The first week of the first group stage ended. Considering the FIBA world ranking, the only surprise was Poland's victory over Venezuela. According to what I read on FIBA's website, it was their first win on a world stage in the last 52 years. Poland should be really appreciated for this great result.
It was their first win in World after 52 years just because they haven't played in World Cup since 1967. And I wouldn't call it as surprise, Poland basketball level is better than Venezuela. Only surprise for me is Russia win over Nigeria. 16 first games in World Cup ended with average 21,3 points difference. Everyone now knows how to play basketball...

My team Lithuania reached huge win against Senegal. I expected that we will win by 20-30 points, but I definitely didn't 54 points advantage. Team of Senegal is a joke, I can't understand how they qualified to World Cup.
Tomorrow there will be some matches which might be interesting, like Argentina - Nigeria. It's do or die match for Nigeria. China - Poland and Iran - Tunisia also should be close game.

Greece with an easy win vs Montenegro and some strong defence. Giannis only played 15 min.

I saw a news recently that Serbia is practicing for their match tomorrow against Philippines. I admire these guys hardwork, although they are known to be one of the powerhouse in FIBA but they are not just letting their confidence work on its own.

Instead of taking a rest and just be confident since the crowd has been telling they are par with team USA yet they are practicing and working for tomorrow's match.
What did you expect? Did you really expect Serbia to rest before their tomorrow's match and play without any preparation? Here is world cup and cannot underestimate the teams. All the teams try their best to get a good result. Serbia shouldn't underestimate Philippines. Serbia players are professional and know what they should do.
So, do you expect United States to not prepare for upcoming matches and start it from quarterfinals? No team rest even if the opponent is ranked 200th in the world. What Serbia is doing is what every team does.

Showing the determination and dedication would lift up the spirit, this powerhouse team is expected to dominate against their opponent tomorrow, Philippines don't have any chance to win but Serbia is taking this tournament with pride, wanting to make a good impression while working each day to make sure that the chemistry between players will be much easier to connect.

According to what I read on FIBA's website, it was their first win on a world stage in the last 52 years. Poland should be really appreciated for this great result. All the other matches finished with the victory of higher ranked team based on FIBA world ranking. However some of the matches were really close, none of them finished with victory of the lower raked team. The closest match was Iran vs Puerto Rico which Iran won the first half by 19 points and led by 11 points three minutes left till end of the match. But they couldn't make a surprise.
So, in the first week, if you had trusted FIBA world ranking, you could have predicted 15 matches out of the 16 ones correctly.

The way that I see for them to win before the start of the game is a good defense and at the same time, best offense especially in the threes but its the opposite. Poor defense and poor offense and include the 9 turnovers of Blatche. I understand that Italy is ranked 13 but if the threes of Philippines went in, the lead should be lower than what happened. Anyway, feel sorry for them. It will be worst if they will also lost to Angola in Sept 4. PH vs. Serbia?? I will just gamble in Serbia Cheesy.

Well.. rather than aiming for the 3s, my opinion is that they should try to get closer to the basket. They might have thought that they may stand a 50% chance of winning points with the farther shoots. But that just didn't happened. IMO, you need to go with an attacking mindset. Italy may be a higher ranking side, but they are not invincible. So there was no need to be overly defensive.

BTW, today also we had a bunch of one-sided matches. Lithuania won by 50+ points against Senegal, and Greece had an easy victory over Montenegro. Today's last two matches are ongoing and both France and US are comfortably ahead of their rivals. So no surprises today.

How about Philippines against Italy? It is a one sided game with no chance for the Philippines to win. It is a devastating loss and even God's cannot help them out of this lump.

I wonder why Philippines in every game they don't have that stamina to bet foreign players. Is that because of races or because of being overtaken with bad expectations? In order for them to win, having proper training is a must.

Not just training but understand the differences of other top rank teams.

Once they have figured it out and analyzed what they lack to have toe to toe matches with those teams.

That should be included on what they have to improve.

The thing is the Philippines need better players. We terribly lack them. Our roster is really no match to the rosters of Italy, for example, and other higher ranked teams in FIBA. Our players cannot play toe to toe with other teams even if they have underwent the best of training.

Race is undeniably one very significant factor. We are generally smaller people. And considering that only a single naturalized player is allowed per game, every game is going to be a tough uphill battle.
Yes, that's what the team needs.

