I can not hold any altcoins for long term.
Imo this is way too risky. I prefer to trade them on exchanges for some profits to increase my BTC stash as I believe Bitcoin is the only real true Coin out there who can and will make the breakthrough to mainstream.

Buy Dash at low price and sale it at higher price, currently Dash is going up firstly this year. Regarding others coins I do not see any other good profit now, but you can check ETH Classic, ETH Fork changes for some weeks. May be it is possible to trade also with them 

A good coin that is cheap at the moment is DGB. It is still cheap at around 60 satoshi. I remember it was above 100 satoshi a few months ago when they made some announcement when the founder gave a talk.
It would make sense to accumulate this coin while it is cheap and sell it during th hype phase.

ETC is a good investment for the time being but i don't count on it for a long term investment and as soon as it is pumped and reached the top i will leave it behind.
MAID: i don't like anything about it
FCT: i have my eyes on this and think it can be a good investment but not sure yet.

LISK: i said this before about a month ago that lisk will rise and it has been showing some good movement these days. and will go higher too there was a lot of it accumulated.

Poloniex can't miss WAVES if they want take huge profits.

I think that anonymity has not (yet) a strong market value, because people don't realize yet to what they expose themselves.  As of now, there hasn't been many problems of tracing coins on bitcoin (apart for the Silk Road people), and there haven't yet been many coloring effects of coins (apart for the DAO white hackers on Poloniex) and the whole ETH fork.

People still think that anonymity doesn't matter (and hence that fungible coins don't matter).  When the problems with tracing and coloring coins will become more acute, this will change. 

I had some enthusiasm for Zcash when it was announced, but looking deeper into it, the more I look at it, the uglier it seems.  There is one brilliant idea: that is that *in principle* the anonymity set is much larger than monero IF YOU MIX. 

However, in as far as I've seen, these are the main objections I'm concerned about:
- it is not grass roots, but a commercial company (with all the problems of single point of failure etc...)
- the cryptography is new, complex and difficult to understand (failures, golden keys, back doors, ... ?)
- the commercial company has a privilege of receiving the first 4 years 20% of the mining, giving them some 10% of all coins.  In order to be able to do so, there must be a cryptographic hole in the system that gives them their privilege.
- there is a trusted setup done by a handful of people of which one has to hope that at least one person is 1) honest 2) uses a non-compromised system.  Otherwise, there will exist a golden key from which an unlimited amount of coins can be made (and maybe much more).  The incentive to be one of the people with the golden key (or the idea that this key may exist) is a road stopper to me.

But the biggest problem of all is that the anonymity is, as far as I understand, a (costly?) OPTION.  That means that people using it will be suspect.  Anonymity is only working if it is automatic.

That said, it is new cryptography and it introduces a new concept (like cryptonote introduced the new concept of ring signature), and that in itself is interesting.

I didn't read enough about Zcash to really have a clear opinion. Some say it's great, some say its anonymity has issues.
But whatever I read, it's not that important. When Zcash will come live, the market will tell. XMR was the best real anonymous coin for quite some time and its price was never great.
So.. let's wait and see.

What do you think about Zcash as a replacement of the both of them? I was also focusing on acquiring XMR the last couple of weeks, but I've heard that Zcash, when delivered as promised, might be a way better alternative.

Good coins to hold long term in my opinion are:

- Bitcoin
- Litecoin
- Peercoin
- Dogecoin
- Namecoin
- LTBcoin
- Foldingcoin

I have already doubled my investment with some of the coins above. The trick to making money in crypto is to hold long term thats where the real profits are.

I would removed ETC from the list and add XMR and DASH. At least one of XMR and DASH seem to have a good future.

Lisk is now rising. It is a good time to buy some now than to regret it later. We have missed ETH before I will not allow myself to miss this one.

Litecoin and Monero

i agree on ETH and ETC coins. ETH can go down but it may also come back up but that only makes it super risky to invest in.
and about ETC, i have a feeling that this is the bottom for this coin and from here the price will only go up.

another coin that i have under my observation while i accumulate some is Lisk which has held its price up for a long time over a stable price.

KR: this can be added as being a clone of ETH with same functionality and relatively cheaper in price right now so they are getting partnered with universities really soon. Krypton dev covertress will soon be on world tour for Krypton (KR) business promotion. Its better to get into coin with full time  and dedicated developer.

ETC: Floor is 25-35 and whales are accumulating at around this range. ETH can end up being a disaster in the future and ETC will be a good hedge. Will pump.
MAID: Whales will keep accumulating at the 12-17 area, eventually there will be big pump die hype of news and so on.
WAVES: A gamble since we don't know if we will see this in Poloniex... but if it does I expect a pump.
FCT: Decent tech and looks like its stabilizing.
