathercoin information.

2. Form Feathercoin specific meetup groups

3. Develop advocacy information for our meeting groups

What could Feathercoin Meetups do?

1. Discuss advocacy ideas on Messageboards
2. Create websites
3. Find guest speakers to talk about crypto coins
4. Speak at community events (ex: Chamber of Commerce)
5. Create signs/flyers (these were great during RP days at coffee shops/community colleges)
6. Put together a drive to help x amount of people setup Feathercoin wallets
7. Talk to small businesses about Feathercoin adoption

These meetups were fun. It was a social event that allowed us to push something we believed in forward.  I feel when people actually see the easy and speed of Feathercoin, they want to learn more about it. These meetups would serve as that instrument.

Aside from coordinating a tiered Meetup system for the Ron Paul grassroots movement, I've developed meetup groups in the past and currently run a few that are extremely active. This is one way I plan to help contribute to the community. If anyone has any ideas or would like to assist, please let me know.

If theres ever any near me, I would want to go! (:

wtf, give up, dont pile time and effort into something that will die

lol ok you upset, you didnt buy cheap, stop whining Smiley There is nothing wrong with ppl who believe in this, even if its a utopia !

I plan to bring at least another 80 people downloading wallets in the next month. It's not just the 80 people, it's encouraging them to do the same.
And pyramid scheme coin was born, don't forget to tell them they will become millionaires  Cheesy

Cute.  All I ask is people investigate it.. I'm not forcing someones hand to purchase coins. If they look into FC and don't like it, they will vote with their dollars. I don't make a dime from it.  I've been upfront about this from the beginning. Aside from the rich coin kids, as a guy approaching 40, I'm better off financially than most. I bought Litecoin while it was really inexpensive and have spent years in the grass roots realm for politics. I'm backing Feathercoin, and see what happens.

When it comes to my training company (primarily Cisco oriented) I pay for referrals. I hope that customers find value in what I offer and tell other potential customers. Pyramid? Welcome to good business.

If you're just joking.. cool, this is still valid against the people that don't quite get how adoption is beneficial.  If they don't want to spend a dime, great, they grabbed a few coins and I spent a few minutes with them. Smiley

Hello, I think the biggest strategy is Donation of Feathercoins.

And I mean significant ammounts like 10-20 coins.

Something to make people download the wallet.

Also find the best possible Acronim. It is Vastly important, look for something that reminds FIAT money.

My 2 Cents

I'm with you. I was giving out 25 coins at a time on BTC-e (chewed through a lot of them) now down to 12.   I plan to bring at least another 80 people downloading wallets in the next month. It's not just the 80 people, it's encouraging them to do the same.  You're absolutely right.

I'd love more people to join me there to assist. Even if it's 10 coins at a time, it would help. I plan to get all of those people on a twitter feed to assist with advocacy.

Would love the help, let me know!

He should follow his quote

But anyways, good luck with the meetups! Doubt I'd really be able to partake in any of it at the moment, but if there's an opportunity and there's one near me I may give some of my time Smiley

Funny, they said the same thing about our Ron Paul efforts in 2004 when we had to bust #$@# to push 'google Ron Paul'. Again, I appreciate the feedback and look forward to making those that didn't buy low upset. Wink

Love all the 'leave this coin alone'... makes me smile.

I like your enthusiasm.

In my humble opinion we should focus on increasing Feathercoins web presence and promoting it online. And most importantly keeping the network hashrate high and continuing to strengthen it... if the network hash remains strong for long enough Vircurex will pick it up.

Something we could do: grow the Reddit Feathercoin subreddit: http://www.reddit.com/r/Feathercoin/  (Litecoin one has 3000 active members).

I appreciate the feedback, I know exactly where you're coming from. There are definitely higher priority projects, I hope people latch onto it! For me, I need to focus on projects where I offer the most benefit. I've helped coordinate meetups coast to coast, I'm willing to throw a little elbow grease at this project.

I've also handed out coins to about 50 people in BTC-e, setup 11 or so friends on Feathercoin E-Wallets. We're forming a group, and our push will be to develop projects that help further FC. I continue to make mentions on Youtube and will create a twitter with those I've personally brought into FC to help coordinate efforts.  Lots of coals in the fire..

I agree, you should lead the Reddit Feathercoin subreddit.. I'll be right behind you supporting it all the way! Feel free to post that in my 30 day Feathercoin challenge thread.  As a guy in his upper 30s, I've been fortunate enough to be able to allocate resources.

As always, let me know how I can help.

You're wasting your time, concentrate on other currencies, this is going to die quicker than a cow with mad cow disease

I appreciate the feedback, good luck on your mad cow disease avoidance procedures.

What I'm looking for is essentially is feedback on anything that doesn't look right. Does the approach look solid?
