The easiest way I see would be the option to quote selected text. But not so sure it would/could/should be added on the current SMF version.
I have been following a quite while about epochtalk, few users said it's done and technically we can migrated to the new forum software. However I don't really see there's a big demand to use epochtalk and leaving this forum since most users already familiar with bitcointalk, also the features itself. I'm not sure when will @theymos or @Cyrus will officially announce we need to move to epochtalk. I didn't mean to rush, but if we didn't try now, we might didn't move and epochtalk might be abandoned.

Might work with a userscript or something but you would need to give the script access to your session key. So definitely not the safest option ...

I'm an android user (version 12). In the "Clipboard" feature, I can see the history of up to 30 copied texts. And I can also lock some of the texts I use frequently from being deleted (including after restarting the device). Perhaps this feature can be used instead of the "split text" button on the forums.

Just lock up code
Code:
[/quote]
..........
[quote]

into your clipboard using the messages/notes app. If the "clipboard" option doesn't appear on some sites, just make sure that the text is the last copied. Suppose you can re-copy using the address bar.
Don't know if it also works for iphone.

Important note: don't copy your private key carelessly

I will not advice you to try all those mobile browsers like Chrome, Brave and also privacy browsers like Firefox on mobile, Firefox is only better for this site on computer, I mean for typing on this forum, aside that, Firefox is very good. I can only recommend you two browsers which will help your typing experience and also checking merit history to be enjoyable, they are Via if you do not much care about privacy. I will strongly recommend Duckduckgo for privacy. Typing on mobile is so frustrating but using any of those two browsers will give you a better experience. I will say I recommend Duckduckgo because it is a privacy browser but Via has more convenience, but privacy is good.

Do you use low spec phone? Chrome/FF and such are heavy browsers, hence you may be feeling slow typing and fast on Via as it's lightweight. On mid/high end phone, it makes no difference.

But there is a solution, you don't need to insert quote first
That doesn't help much to split someone else's text. You'll need to manually remove the first [ quote] and the last [ /quote] again.

But there is a solution, you don't need to insert quote first

1. Type your text, or paste what you wan to quote
2. Select the text you wish to put withing the quotes
3. Press the Insert Quote button
4. Ta da... all your text is already quoted

Isn't doing almost anything with your phone harder than with PC, including typing and browsing?
When I type in English with my phone, I like to use the swype feature and just slide my finger from letter to letter. I find it to be quicker and with less errors than with normal typing of letter by letter. So in terms of typing, I don't mind either option. I don't like the overall experience of using Bitcointalk with my phone, but that's a different thing.

You are not using your mobile account so much so it's not a not a big deal, unless you somehow manage to convince theymos to make changes.
The split quote feature could (if introduced) be used by anyone and considering that many people prefer mobile phones these days or don't have a laptop/PC at all, it would make things easier.

On a PC, I don't really need it, but on mobile, typing this is slow. This could also help less experienced users to use proper quote tags.

If you are replying to one member multiple times than you can easily copy-paste and use small parts of the text.
Things get tricky if you need to reply to more than one member, but I am sure everyone will understand if you just use member username @ without quoting anything.
You are not using your mobile account so much so it's not a not a big deal, unless you somehow manage to convince theymos to make changes.

PS
I know there are some people who hate doing those spaghetti posts with lot of quoted replies Wink

Correct. That is exactly what loyce wants help with.
That's very useful, especially for those posting from a phone. It's not that difficult to split the quotes with a few additional clicks and copy/pastes on a computer, but the experience is much worse when using a phone.
Right. That is exactly the rationale in the OP. I am not sure about android keyboards, but on an iPhone, you have to click on the keyboard type multiple times in order to both close the quote and open a new quote, which is a hassle.

Nice request LoyceV!

I found a script User Script: Automatically remove nested quotes v1.1.1

Someone can code and modify ~snip~ to a space, then it will turn to be a new script that matches your request. It's not too difficult for many skillful coders here.

