Not surprising anymore.  This would be the effect of watching too much violence on tv and movies.  They adopt the imagination into reality and influence her behavior that leads her to this crime.  Guidance of their parents is important in this crucial stage of teenagers.  They are becoming violent and dramatic nowadays.  Is she having desire on his brother?  Why would she be jealous on her brother's girlfriend?

Is this caused by violent films on TV? Violent games? The Internet?
I've thought that many times, some things are wrong with the youth. I had no violent ideas like that when I was that age. I understand Syria and many countries are terrible places to grow up, but Wisconsin isn't one of them.

It's not due to video games, internet, music, etc... I've grown up with my brother and neighbour and as kids, we played MK, thrill kill, twisted metal... alot , and a lot of violent video games. Also, we watched a  lot of violent movies, horrors, action, thrillers... so in all, we played and watched a lot of violence in our childhood, and we were never restricted by our parents and we grew up in 3 perfectly normal humans. My brother and I are on college, our brother from another mother (neighbour we grew up with) went abroad for work. So I don't believe that violence in games, tv and music causes violence irl, maybe it works on stupid people, i dont know...

It's due to pressure build up.

Knowledge is the art of restriction.
It is a double-edged sword, all of the great things that are made possible through the use of knowledge come at an untold cost.
True freedom is unavoidably lost with every new rule/law/theory that science proves to be true. This translates into humans feeling cornered/smothered on a very deep level, beyond their very awareness. The more humans advance the less room they have to breathe. Sometimes coping mechanisms snap.

Simple, the girl has participated in occult rituals at some point in her life. I believe she is playing out something she had witnessed before, which glued to her memory.

Was it really that there were no warning signs of her mental and emotional illness or did the parents just miss them?

There is always some warning signs but if the parents are busy with work or have too many of there own problems it might be hard for them to spot. There is too much violence shown in TVs and on the internet these days.
Of course, parents should have noticed something strange in the behavior of his daughter. But complete insanity, might not be. Perhaps the girl, had a nervous breakdown at the last moment. In any case, the psychology is very complex and the common man, the part might not be noticed.

She seems to be a psycho, a mentally ill person but it doesn't mean that she needs to be sexually attracted to her brother of something like that. There are some people with abnormal mind who when gets an advantageous situation commits crime. We have heard people killing others without reasons or for some stupid things, like the mother who cooked her child.
Perhaps you're right. But most of all, sexual desire brother and sister, was the place to be. Girl, really sick. Otherwise, everything would have ended in the usual women's tears. Healthy, normal person, when did not take up arms in such a situation. Only a mentally unbalanced person, takes a weapon in a similar situation.

Sigh.. Another out of this world news.  Teenagers now are more engaged in crime  and a crime that is only seen on movies.  Maybe their minds were too polluted with crimes and violence seen on televisions and movies.  Adding those things with alcohol and drugs will definitely produce heinous crimes.  Nowadays, it seems easy just to do these crimes.  Parents need to advise and guide their children specially those teenagers.

India has ten times the population of the USA, one twentieth of the wealth per capita and one tenth the violent crime. Murricans are seriously fucked up. ROFL

USA population:  2016 estimate 324,099,593

India population: 2016 estimate 1,328,161,000

Dude... you are seriously out of mind.

Do you really think that India is safer than the United States? I am a regular visitor to India. At least in North India, women are not advised to venture out after 6 pm, without a male companion. The main difference is that in India 99% of the crimes are not reported, while in the United States, the reporting is close to 100%.

So is that true for all the other countries on the list. Is it safe to go out after dark in the UK, France, Germany, Japan, Russia? The US per capita has one of the highest crime rates in the world for a first world country.

Kali Jade Bookey from New Richmond, Wisconsin, was charged as an adult by police on 28 July with attempted first-degree intentional homicide. If convicted, she could be jailed for up to 40 years. Bookey is currently held without bail in juvenile custody before a preliminary hearing slated for 8 August.

Police documents claim that she attacked her victim – her brother's girlfriend – in the girl's bedroom, by attempting to suffocate her. She is then alleged to have smashed two bowls on the victim's head, and finally cut her throat with a shard from one of the bowls.

this news is both terrible and saddening  because alleged murderer is still a child no matter how horrible the crime that she commited, and i think she has got some serious mental illnesses. Therefore, she must be sent a rehabilitation centre not a juvenil for sure..

Not rehab. Execution. And maybe her parents, too. For not teaching her better.

Cool

This is not only bad, cruelty in its entirety and should not be condoned in any sane society. How on earth could you give someone that kind of treatment irrespective of what that person might do... This is pure jealousy imagine what she would do IH she caught her own boyfriend cheating then she could set the neighbourhood on fire. Let justice take its course also RIP to the dead... My 2 cents...

Violence is in featured in everything, mainstream TV shows, music.etc. i bet The girl's been watching too much tv so she became a psychopaths.

probably. people do what they always see, I think. many kids are grown before the time they should be. and the law doesn't arrest kids, they just need to write a sorry letter and promise not to do it again. it's not fair of course.

and I don't think the reason why she did that makes sense. I guess there is another reason why she had guts to did that.

These were really bad, as well the majority of the responsibility is over the media which has the power to make even a normal man psyc due to the abnormal visualization over films and other fiction stories.
It savsem not normal. This crazy girl! Whatever was the reason for its action. Did that cause a movie or book, even if she secretly loved her brother. All this is very bad! Where were the parents as they bring up their children ?! First of all for the actions of their children, parents are always on wine. At least indirectly, it is wrong parents in the upbringing of their children.

So she's hot for her brother and gets pissed when he gets a girlfriend. Maybe she already had sex with her brother and was acting like a scorned ex-girlfriend. Americans are so twisted. LOL
