Be aware of Iran they have good players. Wink

I also predicted that Qatar will wins their opening match. England and Senegal will also win their matches, Croatia will also win their match with Morocco. Why Qatar will win their first leg is that, they have strong defense their midfielders are also good. All the rest predictions you made are very good.

What is your motivation that Qatar will win Ecuador? Is it because they are the host and you think they will be favoured by intimidating home base fans or is it because of the news of bribing that is making wave in the internet?
On a good day me and you know that Ecuador is a better football nation that Qatar.
It is not because they the host but their players are good. Even if Qatar bribed Ecuador we will see it from the players. Qatar will win based on their performances. Though football is a game luck let's see what will happen tomorrow.

The host nation usually play as though they have an extra man on the field because all of the support they receive from local supporters as well as from the neutral fans in the stadium who managed to get tickets for the world cup. That was the reason I edged Qatar over Ecuador. Senegal being AFCON champions would probably have progressed if Mane was in their squad but it has been confirmed he will miss out because of injury therefore their chances of getting past the group stage have dropped.

Even though it's their home tournament i don't really think that Qatar has a chance against Ecuador. The difference in quality in the squads is just way to big in my opinion. That being said i don't really know the players of the team of Qatar. I could imagine though, that Qatar did the same thing with their football team as they did a few years back with their handball team when they also hosted the handball world cup. Back then they "hired" some very good players to play for their national team instead. I don't know if the rules in Handball are less strict but in football a player needs at least some connection to the country that he wants to play for.

For neutrals the competition will always be more interesting if the host nation (especially if they are underdogs) manages to go far in the competition.

This is how I anticipate the group stages ending:

I love it when a host country advances because it always seems so strange to see the host side eliminated so quickly. I hate to say it, but I think Qatar will get special treatment from the referees, they put so much work into making this happen. The sight of them leaving the group stage would be embarrassing. I hope they receive all the assistance they require to at least finish R16. I must be prejudiced in this case.

here is my group stage winner predictions.

Code:
group A.
Netherlands & Qatar

group B.
England & Wales

group C.
Argentina & Mexico

group D.

Denmark & France

group E.

Germany & Spain

group F

Croatia & Belgium

group G
Brazil & Cameroon

group H
Portugal & Korea

With home support I think Qatar will be going through to the next round by qualifying as runners-up in their group. There is a strong chance African nations will be successful with Tunisia, Morocco and Cameroon possibly qualifying either as winners or runners-up but Ghana probably be out at the group stage.

For neutrals the competition will always be more interesting if the host nation (especially if they are underdogs) manages to go far in the competition.

This is how I anticipate the group stages ending:

Group A
winner: Netherlands
runners-up: Qatar

Group B
winner: England
runners-up: Wales

Group C
winner: Argentina
runners-up: Mexico

Group D
winner: France
runners-up: Tunisia

Group E
winner: Germany
runners-up: Japan

Group F
winner: Belgium
runners-up: Morocco

Group G
winner: Brazil
runners-up: Cameroon

Group H
winner: Portugal
runners-up: South Korea

JollyGood I haven't seen your first round predictions yet, or do you not have any?

An interesting prediction.
It seems to me that you have a lot of faith in the strength of African teams. Is it because it is played in very difficult weather conditions that suit African teams more?
Most of the African national teams are unknown to me, so I won't comment on that, but here is my opinion.
I think that in group D, Denmark is definitely a better and more experienced national team than Tunisia and that they have an advantage.
Why do you think that Spain, one of the favorites of the entire world championship, will not even make it to the knockout phase of the competition?
Likewise, why do you think that the world runner-up and current Nations League group winner, Croatia, will not advance to the knockout stage of the competition in Group F?
In Group G, I give Serbia a better chance than Cameroon, and in Group H, Uruguay has a better chance than South Korea.

But I like your odds, I think that can possibly happen

^  Meh..  Everybody should just ignore all the stuff that has nothing to do with the World Cup and enjoy the event for what it really is.  A tourney.  Too many people in the world are taking themselves too seriously these days and want us to take them clowns seriously.  Lol.  No thank you.

