from the NXT homepage:

"The difference between the Nxt Brain Wallet and Bitcoin is there is no automated generation of your passphrase/private key and there is no wallet.dat-like file. A Bitcoin private key still can be bruteforced without access to created wallet.dat file."

who's desperate?  that is blatant false advertising.

Well it could if you have futuristic hardware to do that really fast or if you have multiple lifetimes to crack it.

But the whole premise is in your lifetime you could bruteforce it...that is false.

Sounds pretty desperate if they have to resort to BS like that.

my brief review of the NXT and NEM sites don't reveal anything new as far as i'm concerned.  still hampered by an initial distribution to stakeholders that was announced only weeks before.  mining that favors initial stakeholders doesn't encourage growth of new entrants unlike with Bitcoin's issuance curve.  both should enter a downward spiral from lack of participation.  POS fanboys totally ignore Bitcoin's network effect.

can you link to where it says that about brute forcing private keys?

Why is that website so bad?

That's not an official site. There is no official site, but NXT.org is much closer to it than that outdated site people are referencing as a source for discussion.

Let us not cherry pick please.

wow, how convenient.  w/o an official site i guess you can accuse us of cherry picking no matter what site we quote.

do you at least agree with kodtycoon that the site i linked to above is a reasonable approximation of what NXT is at this moment so we can have a reference point to have a conversation?  or is it THAT fluid?

You want a reference point, go to nxtforum.org and engage a conversation with one of the couple of dozen or so developers.

And what's the official bitcoin site? Bitcoinfoundation.org?

Yeah, I guess we will just reference everything about bitcoin from there, lol.

Ps: and who is this "us" I'm accusing. NXT is about 7.5% of my current portfolio. Btc is about 80%.

You sir sound like an angry and defensive man.

that US.

It sounded like that us.

so my sentence self referenced itself?  that's a trick.

So I accused myself? That's a trick. 😉

and you dont need to be so damn offensive. thats what you get for admitting your wrong. you need to learn some common decency and get out of the basement for a while.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Projection_%28psychology%29
"defend themselves against unpleasant impulses by denying their existence in themselves, while attributing them to others"

i wasnt rude/unpleasant to anyone until he was towards me. so how is this valid?

if anything i was the opposite by being polite and admitting i was wrong and requesting the source of the information in question so it could be questioned/corrected. then i get called an idiot for not knowing what i didnt know. and now im getting accused of "Psychological projection".

wtf?

im guna do something that few people do on this forum and admit that i could be/probably am wrong about bruteforcing private keys. but the tech behind nxt still stands and if some misinformation on a website is the only argument you can come up with against nxt as a technology, i see that as progress.

can you link to where it says that about brute forcing private keys?

that's ok, i won't consider you a complete idiot.  b/c i'm sure you're getting confused btwn proper RNG (like that recorded from the static from your cpu chip or from dice rolling like on bitaddress.org) vs. improper RNG of the 2256 bit privkeys as with "horse battery staple" brain wallets.   these generate non-random privkeys that CAN be brute forced b/c there are too many idiots who use these types of weak phrases.  what the hackers are doing are running dictionary attacks on commonly used phrases/words that have been either used in the past or exist in tombs like the Bible.

as to the mechanics of privkey generation, use Google. Wink

i know how they hack passphrases by using bots to access thousands of accounts with common or simple passphrases then monitor those accounts for deposits and as soon as ones used its opened and funds stolen. im ot an idiot. those who use those simple passwords, are.

and this isnt a discussion, its turned into you being totally insulting towards me after i admitted that i was wrong, which is far more than most people in this forum have the balls to do and im probably less than half the age of most of you. im done with this "discussion".

Well either way, that site is pretty crap, you'd be much better off reading the wiki: http://wiki.nxtcrypto.org/wiki/Main_Page. Especially the current and planned features section.

is this a fair summary of what NXT is?

http://wiki.nxtcrypto.org/wiki/Nxt_Wiki

who's desperate?  that is blatant false advertising.

I think what it is saying is that theoretically somebody somewhere could generate the same private key as you with Bitcoin (although insanely unlikely). With Nxt you can actually claim and lock down an account so that even if somebody generated the same one they wouldn't be able to use it.

it's very clear what it is saying and it's not anything close to your interpretation.
