I missed forum down time, but I am getting a lot of this gateway errors in last few days, and many cloudflare boxes to check in, pages sometimes load very slow so I guess there was another round of ddos attacks towards bitointalk forum.

Those who got it earlier said the forum wasn't responding for 3hrs 8mins and now the whole problem has been resolved (I pray so). When it happened I thought something must have happened to my account or it has been hacked or something, that experience got me scared. I wish for that Gateway Timeout never get to happen again.
No need for you guys to start beating yourselves with words.

Forum was down for ~25 min.
I thought it was more than 25 minutes. The error message started around 7am or 8am in my local time zone and it ended about 10am in my local time zone again, so the downtime of the forum server as of 19 of May 2023 was more that 25 minutes because this downtime was the longest ever since when I entered the forum. This is making two times I have seen this. If I am not mistaken late last year, the same error message appear to users and users were complaining the same thing at that time.
All what I am saying here is that the downtime was more than 25 minutes from my timing.

It's clear you didn't read his last post before commenting because the 25 minutes you quoted and ranting with repeated words was posted 1 month ago. Next time, read the posts that came before you before you post.

check the date of this thread and the post of TryNinja. this thread was created last month when a 504 error occurred, I also replied what could be the possible reason for the error that had happened that time.

Till 2018 if the forum was down the official Bitcointalk Twitter handle would provide the reason and update about the situation. Why was it stopped? A tweet from it could have prevented this panic. I mean two topic on the same issue on this board.

Gateway time-out Error code 504
This time it was down for all of us for more then 3 hours and we have these new threads coming up but if you search for similar one in the past you will find many if individuals have faced this error on their end due to any reasons. So we should not panic as speculation was of DDOS attack but everything seems normal now.

I think it was down for about 3 hours and few minutes if am not mistaking, but the one that occur in April this year was what i don't think i really noticed or got much attention like this, since it does not last long, it may happens to be when one was not online, bit all for good it does not stayed long.
Yes. This time it was three hours and eight minutes (According to LoyceV) and many of us notice that because of the duration. I did not knew when last time it happened. I didn't knew it happened in April as well. Probably because I wasn't active when it went down. Since it was ~25 minutes (According to TryNinja), a few percentage of people notice that. But Yeah, I assume this is the biggest down in terms of duration.

You're quoting a post I made 1 month ago.
This time the forum was down for 3h 30min: https://status.ninjastic.space
Look how stupid I am. I did not notice the date  Grin. Ninjastic data and LoyceV's data giving different down duration? He said it was down for 3 hours and eight minutes. But, Yours data says forum was down for 3h 30minutes.

Speaking of twitter handles, can someone alert theymos that Mr. Doge Twit is planning to delete all accounts that haven't been active for 30 days, so that he can at least periodically log inside @bitcointalk account?

LOL! Mr. Doge Twit Grin, one of the best way to define a twat who became a billionaire with a few good ideas. Everyday he comes up with a weired idea using a new Cannabis. That idea might have erupted in his brain when he consumed one.

It was down for at least two and a half hours. Maybe you did not notice the starting time.

It was down for at least two and a half hours. Maybe you did not notice the starting time. I thought theymos working on the Imgur image issues since he created the poll about fixing it. I did not visit any old thread yet that contains old Imgur Images. I will check right after posting this.

Oh, I just checked some old images, and it seems nothing has changed. So no, it wasn't theymos. I have faced this issue before, but that did not last for more than a few minutes. Moreover, others said they could access the forum and did not face any problems. But, this time, it was global and lasted more than a few hours. theymos might want to share what happened.

There's more possibility that he will talk about it sooner, i can see about two threads already created on this on Meta and I believe some may still come up with their own later while they are yet to know that the forum is back already, i would have thought about April fools but that is gone already. Once again GATEAWAY error but this time it's took lot of time(If i am not wrong almost two hours) to back to normal condition. This is  second time i saw this error. Maybe some changes were made or new things added or it may be just traffic error.

Noticed that, it was just those active online noticed it....
Taught it was from my network, and I had to switch over to a new network same error, even tried VPN.
What could have been the caused of this

Is it normal for this to happen? I have also experience this situation last year, but I just blamed it on my internet service provider.

It is Bitcointalk that caused this, as simple as that. You can see in the error image that your browser is working, the connector is working, but the site you are connect to is not working, which is this forum Bitcointalk. This error is common on forums, but Bitcointalk error time is not that long, it take only few minutes which I have experienced before some times on this forum, but not common.

I would say it's normal but there are occasions that the forum experienced this kind of things. It's could be Theymos is doing some tweaks, or the problem with Clouldfare itself or worst maybe there could be entities trying to DDoS us.

But at least we are back to normal now.

What could have been the caused of this
searching around it seems that there are several things that could have caused this, server overload, server connectivity issues, DNS issues, etc...
I also found a thread from 2017(Busy, try again (504)) where theymos replied that he was doing some maintenance on the forum, it could be one of the reasons why error 504 occurred.