I think I get it now.

So, If I say:

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.
yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy.
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

LoyceV wants an easy way to do:

Quote from: Pmalek
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.
Reply here
Quote
yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy.
Reply here
Quote
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
Reply here
Quote
...

That's very useful, especially for those posting from a phone. It's not that difficult to split the quotes with a few additional clicks and copy/pastes on a computer, but the experience is much worse when using a phone.

We are supposed to use the button to split quotes, so there should be a closing quote tag at the end already.
But there isn't one in LoyceV's example. One quote tag is closed, he opens a new one, but where is the closing one? Besides, multiple quotes require multiple closing quote tags. What am I missing here? Embarrassed
I have tried to understand what LoyceV meant but I could not actually understand fully, but it seems that many people have understood him.
There is what I discovered which I don't know if it's what he is saying. If you drop a long post and I want to reply to your post sentence by sentence or phrase by phrase, it will mean that I have to quote your texts multiple times. Doing this is always tedious as I have to copy and past the op header link several times, but with the implementation of multiple quote, I will not go through the huddles of copy pasting.
Loyce is proposing something for instances in which someone wants to respond to lines/parts of a particular post individually.

So if, for example, someone makes two separate points in a post, he wants to be able to write something below each point separately, and have a new quote tag opened to signify that he is quoting what you said.

Definitely an useful feature, since I am started using forum mobile than notebook nowadays so it is always kind of difficult especially with fat fingers  Cheesy when we want to split a quote and give reply to particular parts. But again it just eliminate the job of creating quotes still we want to copy and past the part that we want to separate for some reasons then to reply each of them.

I don't think this would be difficult to implement.

The relevant code is likely already in the SMF codebase, and very little should need to be changed from the 'insert quote' button.

I do agree that inserting a 'quote' and '/quote' is difficult on the iPhone keyboard because of all the times the keyboard needs to be switched in order to press the "/" and the "[" buttons. This feature would be useful.

I do not know much about what you are saying, this my post can be somehow off-topic, but it will be good if I let you know about it as I see you to be a person that uses computer to post often. I will not advice you to try all those mobile browsers like Chrome, Brave and also privacy browsers like Firefox on mobile, Firefox is only better for this site on computer, I mean for typing on this forum, aside that, Firefox is very good. I will say I recommend Duckduckgo because it is a privacy browser but Via has more convenience, but privacy is good.

To quote on mobile is not hard and can be very fast, maybe I am getting you wrongly. If I want to quote, I just select the person I want to quote like this after I quote the person and delete all what the person posted but only remaining what I want to code below

Code:
[quote author=LoyceV link=topic=5398727.msg60137564#msg60137564 date=1652607271]

[/quote]

[quote author=LoyceV link=topic=5398727.msg60137564#msg60137564 date=1652607271]

[/quote]

...and I put in the quote I want.

If it is normal quote, I just select and paste the text I want to quote, select it on what I want to post and click on the quote icon above which is very easy for me to do.

What is the ultimate goal?
Splitting quotes.

Maybe my post got confusing from explaining what the current Insert Quote button does. You won't use that button if you use the one I requested. "Mine" is meant for after you quote a post.

I didn't see the example LoyceV linked to, to be honest. I just got what he meant by reading the OP.

When you quote someone and need to split the quote to address each part separately, you just place the cursor where you need to insert the split quote tags.

Example:
Code:
[quote author=s0m30n3]...[/quote][quote]...[/quote][quote]...[/quote][quote]...[/quote]

it will look like this:
Quote from: s0m30n3
...
Quote
...
Quote
...

What is the ultimate goal? Do you want a button that puts one paragraph in quotes, and then creates new quote tags where you can enter a different text? I might have been dropped on my head as a baby, so I am not sure I understand the request properly, bear with me.

But shouldn't it be

Code:
[/quote]

[quote] [/quote]
instead of
Code:
[/quote]

[quote]
?
