Just discovered this thread and want to congratulate with RodeoX for setting all this up for the only purpose of raising bitcoin awareness all over the world ( merit deserved).

Btw I just "googlemapped" the location and it's just a 11K kilometers drive from here : as soon as I'll have some free time it might be a go  Grin Cheesy.

That's awesome!
Remember, if you take a picture of the location and send it to me it is worth an additional .001BTC ! I really fell in love with Namibia last year and I am definitely going to return sometime.

EDIT:

OMG, I'm an idiot.
I read "11K Kilometers" as 11 Kilometers. I thought you were a days walk from the cache. Now I see that you are even further from it than I am, lol.

LOL yep exactly  Cheesy

even if there would be really consistent reasons to get in Namibia

enjoy the video

This is indeed awesome and interesting.  I wish I can be a part of this event as it would be fun filled. This is a great work by the organizer and founders.  Kudos to them all.  Keep up the good work.  One day,  I will also be a part of it.

It’s just sitting there right now for anyone to pick up and in the coming days (weeks?) I will provide clues in this thread that will disclose the location of this paper wallet...

Having already spent some valuable time, can you please give clear details in the OP?
Thank you.
You have some time until the end of 2018, so it's possible that some clues, hints are timed for the end of the year, so be patient and if you really want to collect that prize, be prepared for the info, and also double check the topic that you haven't missed any important information.

If you look through this thread all the information on the location of the cache is right there.

If not then I fly to another place and use my copy of the private key to move it to a new cache.

Iceland > Namibia > ?

This is very, very cool. Congratulations on starting something like this. I also hope that you soon gives more tips, it would be very nice to see someone in Africa finding and came here to the topic that you have started, since so many people seem to have a lot of ideas that it is possible to have well-educated people there with access to the Internet and Bitcoin.

Maybe here on Southeast/East Asia where people are more active on the internet than IRL (true story).
If it's somewhere in Japan, Korea, Philippines or Singapore, it will only take weeks for the parcel to be picked up.

You just have to rethink of a new "clue game", the previous were answered in seconds using google image search.

The problem with the current one are: it wasn't advertised well enough to the locals to cause a "buzz"; the language barrier (3.4% English speakers) or at least translate this thread to their local language; and lastly, there are only few Africans here in the forum.

The revolution will be monetized!
As far as I know this money is still just sitting there by the road. Anyone is welcome to take it and claim the prize. But remember, when the new year starts the prize will move again to another place on the Earth.
Or... it was taken by a native who have no idea what Bitcoin is and used the container for something else.
The actual price (the paper wallet) was used to start a fire stove or turned into a paper plane and landed on someone else's roof.

Is this based on blockexplorer's report of the address' transaction history?
Do you have any physical access to the location in order to check if it was already taken?
Although sarcastic, my first statement can be true.

I think Africa is a different place than you think. Namibia's literacy rate is over 95% People are well educated, into country music and keeping the cities spotless. And yes, people there know what bitcoin is at about the same rate I experience in the U.S.

Of course it is possible that someone picked up the cache and didn't bother to read the note. A child for example. But It seems to me a lot more likely that it is there. I can't say though, as I am not flying back to find out. Proof of find is to move the btc to another address or to contact me with proving information that can only be known if you have the cache. If someone moves the BTC then it's theirs to keep. If not then I fly to another place and use my copy of the private key to move it to a new cache.

For the next three days I will be posting pictures with huge clues. Here is the first. This is the cache just as I left it.

Come to Nigeria. We will be waiting for you

In fact it was confusing to most who had heard about it. I think a killer app is needed to make it simple and, as you mentioned, cheaper. Otherwise it only works well for larger purchases that the unbanked are less likely to make.  I did not bother with explaining all this to the San bushmen. They are choosing to live a very simple life without electricity.

So is this prize still waiting to be found or not?
...
Yep, as far as I know it's just sitting there. There are enough clues in this thread to locate it.

I have sent .01 BTC to the paper-wallet pictured above.
This looks like a typo, and should be 0.1 BTC. ...
Oh man, you are right. I edited the post now. It is .1 BTC at the cache.

Is there any plans for doing the same in India? I will be more than happy to participate in the hunt.
...
I might. India is on my list in the next few years. My sister-in-law married into an Indian family. So I now have relatives there.  If I do go I'll keep your offer in mind.

No rules here guys! Hook up with a partner in Africa if you want. Whoever gets there first has the private key.

Some reasons for doing it:

  • Many people are open for adoption
  • Good enough education level to adopt crypto
  • Digitization is Government's aim (Though putting many hurdles for the Crypto)
  • I am more than happy to help you.  Smiley

However, I still think the unbanked in the third world have a lot to gain from bitcoin. My hope is that it will spread by word of mouth or that stunts like I'm trying here will draw attention to this market. Perhaps it will be an African who finds this cache? We are winning the fight in the west, lets bring the rest of the world up with us. There is plenty of room on the moon.
How cool would it be for the unbanked to skip the phase with banks? They're a necessary evil in the "banked world", but in my opinion (after the last crisis) they're way too big, powerful and rich for what they do (basically just moving money around without producing anything).

There is a software capable of finding the exact location of a picture, but unbanked Africans don't have that kind of technology. you guessed right, I haven't been in Africa. are there any wild animals near the location of this hidden treasure?

Well, if this was a real geocache game Rodeo would give us GPS coordinates...at least as clues. So, not a software but a widely available technology. Geocaching is a game by which one uses GPS to locate prizes or messages.

UPDATE: It has been found. See page 1 of this thread for winners.

Hate to bump my own thread, but the money is still just sitting there.

So is this prize still waiting to be found or not?

You should enlist members of this forum to help you stash these prizes around the world! I'd gladly stash one near my corner of the globe and provide pictures and clues.

There was a guy in San Francisco that was doing the same thing for a while, he posted his clues on Twitter. It's a great idea!
