Your stealing the coins i have in my wallet now...

Its a wallet with bo custom add coins... So if you use this wallet they just steal your custom tokens

You sent tokens that aren't currently supported in the app to your Freewallet address. Your tokens aren't stolen, you can see them sitting right where you had them sent in the blockchain explorer. As soon as there's a technical possibility and the support of your tokens is added, you will be able to access them in our Token Wallet app.

We strongly recommend contacting our in-app support to make sure the tokens you're planning to send are supported in the app before making a transaction to avoid such situations in the future.

Major scam was started by freewallet.org

Over 7 million stolen from users

Beware.. do not use it for anything

This is the scammers wallets: https://etherscan.io/address/0x11b85b4e2fadaebe04a251377aa35b9be3c785f0

So, how much exactly was "stolen"? And from whom? If you read the original thread on Reddit, you'll see that there's not a single person who actually lost money with Freewallet! The reason our users got worried is because they checked their wallet balances on the blockchain explorer and found out the funds aren't there. However, the address displayed in the app is a so-called "hot wallet" used for receiving transactions. We consider keeping the funds there as well as storing private keys locally a risk because if the access to your device is compromised, it would give a hacker an opportunity to steal your assets.

That is why after our user receives a transaction, the funds are moved to the cold storage. Whenever he/she needs to make a transaction, the funds are transferred from the cold storage as well. Their actual balance is displayed in the app; what people see on a blockchain explorer is most likely an intermediary transfer of funds in/out of the cold storage (and our users aren't charged with any fees for such transactions). That's exactly what it was: rebalancing between different cold storages. Not piping our users' funds to an outside source.

This one is an online wallet. They operate simmillar to an exchange, they don't give you your private keys. If you don't have your private keys you don't control your coins. You are rather trusting a 3rd party with you coins, in this case you trust freewallet.org, that's why it is advised to keep your coins on some clients or even hardware and paper wallets as you have the private key so that you can prove an ownership with your coins.

Just inform yourself what are wallets and which ones to use.

It is funny really, with all the warnings about cold storage on online wallets and there are still people that are amazed and taken, apparently 7 million dollars worth, although the media plays games.

But, you are supposed to have no more than 8% of your total crypto holdings on an online wallet, so that means that the $7,000,000 is nothing, because those same people, following the advice of those that know, have just under $70,000,000 in their software wallet and should be fine, not even cracking a smile and caring that the site stole from them because they have it made it the shade.

Think about it, online Bitcoin wallets is the only group of sites that do not give you the access code to your account(private key).  Imagine that form another currency site and see where they would end up.

I am aware that as a new user I have not much trust to expect.
But I made the stupid misstake and went as well Appstore , installed Etherum wallet by freewallet and did sent a not small amount to that wallet.

Well few days passed and I did not mind, until I wanted to move them out when realized I have no control over Privatekeys. So I sent and the transaction stucked in sending. I checked google and found this thread some on reddit and big warnings. So i was certain I am scammed and could literally punch myself.
After desperately sending support messages, even to the owner via Facebook and reddit and email, I recieved today an mail, to not worry my transaction will soon be canceled and the funds are back in my wallet.

Sure I was like WTF, and than??? Coins are back in a wallet where i cant get them out. Bravo.

Well after the trascation got cancelled, I withdraw again and the coins went through just fine.
I could not really believe when i saw them on the blockchain. That feeling was just to nice.

So all I can say, I got my coins, and I cant imagine a Scam to do me any favor.

Omg such a big money scammed. But i couldn't imagine if someone can scam that large amount..

Since the freewallet.org never heard that site . that is why don't trust other wallet and much better to use well know wallet to be safe..

Every year we see things like this

when will people learn

maybe this will be in the papers tomorrow or something

$7 million stole....so many lives ruined
 Cry

I do not feel pity or anyone who lost money in this scam. I am sorry to say that, but these people are morons.

It is exactly as someone from Reddit said:

"freewallet = bytecoin = minergate = changelly = hitBTC. people were warned for over a year that they are scammers but nobody listens. no pity you fools"

Some people only learn when they experience a loss themselves. There is no other way to cure idiocy.

Why would people use those unknown or unpopular wallets ? Since there are lots of choices on make use of online wallet even those reputable ones aren't too trusted because chances of getting scammed is still there. Sorry for those users who lost up money on using that wallet that would really be painful but this is just really a consequence of being careless.

There are some theories that Minergate is connected to Freewallet, which in turn is connected with Changelly. Changelly is connected with HitBTC, so if that is true, it would make neither of these exchanges/wallets safe to deal with.

Freewallet are saying that it is just an "ordinary planned procedure". I don't know whether to believe them, or not. But their support is certainly active on reddit and actively solving problems as they pop up, and as of now i don't think anyone has actually lost anything to them.

Quote from: freewallet.org support
All user assets are completely safe.

Freewallet operates for more than 1 year on a market and puts safety of users assets as a high priority. Our security team operates top level cryptocurrency multilayer security systems. Since the beginning of operations not a cent of user money was lost.

Freewallet stores funds in a multi-signature cold storage with a bank level security grade. From time to time there are rebalancing procedures between different cold storages and hot wallets. There’s no need to worry, this is an ordinary and planned procedure for cryptocurrency systems.

All user assets are completely safe. We offer more than 14 wallets and all of them are operating fine. Please, reach Freewallet support via in-app chat or [email protected] if you need any assistance.

Thank you for the alarm, it will help others not fall prey to their greed.
As most others pointed out, it is not an wallet but an exchange. In fact, the online wallets who are not providing access to the private key, are not to be trusted to keep large sums of money with.

WTH, are you sure about this?  I have 2 of their freewallet apps literally on my phone right now but thank god they don't hold any funds. I'm going to uninstall them right away just to be on the safe side. Thank you for alerting, appreciate it.

Edit: There is a discussion on reddit about the incident and it seems that their support has replied about the on going accusation.
They say that its all fake news spread by their competitors. I don't believe that statement one bit to be honest, because what does a competitior gain from destroying the image of a free wallet service?

Any evidence to support those claims?

Early today I saw some guy complaining about Freewallet and how his friend was unable to access his wallet with "substantial amount of money", so maybe this isn't just a coincidence?

https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/is-freewalletorg-legit-how-can-the-owners-be-reached-1963748
All the multi-coin wallets are going to shit recently.  This one, BIT.AC, possibly Jaxx (though they're not a web wallet so it's not the same)...

Just goes to show that a lot of people we'd previously thought trustworthy will get worse and worse as more money is involved.  This holds true for all the exchanges which are arguably no longer safe as well.

Solution:  take your coins into a safer wallet like a TREZOR, or ideally cold storage.  HODLing through this crypto craziness is the safest way to do it.  Maybe future regulations on cryptocurrency exchanges and wallet providers will make scams harder.

That's why i didn't use online wallets because you don't have the coins although i have an online wallet, but it is intended for cashouts only. For those who scammed by this online wallet service, i'm sorry for your losses and this will be a lesson for you that you shouldn't trust any online wallet services.
