as long as the 5v from the computer or hub is isolated from the 5v to the compac it would be fine.

ie cut the 5v line in the usb cable to the computer, and tie the 5v line from the psu to the compac. only grounds will be common. that way with the slight voltage mismatch will not be fighting each other.

some y cables may come already isolated like that (power injectors maybe) but others depend on the y cable being plugged into the same hub or computer so that the 5 volts on each end of the y are equal..

when most people think of y cable the latter is what they are thinking of.

very clear, thank you for that Smiley

what is this "brake pedal" you speak of?

I wonder if we could use Y cable and instead of using another hub as a power source, remove the male USB connector and plug the wire in one of these:

There's a wide range of those on ebay...

5V and 6/12/60A.....

Just letting people know I updated the windows binaries to support bitshopper compacs and I also compiled it with icarus, so you should be able to run it with lots of other stickminers if you wish.

gekkoscience.com/misc/cgminer-gekko-win32.zip

Let me know if you find any issues.  The old version is still at gekkoscience.com/misc/cgminer-gekko-win32-old.zip

Guys, I've updated cgminer-gekko, if you download it now the link is still the same:

http://gekkoscience.com/misc/cgminer-gekko.tar.gz

If for some reason you need the old version, it can be found at:

http://gekkoscience.com/misc/cgminer-gekko-orig.tar.gz

The new version is slightly cleaned up and will build alongside icarus.  I've tested it with a U2 and they run at the same time.  I also fixed it to recognize bitshopper compacs, as that was a source of annoyance.  I have yet to try to force a windows build.

nerver mind my previous post I found my answer.

Hopefully reposting the Linux version on the same page as the windows version will help.

maybe mentioning the changes on the 1st post (icarus + gekko +bitshopper support) would be helpful ?

You are right, I made a note on the first page.

Yes, that's cgminer, not my driver.  cgminer always trips out antivirus because some viruses used to include it to steal mining power from people, back when cpu mining was useful.

Clueless!
see that a lot for mining software in general.

I just exclude the folder with mining programs from my antivirus scanners and use only the official download sites for the miners.

yeah it was just a double check in case his build got corrupted..what I figured...I'm still trying to get the linux version to work

(Ubuntu 12.04) on some toss away ..'no longer able to go past xp' machines for free that I use to monitor 2 titans....

seemed like a good idea for dual purpose but been 2 months on time off ..trying this ...sent some info to novak but

most folk are just saying screw it and put these on a pi insead..may do so...hard to mess up an SD someone can copy me

if worse comes to worse....anyway....thanks for the info

That's a brilliant idea !

I've not found a heatsink suitable for 6 sticks yet (I'm looking at the one used for old Pentium IV / AMD K7 slot CPU) but I have a bunch of these leftover from my watercooling setup last summer

http://www.docmicro.com/ventilateurs_radiateurs-memoires_Alphacool-Dissipateurs-GPU-15x15mm-Jeu-de-10-_10502.html

I have salvage a big GPU heating though but I won't fit more than 4 side by side.

Or maybe 6 if I do 2 rows of 3 "head to head".
But i'll have to redo my fan "case".

If the stick is getting very hot, you should put a fan to it.

I have a fan on it already. I am unsure as to if the heat sink is working properly :| What about the light and Core V dropping to 0?

For the back you can try these for the back. I've got them on all of mine now (not sure if they help or not, but just a little extra help if it's needed), they fit the back of the pcb/chip nicely and a plus is they are copper and come with extra pads. Down side, depending on you hub port spacing, you loose 1 (maybe 2) slots in between sticks.

Check the screws at the heatsink! Maybe they will get loose or they get stretched by heat. Its a cooling pad under the heatsink, not paste like the originals. My bitshopper-Stick has the same problems with heat and dropping VCore but i havn't the time to sort it out yet. Maybe you get the clou ...

Yeh i checked the screws before they were loose so i hand tightned them a bit. Just at a loss of what to do really. It wont run for more than a couple of mins before it stoppes and the V core goes to 0... It is a bitshopper stick. Really dissapointed.

If it was loose maybe some air got in between the chip/pad/heat sink and it's trying to get the heat out the back (?). Does the heat sink get hot/warm?

I think you're overloading the USB port.

What freq are you running it ?

ive tried a few frequency's. Currently just running 100 at 0.623v to see if it stops again. (5.4GH/s)

Using USB 3.0 ports in a powered hub. 200-250 stop's after a few mins and sometimes carry's on for an hour then stops. Its really confusing.
