Gambling addiction will always be a menace if you ask me around the world. The desire to earn money quickly in a short span of time makes people get addicted to gambling and usually produces negative results leading to bad consequences.

Self-control matters the most while gambling when compared to other factors basically.
People who think about making quick money gambling should think again because they won't always be able to make it. They might lose a lot especially if they don't have good self-control. We may have experienced it and seen other people's experiences but don't let ourselves have to experience it because it will cost all the money. But if someone is willing to listen to other people's advice for his own sake, it will be a fortune for him because he can be saved and cured of gambling addiction.
Yes, it's not right to make fast money by gambling, meaning that person doesn't understand the process of making real money, in the process of working alone there needs to be a process of time, energy and thought, but people think that by gambling all the money can be obtained quickly, that's what I consider it as a lazy person, gambling only costs money if you can't control it.

Many people cannot control themselves when they play gambling and instead of looking for fast money there are only spending money fast, that's why I never considered playing gambling as a source of my income but as a place for me to have fun in it, but it all comes back to mind each.

Have you meet gamblers that are going way too deep into addiction and you try to stop them and they listen? I've never accomplished that before.
Most, if not all, of the people I know who engage in gambling are open to constructive discussions. I am proud to say that I do not have anyone close to me who struggles with gambling addiction. Advising individuals with compulsive gambling can be challenging, and they should seek counseling from professionals. It is important to prioritize our own well-being, starting with a healthy mindset. Remember to gamble responsibly.

Have you meet gamblers that are going way too deep into addiction and you try to stop them and they listen? I've never accomplished that before.

They always behaved deaf, like some spiritual power is in control.
I have never met a gambling addict, maybe because my community is not a gambler so I have never met gambling addict friends.
This power is because they don't realize that they are already addicted, especially if they are still able to continue to fulfill their gambling desires because they still have money. Usually they will realize when their finances start to be disturbed or when people around them are also disturbed by their gambling activities, but as long as they can still get money to gamble, it is very difficult to realize and start looking for help to get rid of this addiction.

It's easier to get addicted to online gambling, but I recently met someone who said that he isn't even aware that he was an addict until his blood brother told him that he is going too deep into gambling.

He said that he screamed to him to wake up scarily, he said his brother is his savior, but I replied to him that he is someone who listened, most gambling addicts that I have came across have closed ears, they won't listen to you when you try to warn them or advice them.

When I saw the topic I was expecting to see new medical research from one or more of these top universities that links deafness to gambling addiction. I didn't know OP was insinuating that gamblers don't take or listen to advise because they have lost control and are under the influence of a strong habit.

Each time I meet with young gambling addicts, I always counsel them on the need to gamble responsibly. Many of them will look sober and promise me after swearing with heaven and earth that they will never engage in gambling as full-time employment again. But 95% of these youths will still go back to gambling. Some women have threatened to divorce their husband if he keeps gambling with almost all their income, yet they will still secretly go back to gambling. It is not deafness, pathological gambling is related to the brain reward system triggered by the release of dopamine.

it is not His brother that saved Him but His own desire to stop addiction , its just His brother is the key.

I thought at first from your topic title that the individuals had physical deafness until I read the entire message and this is why I decide to comment since the title is misleading because there is a difference between ear deafness and not listening to advice and I think in this situation you have over-emphasis and push too much.

But all the same,  you are right when you said those who are addicts are not aware or simply overlook their gambling excessiveness but another person can easily notice that.

Yeah I thought the same things too

yeah gambling is very high addictive even do trade on futures just exactly like gambling, especially without proper knowledge, tho quit is also hard.

Today I do gambling but with no real money only using some chip from game and play for slot  Grin Grin is still fun tho

Yes, definitely whether it’s gambling or any other addiction, if we advise them to leave it, they don’t listen us, until and unless we gave them a reality check. We warn them about the adverse effect that is causing due to this addiction, but still they surely behave like deaf and hence do their own harm. Gambling addiction takes, when they think they have chance to win, but often losses. And these types of addiction seen only from people who is rich. Poor people can’t afford to get addicted.

That title confused me to be honest with you op. I thought you meant ear deafness in the literal sense here. Anyway, I don't have any friends who cannot control their gambling addictions since they don't really wager much.

However, I know how difficult it is to control your gambling addiction based on my personal experience. It can get really, really scary sometimes.
Also thought this way but it turns out to be different.
Well, gambling addiction can cause a lot of stress and might trigger sickness as well. If your friend are more responsible in gambling then its good but if you have a friend who are still struggling and their situation slowly becoming worst, better to help them as early as possible. Addiction is not a joke, and you should treat this seriously at all cost.
I support addiction is never a joking issue, only someone who has been in this problem would truly understand how devastating the habit can be. Although I don't about it causing deafness but it can cause serious mental trauma and can leave the victim stupendously stranded on his mistakes and regrets. So if anyone is actually addicted to gambling and you know this, helping him can go a long way to saving his remaining financial life because an addiction is not something that should be ignored.

