Check out fiverr.com there are probably 1000's of professional writers there that can do anything you need for around 5-15$ and if you need any help with website design I guarantee there are even more for that on that site as well. You definitely need to update your website GUI and make it look more approachable to get more people interested in browsing your website, your website is simple so creating a slick design shouldn't be to hard and could be done for pretty cheap.

If content is a main focus, breaking that down into sub topics would probably represent a natural progression.
With content based sites, generally what people are looking for is unique information and knowledge that can be valuable to others.
