Nowadays we need to be careful when publicly admitting to owning Bitcoin. A lot of crypto traders have been receiving threats as in the case of Daniel one of the guys from Chart Champions.

Things are escalating as, apparently, a 14-year-old kid from England got kidnapped after bragging on social media posts about having lots of money made from trading cryptocurrencies.

That's why I don't like anyone to know I'm in the Crypto business.

Your wealth is for you to have a better life. Not everyone should know how much you own. Especially in the case of Bitcoin, you should take care more.

Looking for gigs
I’ve seen a lot of my crypto Facebook friends who are bragging about their exact Bitcoin (and other crypto) holdings in public. Some of them would even say “not to brag, but to inspire”. But of course me and the others can’t stop them from bragging, coz’ it’s their choice and they will be paying future consequences later on.

Like they are saying “All thanks to Bitcoin, crypto, etc., I’ve bought this land, house, car, etc.”, something like that. It makes them easy targets for criminals.

I also knew one Facebook friend (which actually just a social media friend and not a real life friend) who keep bragging about her earnings was victimized by a holdup. She was beaten and had bruises in her back. They took away her wallet and other important stuff.

It’s pure common sense that we should not be publicly disclosing our earnings on Bitcoin. Not just on BTC and other cryptos, but in any other way of earning. It’s better to stay low key as much as possible.

This. Exactly this.

Its like walking down the street with a suitcase full with millions of dollars.

Some people really are way to naive and seem to be living in some fantasy world where everything is rainbows and nothing can go wrong. Bragging does nothing except give birth to jealousy and envy. Nobody is impressed by how much money you have, so why brag?

In my country not only criminal, but government who search people and ask for tax usually came too. I think people don't need to show his wealth because it can attract bad thing more than a good thing, it is good to do self reward, but maybe we should know if in social media, not only people around us but there are a lot of others that can see our life and we must protect our personal thing for ourself only.

Displaying or bragging about your assets publicly will only attract criminals. Some things should be kept in private for our own security and safety. Being low-key is the best thing to do so we could get rid of people with bad intentions. It's better to grind in silence than be boastful of our achievements.
this is a consequence that must be accepted when people who are showing off their assets indirectly there will be people who even target them for personal gain.
on the other hand this is indeed a careless move from an investor or trader, they will indeed look good in their environment and be labeled as successful people on the other hand it is like they are digging their own grave

Hopefully, we will have GPS trackers (that can harvest energy from radiowaves: to perpetuate their autonomy) - smaller than a grain of sugar - inside our bodies, able to send signals to the internet.
Say that when you're going to be under a "The $5 wrench attack" when you lonely at your home !  Grin  Grin

But why the internet? why not just a simple personal system ?

Even if you haven't mentioned any amount, it is still somehow going to lead to a crime of any sorts you can imagine just by imagining on how much Bitcoin costs now even less than a whole. When you say that you are holding Bitcoin, people would think that you own more than a dollar obviously.  I don't even tell some of my relatives that I hold Bitcoin, because surely they'll be expecting me to be like a rich moron.

We already have them, and we can put them inside pretty much anything that can be stolen: like a piano, a TV, a tablet or a motor-bike. I want to live in a world where everything is being tracked to the clouds at all times, and where everyone's voice and biometric signals (including pupil dilation and Galvanic Skin Response) are being recorded and analyzed.

Although bitcoin has high security, if published, we can become targets for bad people. Social media is very dangerous because there are many people we don't know that they are good people or bad people. I feel lucky because I'm not someone who likes to share things on social media.
Indeed. There's a lot people who are greedy and being happy even they did bad things to those people for the sake of money. It is not safe anymore saying in public that you own a bitcoin since bitcoin is becoming more and more valuable. Money is very needed this time because of pandemic that's why it's too dangerous spreading information to the public especially to those people whom you don't know.

Most of the crypto enthusiastic that publicly displayed their wealth is probably due to youthful exuberance, a matured and reserve crypto hodlers wouldn't exhibit such a irresponsible behavior just like the referenced 14 years old kidnapped boy in England, personally I am in to cryptocurrencies but I never expose myself publicly except to some few close confidants who I had earlier introduced bitcoin to but ignored my advice, earning or hodling bitcoin ought to be anonymously and whatever profits earned should be invested in another business without any noise and unnecessary displaying of wealth to be on the safer side.

in my place, people will ask more about crypto if you tell them that you own lot of bitcoin, some of them will judge by their knowledge, or want to know more, or just pass it.
in some country, you need to hide what you doing because they will make eye on you, like you are the gold, for them. and crime increase because some people show about what they have

Bitcoin is becoming more and more valuable and those with bad intentions will know it too. But looking back on the matter for a moment, what the hell kind of place are we living in. We're scared of the very things we're trying to create, actually looking at things more lightly because a lot of money is always dangerous Sad that's really petty envy. It doesn't change anything when we live in such a society.

[Nope]No hype delivers more than hope
If you mention the nominal or the amount, it may be a trigger for the crime. Or implicitly, you have invested bitcoin (not to mention the nominal) with a full view of luxury, for example while on vacation or wearing branded goods.
I've said that crypto opens up more opportunities for transnational crime. However, I have never heard of a violent crypto criminal case like the OP's case in my country. Only fraud here that happens a lot.

As with what happened in the story with the 14 years-old boy,

The danger here, with cryptos, of making yourself known by holding some, is that is just like you holding cash money,, or in more dangerous way; the police can still be able to to recover cash from the malfactors, find it in their possession..
with cryptos, even if there's to be proven they holding it, the malfactors can choose to not give the police the password
Some factors that would give more motivation to raiders to take action ..

BTC to the MOON in 2019
it's true that we should be able to protect our crypto assets and not be too exposed because we don't know what someone's mind is like. Although blockchain technology is a safe and protected technology, we still have to be more vigilant and careful. actually not only in the crypto world, but in other businesses we also have to be careful with our wealth because when talking about crime it can happen anytime and anywhere. use the crypto business properly and appropriately because we still need privacy on our own crypto assets.
We should always see to it that we remain private as well as all of our assets as much as possible so other people cannot interfere and will not have any insights on our own personal information. Well, its not bad to brag sometimes assuming that you can somehow inspire other people but when we talk of bitcoin, its better to keep it untold and keep it private just how most of the early traders deal with their bitcoin assets and investments. Better to keep it yourself than lose and that would make you feel so desperate when it happens.
Just like on my situation on where i do still remain low key but do end up on having lots of questions around my neighbor since i had purchased my own car and house with my crypto earnings.

There are really situations which cant really be avoided even if you dont tend to boast up your holdings but still it could really generate out questions
on people who had known you.

Therefore you should really make yourself prepared on different possible situations might happen.

Normal reaction for people since they see that you bought something valuable and they try to ask what is the source of your income since they want to have that to, but one piece of advice maybe you should higher up your job description so that they will not think that you do illegal things online since sometimes we can't deny that there are other people think about your dealing something bad that's why you earn fast money on internet.
I had a friend too that is the same with your situation so what he did is he indulge in other investments that can be visible by his neighborhood. In this way, though he's been criticized on how he has been making a luxurious life when in fact he has no stable income, at least this time he has other solid bases how he had achieved his present way of living.

There are a lot of assumptions that can be made when you become suddenly rich but as long as you never announced it on public, and you remain to be a low key, that's fine but just be careful all the time as someone might get jealous and want to steal what you have right now.