I know that their current roster is filled with experience and all professionals but compare to other teams, that's the sad reality that they have to accept. I know they are doing their best to make it and they've earned their spot there but still I'll just wish them luck for their next games.

The Senagal vs Lithuania and France vs Germany matches are going to be exciting.
Lithuania is dominating the game already with a 27 pt lead going to halftime. I think the France Germany match is a good one since the odds in gambling sites are close. USA will dominate the Czech Republic too and also Greece

No surprises from the first four matches today. The only close one was Dominican Republic versus Jordan, in which the Asians gave DR a run for their money. Canada and New Zealand performed better than expected. But there is no use of a good performance, when you can't win the match. NZ had enough chances for a win, had they tried a bit harder.

Now we have a bunch of very exciting matches and teams such as US, Greece and France will be in action. I expect the US vs CzR match to be too one-sided and I am not even going to watch it. The Senagal vs Lithuania and France vs Germany matches are going to be exciting.

But one thing's for sure: I wouldn't put my expectations too high this time.
They will surely lose to the Serbians and no one is expecting them to win though. Let us remember that being in the World is a big honor for a basketball fanatic country like us and a win in the elimination stage is a bonus as the competition is very tough in there.

Canada Vs Australia now.

I'm still on Australia now but I am betting with handicap on sportsbet.io like this.

Kind of risky right? But I know Australia can do it. They have some NBA players here, especially Matthew DELLAVEDOVA. I'm just betting with handicap because the odds is likely tempting.
Australia have a higher chance to win over Canada and with how sports book gives that handicap it's possible for them cover that, double digit lead might be expected here, as those NBA players can collaborate Bogut, Mills, Ingles and Dellavedova would be the tower we seen them defeating team US from their pre game before this tournament started, good luck to your bet mate.

Yeah. They need all the support they can get; maybe not from our President but at least from our country's citizens. Because my father told me that there was a news where in PRRD said that Ph don't stand a chance against Italy. I wasn't able to watch that news but, I'm so disappointed that he said that.  Undecided He really is brutally honest. But I know Gilas will find that statement motivating rather than disheartening.
Don't you know that PRRD will be the Gilas number one supporter when they play against Italy? It's reported that he will be watching that game if nothing changes on his schedule. Like what you have said, he is just brutally honest to tell that Gilas has no chance against Italy and it is good as it will lower the expectation of the non-basketball fanatic Filipinos on their quest.
I have read that news online. Well, the final score of 62-108 says it all. They really did struggle. I think I was the only one who was so positive and thought that Gilas could own that game. Guess I put my expectations too high. And from that loss, Gilas should really do their homework.

However, the positive side on this is that the young guys gave their best, and proved that they are not afraid of the world stage and bigger opponents. They should keep that up.

Anyway, with their game against Serbia on Monday, I think they're gonna have to quadruple their efforts or even more. According to Coach Guiao himself:
Quote
"I guess, we just have to gather ourselves again and be able to recover physically, and be able to find additional motivation to be able to play Serbia."[1]

But one thing's for sure: I wouldn't put my expectations too high this time.

You can really see the difference of playing style here as there are outclass from the beginning. I just turn off my tv when I saw the lead getting bigger. Although the Philippines really did their best, I guess it's not enough for this kind of high level basketball competition.

France vs Germany is an intriguing match, I'm sure it will be a close one, but I'm leaning of Germany here.

France vs. Germany is the most interesting match up for me today. Hopefully, we get to see another Iran-Puerto Rico like match here.

For those looking for free livestream, Facebook is one platform where you can get it. There will always be someone who will be streaming, just don't expect to see high quality videos though.

Yesterday all of my predictions were correct, including the two very very close matches (Iran vs Puerto Rico and Russia vs Nigeria). And here comes my predictions for today's matches:

Canada vs Australia: Australia
NZ vs Brazil: Brazil
Turkey vs Japan: Turkey
Dominican Rep vs Jordan: DR
Senegal vs Lithuania: Lithuania
Greece vs Montenegro: Greece
France vs Germany: Germany
CzR vs USA: USA

The United States and France will be in action for the first time today. Greece will be taking on Montenegro at 12:00pm GMT and half an hour later the United States will take on Czech Republic. The most one sided match is going to be LIT vs SEN, while the most closely fought one may be either France vs Germany or Canada vs Australia.
