After spending several months and years just to save up an amount that could have helped him in the future after retirement, he just woke up one morning and allowed his greed to control him.

The reason why the person took his own life was after thinking and checking out where they would start from after losing such an amount to gambling. All I could say to this situation is that the person allowed himself to be controlled by their own greed.

I saw a news today about a person who decided to end his life after losing around 150K in a single bet, the person is an average middle class with a wife and baby and his annual income will be around 40K (max) then why on earth he decided to bet that big amount on a single bet. It's evident that his greed forced him to take such decision but as a result he lost the life and leaving the loved ones stranded. What's your take on this matter?

In my humble opinion, someone who decided to take their own life after suffering a gambling loss had already an history of suffering from mental illnesses and they were never supposed to step into a casino in the first place. Someone who is mental stable and suffer such a huge loss would not try to end their life as a first option, they would try to find more money to chase their losses.
I am not a doctor, but it is very likely this was a poor man who suffered from anxiety, depression and other undiagnosed problems, and decided to cope with all of it by partaking in gambling and going big in his bets/wagers.
Regardless of what he suffered from and what he did, I hope he is in a better place now, where he cannot longer suffer. 💔

We can't really judge that person who took his own life because we don't know the desperation or depression that he was going through. Someone close to him or his immediate family member should have seen his unusual behavior. However, most of the time, it is already too late for them to know what he was dealing with. Also, some won't care up until the person was already gone.

First, I actually feel sorry for the children and wife who became victims, yes they are the real victims of this incident, they have to accept the bitter reality of:
- losing a husband, and a father figure.
- confusion about the income they must still have for them to live
- Sadness, shame, and of course anger mixed into one
- Can cause trauma to children, and, fear is bullying from their environment due to the stupidity of her husband,

hopefully this does not happen.

the point is, whoever it is, please! don't be greedy and don't expect to get rich from gambling to be able to multiply your money in an instant!

this is another lesson for us, that we must be much calmer, more realistic, and also strong in our stance when entering the world of gambling, yes, it is mandatory to have risk management and also stable emotions so that bad things like that don't happen.

You need to include the currency on the figures you posted so that we can at least have a basic idea of how much the money is worth, remember 150k may be a lot of money in my country whereas a small amount in other countries depends on the economic realities and rate of local currency values.

No amount is too big enough to worth taking one life for and, the guy who lost that money and took his own life may be suffering from some mental illness that is different from gambling addictions, maybe he also drugs if not a sane gambler will continue to gamble when you have lost a lot ready.

There are so many threads about people who committed suicide after losing huge amount of money in gambling and just like we deliberated on those threads, it can be depression, using money that do not belongs to them to gamble, accumulating large debts just to fund their gambling and many other reasons but one advice that is always given to every gambler is to gamble responsibly. No need to take a loan to gamble or money that does not belongs to you or go extra length to get money just to gamble. Gamble with the little as you can such that when you lose it won't cause emotional problems to you.
Imagine earning 40k and using 150k to gamble isn't that stupidity? Now, he has made his wife become a widow and their baby become fatherless just because of careless and reckless gambling. I weep for some people who act like they don't care about people around them without knowing the stigmatization they can cause those people with the kind of blind decisions they choose to take as a result of the situation they find themselves. Whatever circumstances that surrounded the decision he took, taking his life is not the best because he has now caused more terrible situation for himself and his family.

Suicide is not the solution to gambling loss, shame, and guilt. It is a selfish thing that leaves your family pained and hurt. Your family will always love you despite making stupid decisions and that is not the worst crimes in the world. Gambling addicts should seek help. Gambling addicts should not be stigmatized. There are other ways out.

I wonder how people think in myopia about what live entails in its entirety and how people have taken suicide for granted. My warning to myself and everyone else is never to think suicide as an option to expressing one's pain over a misfortune. Taking your soul all by yourself is the worse thing you could ever do to yourself and it will cost not only you the pain but the family you left behind. So it is never an option towards running from your problems or inactions.

This is more than addiction because how will he use almost 4 years of his annual income on a single bet. Did he think that it was a sure bet? Greed was what made him commit suicide, and this should be a lesson for gamblers that thinks there is a sure bet somewhere. Addiction might also be the cause of his wreckless action. No one should put the blame on gamble.

Exactly. Greed overing around him. If not for greed, no one will result into taking such a monumental risk on a single bet. I have a principle towards life. I don't expend a bill I cannot afford to repay with my earnings in a short time. I spend within my means and take loans within my means having known clearly what I earn and the capacity I have to pay back my debts.

This is the problem with some people, they always gamble above their means, if you don't have your personal business or if you are not if you are not financially stable you are not supposed use more than 5 to 10 percent of what you earn monthly to gamble because anything can happen, any money that goes into your bet account can be lost. It's quite unfortunate that he committed suicide leaving his family behind. One thing we must learn to do in life is to face the consequences of our actions, it's going to be hard to correct such huge mistakes but killing yourself isn't the way out of it.

