With that mentality is very difficult not just to gamble responsibly but actually to do anything in life other than failing over and over until a decision to take the reins of your life is taken. Some people have traumas and problems and it is much more difficult for them to self-control and to be self-aware of what they are doing. But I would say most people are either unwilling to progress or to lazy to do so.
That last statement, either unwilling or lazy to do so, I agree to that point, there are many gamblers who thinks that they are still in control and thinking that they are still doing the right thing, not realizing that they are already engage too much, and they can't stop playing even they already losing a lot.
True that, in some point of my gambling session, I am planning to stop my gambling session but eventually continues because of greed. If we are able to control our greed and be contented on what we win, then I believe we have more chance of easily controlling our gambling session.

Not much of a strong will but we need to prioritize things and get rid of greed. Greed is what makes us continue wagering even if we are on the green. Get rid of greed then we stop chasing losses and chasing wins.
