Ive turned the vcore up so there are no HW errors. Seems to be running ok at the moment. Ive moved it onto the psu fan and the voltage has upped to 4.55v now. Its drawing 1.4a and around 6.4w.
The usb dc converter has no adjustment that ive found but was rated to 2a.

What's the core voltage set to? To get higher than 250MHz needs to be at least 700mV. At that you should be drawing maybe 1.1A off 5V. Just guessing you've turned up the current limit on the 5V regulator?

As soon as it starts the voltage drops to 4.3v even though I've got a Y splitter to the hub and a step down converter straight off a 550w psu breakout board. Has anyone got any suggestions? A decent hub that can be purchased in the UK that has enough oomph?

- Power brick 5V/10A supply directly on the Gekko PCB (see picture below)
- insert an diode in the 5V+ Line from PC-USB cable ( prevent a backflow from PS to PC, but be able to supply the Gekko also in idle or standard mode w/o ext. Power)..
- active Shark Copper/Aluminum-Pipe Cooler and passive backside cooler
Cgminer, running now at 450MHz

I have a good ups that I have :1 mac mini
my router
my ethernet switch
my linux pc
my 12 compac sticks
about 200 watts for all that. I have had 2 quick outages (1 second or less) that the ups saved.

I have several UPSs along with a brigs 7000 watt key start generator along with a 7000 watt transfer switch (so my wife can run it).
we had a E3 tornado in town and 7 days (yes seven) with no power (these were separate incidences). look up "Monson Mass tornado" along with "Halloween 2011 snow storm northeast" (snowtober we call it). fun times indeed

If you want to go big, grab the 49-port EyeBoot. I was given one to test sticks with in exchange for pictures and endorsement, and folks who know me know I won't endorse something I don't believe is actually good. It's actually good. I test sticks in batches of 25 at 200MHz which means in the neighborhood of 20A running through it and never have problems.

Im looking into USB hubs but there is a HUGE difference in quality between models/ brands.
Also, is it still possible to still buy these Gekko sticks? I have two but it would be cool to get a hub and a few more.

5 compacs here @ 16.x gh/s on a rPi model B and a superbpag 70 watt hub and they have run for like 2 months straight out absolutely no problems. run cooling when you crank them up
grab cgminer-gekko on the 1st page of this thread. runs on win7x64 Pro, win7 home 32bit, rPi B, and of coarse *NIX. plus win XP 32bit (get the special XP driver), Vista, and others.
I have learned a lot with these sticks. I had an older pc I did a linux build (first and only one) I put in the cgminer-gekko and a bitcore node. And it just runs.
and runs and runs. I still can see the 850 million share that won the peercoin block on feb 21 as this cgminer has been running since feb 12.
I have a good ups that I have :

I can not complain about the sticks. I killed one of 23 or 24 but it was operator error. I over tightened the heatsink. It lifted the chip a bit I gave it away to a compac stick member.

Had some hardware errors on one of my sticks so I increased the voltage slightly on the pot and havent had any errors in about 12 hours.

I hit 5 peercoin blocks 1 orphan.
the good one on feb 21 this year was with the compac sticks. an 850 mill share.
the other four were with a pair of avalon 6's

Hello all! New to the forums and this Bitcoin adventure and I have to say these miners are great! Up and running in no time with all of your help. Needed something new to tinker with and what a great choice First on a win 7 box with bfgminer and then cgminer-gekko, now running on a pi with minera/cgminer-gekko. Had them burning along at 400mhz on the win 7 box and now 368mhz on the pi with a cool 20gh. Thanks sidehack and novak for all your hard work

hi - i need some help please. every time i start cgminer it goes over with the following crash in Fault Module Name: libpdcurses.dll (see image); i'm stumped, this happens when the stick is plugged in or not. i'm trying it on a dell laptop that just has old ATI Radeon Express graphics and i've tried re-sizing the command prompt window, but to no avail... anyone have any ideas please?

Could be a power limitation.
Im running two sticks plugged into the motherboard on a VMWare ESXI 5.1 host I have. VM runs Linux 4.2.0-27 generic 14.04.1 Ubuntu.
(It runs a local DNS server so I figured I would get a little more use out of the box and have it mine some USB sticks while it did DNS)
I've been getting pretty decent speeds but I often get the "Gekko detect failed to initialise (incorrect device?).
when I start mining. (Im testing different speeds etc so I restart a few times a week)
It usually works fine if I restart CGminer a couple times. Is this common or something I can troubleshoot with my setup?
