De Jong situation is a lot more about money and not about just Barcelona, because if United offered a lot of money that would mean that Barcelona would have a lot of money room to wiggle on their financial burden as well. This is why I am pretty sure that if United offered 100+ million to De Jong, they could get him without a doubt.
But, as we all know there is really nothing about the current situation that could be considered 100+ million worthy, why would they pay him that much anyway? So all in all, it is at an impasse because United doesn't want to overpay again, and of course Barcelona wouldn't sell unless it is too good to turn down type of offer since they are using him happily.
Barcelona will be more than happy to get ride of De Jong and his salary, especially the money they promised to give him back during covid-19 cut and they are trying to intimidate him to not ask for them.
