At this exact time last year, Bitcoin was at $2,333.

If we were to see a similar surge (percentage wise) in growth, Bitcoin would be at $52,000 by 2019.

The downside from here is 6k. The upside is exponential. This is not a prediction, nor personal opinion, just perspective.

Looks like you were away for few months as market is below par from past few months but i think it is part of trading if you remember before this downtrend started we were at all time high prices for most of coins and market volume was exploding as well so i think this is normal correction and market can take a turn anytime now.

If you're thinking of long term, then yes it's a good opportunity to enter some fiat in the crypto. There are many good projects out there, do some digging and you'll find some real gems. Still BTC and ETH are the most preferred coin and I'd say have your 50% of investment split between these two. Rest 50%, you can invest in low market cap projects but with good potential. Honestly I do not think that 40% drop signifies anything. Also bitcoin has dropped approximately 68% since its all time high of about 20k and no, I do not think that its the end of this decline is the value of bitcoin.

First it is important to note that whenever bitcoin goes down, most of the altcoins go down too. Second, in bearish markets like this, the wast majority of altcoins go down even more relative to bitcoin. When bitcoin goes up, the reverse process is happening, and it can happen more often than not that some altcoins go up even more when compared to bitcoin.

Conclusion: bitcoin is driving the price of the entire crypto space.

You can never tell when it's a good time to buy. Especially if you look at this situation from the perspective of short term investment. Because, there may be a lower low in the near future. But as you said, for a long term investment, it is as good time as any, and certainly much better than 2 months or 6 months ago.

In the long term investment most of the crypto currencies will go to upward so you need to pick the right coin if you invest them in long term.But never invest more than you can afford to lose because it is decentralized market so the price will go in the direction based on the demands of the respective crypto currencies.

No the value is not less at all. This value is already high enough as compared to where bitcoin and altcoin started at the very beginning of their birth! Just imagine mate, bitcoin was all the way down to couple of dollars and similar fact applies to the altcoins also. They all started with low values and what we are seeing today is high peaks of them. The thing is we alas compare them with the value of December 2017 rush! That was the most hyped one but at the same time we should note that it wasn't the real value for them but manipulated one. So if we skip that part then we are already enjoying good price tag over the coins. Thats what I think about it.

If you are not panic and strong hand, buy it now. I think 2018 will be a gap year in rising of cryptocurrencies market. In the past, it like 2014, when market and bitcoin price went down after moon in 2012 and 2013. So its good time to jump in for strong hand to hold until next year. All altcoin are lowest price now and can give you multiple time than btc gives. IMO, you can keep BTC, ETH and some others altcoin for your blockfolio
