I saw a news today about a person who decided to end his life after losing around 150K in a single bet, the person is an average middle class with a wife and baby and his annual income will be around 40K (max) then why on earth he decided to bet that big amount on a single bet. It's evident that his greed forced him to take such decision but as a result he lost the life and leaving the loved ones stranded. What's your take on this matter?
Damn thats tragic. Probably he is desperate already to win, its either the game is a 50/50 chance to win and his aiming to win the money he bet easily but turns out not gone his way. Of course everyone would be shock to lose that kind of amount, even me if I lose that huge would know what to do but not to the point that I take my life. Im worried on the part that he has family how about them, the guy didnt think about what happened to them.

This is what excessive and uncontrollable gambling can cause, how on earth will a gambler that has control over the event his into take such a dangerous move, people do forget something's once they involve themselves in gambling, it is too bad, gambling is in a way that one should even understand that it is not a do or die affair, you don't gamble with the mindset of not losing, it is a no no mindset for me, so why will someome with such annual income decide to make such a financial mistake all in the name of doubling or trippling his money what a financial recklessness, sometimes most news about financial reckless in regards to gambling baffles me, so do this kind of people really think from the right side of their brain or do they just do this things because of the greed that occupy their mind, though addiction isn't a joke but this addiction is as a result of individual gambler failing to understand what gambling is and what it can do to individual menatal health if not carefullly handled, just imagine what this person has cause his loved ones, it is a pity, this cases of addicrion should teach gamblers lesson not to go too extreme to avoid considering taking some unnecessary decisions.

Again and again, this is the umpteenth case of someone taking a dead end by committing suicide to end the suffering due to their mistakes when gambling, they are too brave to take risks but are unable to accept the consequences of the risk itself.
Addition to the greed factor, there are also those who are pressed for needs and to enrich themselves and most gamblers with this approach always fail, everyone who sees and reads news like this can take the positive side where they get the awareness that gambling beyond their abilities and not being able to accept losing money is mistake that must be avoided.

Nobody can confirm whether this story is true or not without the link to the actual story. It also lacks details. What was he betting on, by the way?

It seems it wasn't simple greed that made him do that. It looks like he made the decision because he was confident. Probably it was a low-risk low-return bet. So, the way to make a good profit is to bet big. He could have gambled on sports betting, choosing a huge favorite to risk his savings on. Or perhaps on the likes of dice, setting the chances very high to be safe.

The lesson is that if we only invest in Bitcoin what we can afford to lose despite it having a solid track record as far as ROI is concerned, how much more to gambling, right?

Simple. Hope. He has a baby and probably needs money. What could possibly be the easiest way to earn big money other than gambling? It is possible it just did not happen to him sadly.

Is there anything to say? We already know that gambling this much amount is a bad idea. We do not know his entire situation. Maybe he was already suffering from an addiction and depression. One does not give up on life that easily unless he has been beaten down by life already before this. I send my thoughts and prayers to the wife and the child.

Sharing a link would be nice but anyways, losing a $150,000 on a single bet when you're earning $40,000 annually surely is a big hit towards the gambler. What's even worse is that he has a family to support with and now, he decided to leave them FOREVER.

Quite unfortunate, but for me, hearing stories like this especially if it's a gambler is becoming a norm already. I mean there are some gamblers out there who are spending way more than they can afford to lose hence, reaching to a point where they will just take their life because they can't handle it anymore. What's my take? Hmmm, I guess more of this will happen in the future. Many gamblers will be taken by their emotions. Many gamblers are greedy enough to take their life when they lost a huge amount just like what happened with the OP has shared.

Why did the gambler put it on a single bet? Maybe because he lost too much already and he want to recover it all on a single bet, hence, doing that thing.

If his annual income is only $40k per year why did he gamble with such a large amount of money? Isn't that almost 4 years of his income which means it is his savings. It is really stupid if he wants to double his assets, he should not gamble but invest in stocks or gold so that he can get profit gradually, if he gambles he can get rich in an instant but if he is not lucky he will also be poor in an instant too, the fact that he committed suicide and left his wife and children already reflects that he is someone who cannot take responsibility.

As said news you should have also dropped us a link to read through too because the official source narrating of such sadden stories could help next victims planning to take such decision of taking their own lives too.

Regarding that this has not become something new, we still don't have to look away from it because all lives worth to live. Especially such with responsibilities of families and children taking their own lives at the course of frustration and shame of being indebted or loosing their life savings at the course of chasing riches in gambling.

Let it be reminded that taking your own life is not the best decision because who stays alive and effortlessly strives on making good changes are potential to overcome those challenges. Just matter of time.

These recent and past suicidal events of gamblers taking their lives should serve the rest a big warnung to always bet what is affordable to loose because no amount of money is worth a life.
I feel pity for the deceased family.

Something is strange here, how can a person bet 150k in just a single bet? While he is earning 40k annually can he earn the 150k in working for almost 4 years?!!!
This is not normal anymore; it's like he bet his whole life on just 1 single bet, and it ended badly, this is already out of control and the worst loss I ever heard based on the bettor's situation not unless he can earn that 150k in just a few days/weeks like it's just cents for him to lose it.

It’s very hard to get over with this kind of loss since this loss is almost 4 years gross salary and probably he saves this for more than a decade of work since he has other expenses for his family.

This guy probably experienced minor losses then get greedy on chasing his lose quickly that turns out to become a disaster loss. I experienced this kind of feeling during my newbie days using the money I earned on crypto investments that was supposed to be a year of my salary at work.

