Yes, a few people are here to earn through posting, but you know what, I am 50/50 on that, I post a bit for earnings and mostly to help out people to get their answers...

Thanks for making me aware see i thought they made a fair amount of money from them but now i know there is literally 0 reason for them to be here now, maybe one or two so real new people can get the hang of wallets etc but not the hundreds that are out there lol

i agree, faucets are the best way for someone who just wants to test the waters and see how everything works. receive some btc, send it and learn before investing large sums of money.
also the faucet creators don't earn that much money either, only a couple of well known ones which were around for so long. you can check their advertisement prices to see that.

faucets work , however they are way more work than for example signature campaigns , doing actual work etc.
Faucets pay out way to little , and the only guys profiting from them is the people owning them
hell , it prolly takes more electricity and energy from your body to complete those captcha's for the reward that you get

Faucets are pretty much pointless when it comes to earning btc so I'd avoid them unless you want to spend hours earning a few cents.

Sig campaigns pay a bit more but you still have spend your time making the required post counts etc.

Over 20 BTC paid out or $5500 to all Sig holders just for doing what they normally do...

Far from myth. You got signature campaigns, you got faucet sites such as https://www.landofbitcoin.com one of the best free faucet sites to earn from and has some good links in it. Also a good bitocin ptc site is http://www.btcclicks.com too. Both can earn free from and faucet site you can earn a fair share from and then use it to buy rented referalls on sites to increase your earnings.

The best way to earn free BTC is by signature campaigns their the simplest of simple as you get paid for something you are already doing and that is posting on bitcoin talk renting your signature space out to that provider and getting commissions for each post you do that provides exposure for that business and signature campaign.