Anyway, FJ has a free to play bracket challenge for the WC.  First prize is 20k USD.  Not bad for a free game.  But terms and conditions apply tho, so expect KYC if you win.

One thing is certain: you can never satisfy everyone. When South Africa hosted the tournament, conspiracy theories abounded, and when Russia hosted it, the same thing occurred. It is natural for people to complain when things do not go their way. With the infrastructure in place, I am confident that Qatar will host one of the best tournaments. Alcohol is prohibited, everyone who visits should exercise caution, drink beer only at home, follow the rules, and have fun; there is no harm in doing so.

FJ has another good contest, and since I'm a player, I'll give it a shot. Thank you very much.

Keeping all the drama regarding the accusations of human rights abuses and possible bribery to be awarded the 2022 World Cup, if we get back to the actual business on hand then tournament kicks-off on Monday 21st November 2022 with the Group A game between host nation Qatar and Ecuador.

Here are the group tables:

Oook now that we have that over and done with, what are your bets for the first round of matches?  I really don't know what I'm mostly looking at here so I did a 7 leg parlay with England, Netherlands, Denmark, France, Belgium, Brazil, Portugal at 11.31.  Grin

i hope I get the first few picks in so it gets entertaining towards the end.

Belgium, England, Denmark, Netherland, Germany, Qatar BTS @ 12.3.The first game will most likely be a draw, and I expect both teams to score. Qatar has been building this squad for a long time now, using every resource they have to have the best World Cup ever, so I'm counting on them to score at least once. I won't go into detail about the other teams now, but here are my six picks for the round.

How would boycotting the World Cup help death migrants? What does politics have to do with football, why is everyone acting as if human rights have been violated, and why is the world always playing politics when Asians are involved? The best way to honor those migrants workers is to keep the World Cup going. Politics is suffocating the beautiful game.

There is a chance that the Qatari authorities will offer some compensation to the families of the dead migrants, if there is enough media coverage. From what I heard, hardly any of their family members received monetary compensation. And if you want to keep politics out of sports, then you can't be selective. On one hand, you are banning Russia and Belarus for the Ukraine war, and on the other hand you are saying politics is separate. There seems to be two sets of rules - one for the affluent nations and the other for the less powerful ones.

I don't think those protesting care about any compensation for the families of the deceased migrants; all they care about is that Qatar is unfit to host the World Cup; politics always come into play when it comes to Asians; I didn't like the idea of disqualifying Russia and Belarus and considering giving Iran a slot even after they lost out. FIFA's current president is a disgrace to the game.

The Qataris just don't care. The world needs them, especially with a growing shortage of natural gas and therefore UN or none of the other global bodies would take any action or even criticize them. Some of the current and former players have issued statements criticizing the regime in Qatar for the treatment of migrant workers, but the mainstream media hardly gives any space to them.

^  Politicians always try to find a way to get the lime light and get themselves at the center of attention.  It's like a game for those idiots just to have some sort of show that they're doing they're jobs when they're really not.  They're useless most of the time.  They should just do their own thing, make their money and just leave the people alone.

It's not only having a beer.

There's also the case of the Mexican woman being allegedly raped there while doing preparations for the World Cup, and they want to put her in jail because she had premarital sex...

https://www.nbcnews.com/news/latino/mexican-woman-reported-sexual-assault-qatar-faces-jail-100-lashes-rcna17217

It can't get any more shittier than this. At first I couldn't believe what I read in the NBC News article. But then I remembered that we are talking about Qatar. Rape victims getting punished is very common in this part of the world.

These sort of incidents are very common in the middle east. It is estimated that more than 90% of the female domestic employees working in the middle east get raped by their employers. And if they complain about it, the victims are sent to jail with additional punishment of flogging. FIFA should be blamed for staging such an important tournament in a stone age society.

It is so sad that stuff like that is happening anywhere in the world. Maybe the World Cup brings more media attention to this kind of problems and politicians in Qatar and other countries like Qatar starts to change. Who knows...