It’s very hard to cope but I manage to find way to recover through another series of investments on crypto and avoid gambling for a long time.

We should get rid of the foolish lifestyle. Why do some people have the wrong view of their most precious life? Gambling is an art form, once you start abusing it, it will throw you out of the circle. Gamblers should continue their activities for fun by applying their own strategies and placing small bets every time. If greed in you is excessive and the main purpose of earning is to earn money, then it will definitely wreak havoc in your life.

You have seen many cases in the news where people commit suicide or become mentally disturbed and because of these people, others have a negative perception of gambling. Actually, when you gamble, it should be that you do not bet a large amount of money. Your mindset should be that you are going to lose in this bet and spread it in other bets in small amounts.

Unfortunately, this behavior is very common among gamblers. Wherever you go in the world, you will meet a gambler like this. Something similar happened in my country (Turkiye) recently( Maybe 15 or 20 days ago) . A boy who gambled away the money his father had sent for the treatment of his sick mother (cancer) committed suicide. When the ambition of people combined with gambling addiction only one result will appear; destroyed lifes. Not only one person's life and his/her relatives will affected by it.

Greed is a powerful force that can lead to impulsive and destructive decisions in gambling. This person was certainly driven by greed and possibly the illusion of a big win. He gambled a significant amount that far exceeded his annual income (almost 4x what you reported) due to an irresponsible decision combined with a lack of financial management and an inadequate understanding of the risks involved.

Obviously, this decision created an unsustainable financial situation and the financial pressure combined with the shame and regret may have been too much for him to bear, leading him to this extreme decision. The worst part is that this is not an isolated case. I think I have read at least 5 or more reports of similar situations, all from people with wives and children.

However, the warning is always about the importance of responsibility and risk management in gambling. We should always play only with money that we can afford to lose without compromising our financial obligations and personal responsibilities. Greed and the illusion of quick gains can lead to irrational and disastrous decisions like this one that sometimes end tragically.

What's your take on this matter?
The gambler got desperate, because the loss of a single bet resulted in the income he would have to work almost 4 entire years to recover. Moreover, he had a family to sustain. Those could be the savings to be used for the educational future of his baby, besides the welfare of his wife. And we don't know if he had already lost further amounts of money before placing the 150,000$ bet.

Potentially, the answer is positive, considering to place a bet of such size is a clear demonstration of a final and desperate move by him in order to recover previous losses and return to the game in a good shape. He saw no exit for the trouble he got into and did what he did... That is very unfortunate, because if he had cooled down his head and thought about the matter in a more rational way he would have found an alternative.

40,000$ annual income isn't bad, and with proper management he could overcome the losses in some years, while treating the gambling addiction and compulsion.

If you had dropped a link to this story, it would have been much better but this is not the first I have heard of this scenario, in my country last year, a man borrowed money to gamble and he lost everything with high expectations that he would win so he could pay back his debt but his hope was dashed and he committed suicide. The post has its link on this platform and if I come across it I would edit this post and put it here. I believe over expectations, disappointment, and the money used in gambling cause all these sad news after failed games.

Sometimes, people who take such a risk to gamble such an amount of money must have gotten the wrong advice or information which led them to use such an amount of money to gamble with high expectations and when they end up losing, they get frustrated and commit suicide leaving their families to pay back the debt they took for gambling.

That is gambling though, maybe it will be good if you provided the link so that we can have more thoughts on what the man gamble that hug amount of money in a single bet, what kind of games it is because I don't understand that someone will go all in a single bet when everything is on the line. And most likely he can't take that big L that's why he decided to take his own life.

Just very unfortunate and sad news to hear because of what he has left. Obviously, any gamblers take here is that we shouldn't do this, there will be other ways to survived in this life even if we lost everything in gambling. And for those who are in the same predicament, we should just think that there will be always a solution. I know it's hard to quit gambling, but it could be a good start if we lost big money.

He's addicted, he's greedy and he's lost a lot. And that's why it took me to lose 150k in total because he thought that he'll recover that. This is another sad news. Every gambler should have a budget on how much max loss they can have. Because if not, we'd be insane and we will never recover the amount that we've lost already. That's why if you're up for it, you'll never get to the end point of it because the loss will be having on top of it with another loss. It feels bad whenever there are news like this. To the addicted gamblers there, don't waste your life.

People often find themselves in a choice, the potentially better life is achieved with financial problems, or the uncontrollable emotions bring the desire of a better life. The decision of the amount is not only the risk but the desire that can come from the necessity to effect the change in the short period of time. However, when it comes to result missing one feels desperate especially until one feels that he or she has lost direction. This proved that due to life’s pressure one can take risky decisions and do not look at the consequences. Such things prove that even a minor mental or emotional pressure can alter choices made and people should not dwell alone as they are never alone in struggling.

How can one use his 4 years salary to bet on a single bet? That's absolutely crazy. This is reason why we are constantly reminded/warned not to gamble with our life's savings, to gamble only with what we can afford to lose. In this case I cannot tell if it was greed or addiction but this is a warning to us all to look before we leap. There are decisions we'll take that does not only affect us but also our dear ones.
Do not make such conclusion. The OP does not included any link and we can not just completely go for what he posted. I think he did not lost the money at once. He will start with some amount of money and lose. He will want to recover the loss and continue to gamble but lost more money until the money were all spent on gambling.

Only a retard would do that and end his life, you are making paycheck to paycheck and decided to bet it on a gamble? He's probably not thinking straight during that time and ending his life wasn't the answer considering it's all just a money. This is madness and people need to wake up that gambling isn't the only key to take risks on something especially if that's the lifeline of your family.
