Hi, Help, I am new and trying to learn. I set up a wallet with Electrum. How do I fund it? I would like to use a debit card. (USD).

You can use Coinbase or Xapo to buy Bitcoins first , but you have to use their wallets as well, and then you can easily send the bitcoins to your Electrum wallet

Just checked no one is recommending to use Xapo. Only mobile verification is needed.
I believe to buy bitcoins with your debit cards, Xapo must be a best option for almost all country people. When I checked last time, the minimum buying amount must be $10, also they are having option for showing prices in your local currency.

Cex.io , paxful, localbitcoin, purse.io are few places where you can actually buy/exchange bitcoin but it will require few time as well as lots of fee. Better option could be coinbase if your card is supported by them. Check their supported country and card list.

It's very easy to buy bitcoins even without any verification (only email verification) will allow you to buy from minimum 25 Euro up to 1000 Euro per day at coinimal.com (now BitPanda). I do all my selling there of my coins. I am also planning to buy there when I will have in mind to buy the coin. I will wait for the price to decrease a bit to buy. But if you want to fund your wallet there is not easier place to buy bitcoins than there.

For this I can assure you 1000% from my personal experience during quite a few months there.

Its not possible that you could  buy bitcoin directly on your Debit card . First you must buy bitcoin on those  exchanges out there then thats the time you could  transfer your bitcoin to your  wallet on electrum. There are lots of exchanges  to choose from  just try  to research. Goodluck

That makes sense. What is a safe place to buy a small amount?

like other have said, you can try localbitcoins.com but still better if you can find a local exchange site, it is far safer than LBC as some users in LBC is scammer. may you tell us which country you are from so we could help you more?

LocalBitcoin is a good place to start for beginner. In fact, you do not need to use card, you can use cash if a trader is near to you. This way, it is safer for you and him (I believe).

If you would like to purchase Bitcoin online with your card, I'd recommend a platform that support your country. Like me, in Singapore, there is platforms like CoinHako which I can trade my Bitcoin safety using my local currency. I would recommend you Coinbase or Bitstamp if you cannot find a local Bitcoin trading company/website that can be trusted. Coinbase and Bitstamp is two of the most popular and trusted Bitcoin exchanges around.

* I have never trade on any of the platform I mentioned.

Try coinbase if you are from US. You can try localbitcoin also. I don't know much where you can use a card to buy bitcoin honestly. Or you could try buying from someone from your local, maybe you guys could meet up in person and make a deal. That'll make things easier and more safe. Cheesy

Nope buddy it's not possible to credit the money from your card to wallet. Try to find good trader in localbitcoins by checking their trust and feedbacks. Please have a trade with them to buy a bitcoin How much you want. Then to them through bank transfer and if you pass the wallet address they will send the bitcoins to you.

You can't fund a bitcoin wallet using USD directly (except for service/exchange wallet). You'll have to buy some bitcoins first then transfer them to your wallet.
