Yes you can do..... make sure you have edited the old addnode entrys to match the sample .conf from the OP

If you are using a config from an old version, you may want to remove any addnode entries in there, as they probably are non-existent or point to some old version wallets.
If you remove them, there are several hard coded nodes that will ensure you sync with the latest version wallets.
