Wow Brazil got their asses handed to them, way to letdown a whole country, the USA can say they did better against the Germans.

I told my co-workers the same thing. Maybe the US isn't that far behind the rest of the world as some experts have stated!  Wink

I can remember Croatia in '98 being very happy to beat the Dutch in the 3rd/4th pay-off. The Dutch papers still wrote more about the lost semi final (a week later).

No-one usually cares about the 3rd/4th play off. I remember the last time the Netherlands played it (in '98 against Croatia after we undeservedly lost against Brazil in the semis after penalty kicks). I didn't even watch the match. I'm not sure why the game for 3rd place is not abolished. I know the Olympic people try to get people to believe that the third place is a prize but it's really not.

Germany vs Uruguay in the 2010 Cup was a good game to watch. There are some good games sometimes, and it can be important for selections with less tradition, for example, Portugal, Iuguslavia and Polish Poland.

Simply to get more sales and so they can fill a podium in the olympics
There are three medals to give out and what not so they need to have a third medal match.

Not sure if FIFA had a podium though but it's probably because they had 16 Teams brought it down to 8 and the battle for Third is just tradition.
But feel free to correct me on that not sure of it myself

There isn't a third match playoff for the UEFA European Championship (which over the course of it's existence has been of a higher level than the actual world cup).

I don't know if I feel bad (I don't) that Brazil lost the way that it did, or that it actually has to come back and play in the consolation game on Saturday!  Huh

Yeah, I agree. It will be hard for them to play the 3rd place match, even though they may have a shot at it IMO.

Not really an avid futbol fan but this was awesome!

Germany scored 4 goals in 6 minutes. The last time they blitzed like that, Poland got annexed.

It was the whole approach to the game. The Brazilians didn't bring everything to this match. I mean, just look at the lack of yellow cards.

I think they just lost the will to fight after 20 some minutes in the game
Too many goals at one time although your right It would have been better if Brazil went in fighting to the end
They did start with a strong offensive in the second half but then lost that spirit by the midpoint of it.

I don't understand that at all. After 5-0 make a few big fouls and the Germans will not score anymore.

Without Neymar, it was pretty obvious they had no chance. It wasn't obvious, though, that it would end up so bad.

No, it was not Neymar who was missing, the fifa.com article got it right:

"Most of the pre-match coverage had focused on the impact of Neymar's absence but, once the game got underway, it was clear that Thiago Silva - Brazil's captain and defensive rock - was the man they would miss most. Without him, A Seleção's defending was shambolic, with Germany seemingly able to slice their way through at will."

That's true was going to agree and say yes it was Neymar who was missing that mattered but Herz brought up a good point without Thiago Silva their captain and defensive key player the Brazilian defense was easy to break through and the defense just kept crumbling.

Argentina 0  Netherlands 9

and it would be the funniest world cup in the history  Cheesy  Cheesy

That would scare me I would say what the heck happened here
Although that's already happened once for me today so having two blue moons in a row would be something else
Expecting a normal game guys ! lol
