The sample is also taken in already established investors with at least moderate amount of wealth stored in investments.

Still, the rates of bitcoin ownership are extremely low. I'm fairly sure that if you expand the sample to the entire population, the rates of bitcoin ownership will be even lower than the poll suggests, meaning that we're well and truly still in the very early adoption stage.

The main theme here though is that people know about bitcoin, they are interested in it, but don't know enough or don't yet understand the reasons to hold bitcoin. This is a lot of potential, IMO, as all of these people who are interested in bitcoin will most likely take it up as an investment actively sooner or later.

The crypto market has now spread far more than ever. Where new fields have been created, as well as opportunities for the arrival of new coins. I think new coins will really do well. Their ICO and the future will be potential and secure. Which is the good sign of cryptocurrency.

if i recall correctly this poll was conducted back in 2017 which was in the middle of the heat of the rises. so obviously when you asked any investor whether they wanted to own bitcoin they would have said yes. it is in fact surprising that the percentage is low but understandable at the same time because bitcoin adoption is still so low that it can be considered non existent! not to mention all the FUD that keeps trying to push investors away.

Wait what? The article says the survey was conducted in May this year. Or were you referring to a similar survey?

But yeah, I'm kind of interested as to how much these serious investors actually have in Bitcoin, and what would make those who aren't interested to reconsider their stance. Bitcoin still has a huge untapped market for sure, but this survey doesn't paint a very pretty picture of how it is currently doing in the eyes of traditional investors. It just seems like we're stuck in a paradox where we need more adoption to drive more adoption.

If you think that 2% of US investors owning BItcoin presents an opportunity, try asking the same question in India or China. The percentage there will be in decimal points. And these countries have much bigger populations and would be the drivers of growth going forward. Convincing these people to put their hard earned money into Bitcoin won't be easy though.

This is 100% true and as far as I know, statistics in all countries are almost the same. The crypto currency attracts many people and there is still more potential for its growth in the future.

Oh my God ; wonderful information.  Such a large number in USA population does not knowing about bitcoin.  I was of the view that every body in developed nations will be well known to crypto or atleast bitcoin.  But it's just opposite to my opinion.
I thought that people in third world or developing nations only do not know about crypto.
So I think it's good news too for bitcoin and other cryptos.  Slowly the people  are coming in the fold of crypto / bitcoin fold; so definitely the inflow in the crypto / bitcoin market will increase in the years to come.
So bright chances for crypto world.

2% of people who already have invested over $10,000, so presumably an even smaller percentage of people who have invested less than that or have no investments at all.

There is certainly the potential for a lot of new money, but I think we are looking at 10+ years until we get some semblance of widespread adoption.

The results of a Wells Fargo/Gallup poll published July 27 finds that only two percent of U.S. investors own Bitcoin, but 26 percent are intrigued by it.

The online survey was conducted May 7-14, 2018 amongst  U.S. investors with more than $10,000 in stocks, bonds or mutual funds. The results show that the overwhelming majority of investors who have already heard of Bitcoin will not be investing in the leading cryptocurrency any time soon, with 72 percent saying they “have no interest in ever buying Bitcoin.”

According to the data from the poll, even though 96 percent of investors had heard of Bitcoin, “only about three in 10 investors (29%) say they know something about digital currencies,” with 67 percent saying they have heard of them but don’t know much about them.

Even though the initial intention behind Bitcoin involves its use as a means of payment, or “electronic cash”, it’s high volatility has made it “more popular as a high-risk/high-reward investment than as an online currency — although acceptance of Bitcoin for electronic payments is growing.” The results of the survey show that 75 percent of respondents view an investment in Bitcoin to be “very risky,” with 23 percent saying it was “somewhat risky.”

There is potential for a lot of new money to come into cryptocurrency.