Not surprising or shocking on which this could really that happen on someones life but its not really that just right on taking up your life because of money. Somehow its really that easy to say but when you are on such difficult situation on which you have exhausted or bust up all the money you do have then you will be thinking up on having that suicide to solve out the problems specially if you have that spend up all the savings you do have because you've been believing that you can make money or be able to cope up all that you have lost on it and which we know that the odds is really that against us knowing gambling on which house do always win at the end and there's no way that you can be able to assure yourself that you will be that included into the positive side of things. It is really just that what makes us desperate whenever we are on such condition. This is why its really that important that you do really know on what you should be gonna doing at the moment that you do get involved with gambling. Never ever spend up on the amount that you cant afford to lose, because at the moment that you do go outside within those limits then you are bounding on facing up that huge issue or problems on which it might lead up to suicide if you do find yourself not be able to resolve out such issue or problems.

I think that this is a stupid and ill-considered act, one family member managed the general budget without consulting with others, as a result, he left them with problems that they will have to solve for many years. It is surprising that having many factors that should have stopped him, this is his family and children, he still made such a choice. And yes, I would like you to add a link to this news, maybe there are some other things that happened in this story.

The main reason for spending that much for gambling is either the ones who's doing it is addicted to gambling and on other hand it's someone's greed that forces  a person to go for a huge bet and such bets mostly end up as losses. However, someone who's really lucky will win even such high value bets.

I feel Sorry for the family. For someone to bet such an amount on a game
They have thought it true
Go hard and make it or end it all
I wouldn't be surprised if they were on a debt and believe this would end everything and may grant a fairy like ending.
Sigh, Now he's free but the family ain't
Again why addiction is something to be careful about and seek assistance on.

My take on the matter is that it is depression that led to his suicidal ideation and him eventually killing himself.

Gambling loss is inevitable however in the cases that I have read of gamblers committing suicide it has been that there was a co-occurring mental health issue before it. The man or woman who does this is usually, single, lonely, experiencing other lives dilemma. Blaming it solely on gambling losses is incorrect. What is the state of their mental health even though outwardly the look like they got everything going on for them. They can even have family crisis and at the edge of a divorce from their spouse. There are other factors involved aside a gambling loss.

Its a pity that he thought of all hope being gone and then commit suicide instead of taking up the challenge to learn on how he could possible make refund for the money, this will also serve a lesson to many of us, who can use other peoples fund in our care to gamble, am not also pleased with eh way he left behind his wife and child just because of his own stupidity he could have waited to pay for the price of what he did than leaving and outing his family in jeopardy.

People are too quick to react in a bad way when they lose money that they can't be able to pay back or take the reality that they lost that huge amount of money. Committing suicide doesn't solve any problem because while you're gone out of this world, you have your family still in the world to take all the blames for your actions because they'll have to pay for the losses assuming the money was borrowed. And if the money wasn't borrowed but it's yours, why are you taking your life when that money can be made back. Suicide shouldn't be an option for us and we can avoid being in this situation by gambling in a responsible manner, don't over stake money that we can't avoid to lose because we are going to lose at some point when gambling and don't believe anything that others tell you about a game being guaranteed for success, only believe in your own self.

Although you didn't provide the link of this story but from your content, I think he gambled under pressure because he might have something he wanted to use big money for so then he decided to gamble because he believe that gamble can provide the amount he needed to sort what he wanted.
If he gets 40k from salary, gambling 150k is not reasonable for a responsible gambler because that's a huge amount for him and he can not afford to risk it. Wish the link was provided would have known if he wagered all of them at ones or gradually.

There have been warning for people to always gamble within their means and not gamble above their weekly, monthly or yearly income at a straight bet. It's always advisable to gamble with the amount that they can afford to lose than gambling with such huge amount, knowing too well that gambling is a game of luck and chances which we can't define the outcome to be true or false.
This case would also serves as another warning to people who allows greed to control them over their gambling activities.

What's your take on this matter?

We do not know what is behind this story. Maybe he already had gambling debts or for other reasons and that was the reason for the high single bet. Someone who has a good life and a comfortable financial situation does not suddenly go crazy and gamble everything he has and more on a single bet. There could be mental problems behind it, drug problems, etc. Without knowing more we can only speculate.

He had thought and high imagination made him fall into a black hole. Maybe his imagination that he would win and the amount of money he won would make him realize what he had been holding back all this time.

Since this issue we do not know the type of gambling, then my opinion about this issue, he was too stupid for himself. The stupidity may be that he did not understand the type of gambling being played. The other may be that he had surrendered to the conditions between finances and needs. Or he was too greedy with his lust.
