Payment options?

Are you guys considering or planning on adding bitcoin as a payment option? Seems like more and more sites are accepting it. I have been using it for about a year, from a customer perspective it is way easier than paypal, credit cards etc. IMHO.

Thanks,

Fill out their contact form and tell them to support bitcoins as a donation method. They only have paypal right now.

How is it that http://freenode.net/pdpc_donations.shtml  does not accept bitcoins... ??
I wondered that too, I even generated a 1Freenode address for it but never got in contact with them. I guess they would probably want to generate their own address if anything.

Such requests will be massively more powerful if they come with a promise of donation, even very small.

If you get 1000 requests in a day that you accept bitcoins on your site, versus if you get 1000 requests where 100 of them promise a donation of 0.1 bitcoins if they start accepting it, that's a huge difference in impact. Even though the total amount of these promises is only $50 USD, it makes people notice and really think about it if people are saying they want to donate X amount instead of just a request that they add a new feature but no promise.

It is helpful for people to mention that they are willing to donate when they comment to the website.

Sounds like you risc spamming websites.

One letter every week should probably be enough for most small business to make them consider Bitcoin as payment.

Spamming is a mass mailing that comes from one person. Companies often respond that they will only make the change if they hear sufficient demand from a large number of customers.  I suggest one email or contact per person.

I think this is a great idea.

I also suspect it would only take 5 or 10 emails to convince most people to accept Bitcoins.

I suggest targeting businesses who are currently advertising on www.freetalklive.com next.
Most of them will likely be receptive towards Bitcoin.

it was brought to my attention that Stefan Molyneux has even put his btc address here...just never made it to his official donation page.

I dont see a contact form on their website, so leaving a comment in the freedomainradio forum thread is the best way to show your voice now.

I don't think that's a good idea. You're going to end up alienating websites rather than convincing them. Put yourself in their shoes. You have a cause that you are trying to get donations for. It is difficult to get people to give up their money no matter how good the cause. And suddenly you get email bombed with a bunch of requests to accept donations for some sort of imaginary currency that seems at first glance to be a scam. It doesn't matter how convincing they are, you will be off put by them, especially if they are making it more difficult to sort through email that might actually have some importance.

Doing things as a mob may sometimes be effective, but I think it is almost never the right way.

After getting two popular websites to add bitcoins as an accepted form of donation, I am convinced that swarm style requests is effective. In the last few weeks, Juice Rap News and Adam vs the Man  have both added bitcoins as a donation method.

So I propose that we use this thread to take collective action together to make a bigger impact, and I propose our next target should be Stefan molyneux of freedomainradio.  I pick this as the first action because it should be an easy target.  Stefan is himself already a bitcoin enthusiast and has talked about it multiple times on his show in the past. There is no reason why he hasn't added them as an option to his website yet.