Oh, so you meant ear deafness as a metaphor and not literally the actual physical disease?

Well, the problem with most addicts is that they only listen to themselves. They have their own logic that they try to rationalize in their heads. They also attempt to justify their actions even if they know that what they are doing is already detrimental to their mental and physical health, yet they still continue to feed their addiction by succumbing to eat.

I really believe that in order to combat any addiction, the person must be very determined to help himself/herself in order to get out of that kind of environment.

I thought this is physical deafness because honestly, there isn't any medical basis for that to happen. Anyway, if the gambler is consumed so much by their gambling habits that they no longer listen to reason, they should seek assistance with a professional for intervention, not just family and friends. Those guys can only do so much, but unless the gravity of the situation is presented to these gambling addicts, they won't really understand that what they're doing is damaging and detrimental.
Seeking professional help would be better. Indeed you may follow what others are telling you 'coz in the first place addiction is alarming. However, it won't be aided by just listening to the right thing to do. Professionals will give you steps on how to overcome addiction with basis and not just by mere opinions. Addiction is a serious state of mind, which requires thorough attention. On the ssme instance, the individual seeking for help could run into them with assurance of no judgements. There are also different approaches in order to overcome addiction and professionals will simply be able to tell which would work better for you. All it takes is to have an initiative of helping oneself.

I also thought it was that natural deafness so I checked the thread of the possible reason why gambling addiction can cause ear deafness.  Now I realized that I was click baited into ready this thread, and the deafness @OP telling is the decision of the player to ignore people making them look like deaf while they are engaged in gambling.

I am ignoring the misleading title and just answer to this.

There's nothing spiritual about it. Getting trough to an addict doesn't happen by screaming, it happens by listening and conversation, but if you really want to have an effect, maybe organize intervention with closest friends and talk with the addict. But have your basis covered and learn about gambling addiction before doing that. Because shouting only drives the addict away from your influence. That could make them just hide deeper in themselves.

~snip~
^ I agree with you and that is definitely right.
There is nothing spiritual about reaching out to an addict. It is not about shouting or forcing them to change their ways.
True progress happens when we approach addicts with empathy, compassion, and genuine understanding because for me, it is about actively listening and engaging in meaningful conversations. We know on that stage of addiction, a gambler should be on especially treatment like a psychiatrist that only they have the ability to understand this kind of person who has been in a gambling addiction.

I had the same idea. I thought he'd cite some pseudoscientific article claiming that gamblers become deaf.

It's like OP is trying to take one of the old topics and add a twist to it so it doesn't look the same because we've already had several articles asking why gamblers don't want to change, but this is the first time that I see someone ask why they don't listen to advice and come to a conclusion that they could be deaf Cheesy

They don't listen for the same reason why a drunkard keeps drinking even though he's at the bottom, sleeping in a park.
The ops need to edit the thread to include a more clear term in the topic since there is no physical deafness in this argument rather than that it was just an exaggeration of the term and this could cause a misleading understanding of the topics but then it indeed the characteristic of gambling addicts not to listen to anyone but that doesn't mean that there have cases of ear deafness rather the developed a thick skin not to listen to anyone when their advice them on their gambling escapades.

But in the long run,  reading the entire piece will give more understanding of what the ops want to point out in clearer terms.

There are also ton of peer support groups in the internet, there were even some peer support threads here in bitcointalk if i recall correctly. Point the addict to those, he might even enjoy talking with people who understand them and are not screaming to them, but work as cautionary examples.

And needless to say on top of those, professional help gives you best results.

Just like many types of addiction, a person who is an addict usually doesn't want to hear an advise.
They think they know what they are doing and they don't want to hear anything about what they need to do.
But if you have a close friend, or family who needs help, as much as possible, try to assist them to see what is really going on with their life.
Most of the time, they are blind to see what gambling is doing to their self or to their family.
This is why you need long patience when you deal to a person with such problem. Try to look for the root cause why he went that way.

What happens is that when someone is addicted they are in denial, they do not want to admit what is happening to them as it is too painful to do, since they know that if they finally admit they have a problem then they will have no other choice but to confront it, so in their minds it is preferable to deny they have a problem, however things get so bad that no matter how much they may try to deny it at some point they will have no other choice but to admit they have a huge gambling addiction problem and face it head on.
