It was really shocking as people were unaware with the consequences if they they opted to leave or remain in the European Union. I think government failed to provide proper information to the citizens and which was really required. The decision has been made now and it will be really interesting to see what will be impact of this historic development.

I think a lot of people were aware of the consequences, that is why it was such a close vote. To be fair, the EU has had it's fair share of screw ups - Greece and the current immigration crisis are far from solved.

The trouble is when you are doing so well as a country, a lot of people want to move in. This is fine for a little while, but a constant inward migration will cause a lot of problems - traffic, lack of housing, public services struggling to cope. You could say this is unfair to the generations that have lived there before.

Freedom of movement can only work when the outer layer is strictly controlled and everywhere within has equalized so there is no strain on one area. There is a finite amount of land and shared resources, when you start to abuse or overuse them it can quickly drag society down.

When you hear stories of massive upheaval of European MP's travelling between Brussels and Strasbourg each year, it is really disconcerting that EU MP's are getting free reign to waste away people's money and are basically unaccountable.

"What is the EU?" is the second top UK question on the EU since the #EURefResults were officially announced

Voters on the day of the referendum were uninformed and didn't take into consideration the real situation. I'm not saying it's why there was a Brexit, because nothing proves that people voting "leave" were the most googling this questions (no data can exist on such affirmation).
It just proves that Britains were not informed on the day they voted, that they didn't grasp the importance of the situation and that they made a hastly, unthought decision.

UK import 17 Billions more than it export because of the laws of germanic EU. Long term, the loser will be Germany.

The UK imports $31 billion worth of automobiles, $13 billion worth of machinery, and $7 billion worth of pharmaceutical products from Germany every year. This is going to decrease, once the UK cancels its European Union membership. On the other hand, more automobile manufacturing units and machinery assembling centers will be established in the UK.

Enough with the fear mongering, I'm getting pretty sick of it now, especially with the fact that the media seem to be collectively denying my existence...
If not the mongering of fear then what is left to monger?

The many mongerers must make money.

The market will always readjust.

Texas session what a joke... Hard to find bigger patriots in the Union... However I am sure that the ennemies of USA (China/Russia) must be plotting some nefarious activities to break the Union. And with this weak Marxist they have an open field... But who knows it may be a trap Wink

Please explain us how EU regulations make you buy Apple and BMW. ...

I can understand why you posted that, and I agree with your motivation. However, there is an element of truth in the statement. We are forced to buy foreign goods because government policy and EU regulations have decimated British industry. Now that we are out of the EU, lets get on with rebuilding our manufacturing base.

Brexit: Truth And Consequences

============================

Time for Texas to have an America-style Brexit - a "Texit."

• Doesn't the Texas Constitution reserve the right of Texas to secede?
• Didn’t the outcome of the “Civil War” prove secession is not an option for any State?
• Didn’t the U.S. Supreme Court in Texas v. White prove secession is unconstitutional?
• Is Texas really ripe for a secession movement?
• How would Texas—and Texans—benefit from secession?
• Are there any organized efforts to promote a Texas secession?
• Why exactly are y'all selling bumper stickers?

The British agriculture is mostly dead. The sector employs just around 1.5% of the British workforce, and this proportion has been going down for the past many years. The agricultural production is on the decline, as GM products from the US are flooding the local markets. Still... the Brexit referendum will have no effect on trade with the US.

Actually, according to the New York Times, last month Britain exported the biggest tonnage of wheat to the USA in twenty years - all thanks to the pound falling as the Leave side moved ahead in the polls. That should improve even more this month.

I personally know of a business that exports healthcare software to the Caribbean that is over the moon at the pound falling - the Caribbean dollar is pegged to the USD and when they buy British stuff it converts back to 8% more sterling. If your costs are in sterling but earnings are in dollars or anything pegged to dollars, this is a windfall.

I'll try to explain to you simply:
Low pound is good for export, bad for import.
Problem: UK import 17 Billions more than it export.
Conclusion: Low pounds is extremely bad for UK.

That's a false premise really, as that 1.50% workforce generates around 60% of the food consumed in the UK for a year. All that number represents is that farming and agricultural practises are very efficient that you need to employ so few people in the sector - but you're still talking hundreds of thousands of people. Agricultural may very well be on the decline, but that is because so many fields are being consumed by the current housing and population boom.

The US should be really concerned about that article.
First it looks as if it was reporting on British life under the EU  tyrants, not the new vibrant Britain.
Putin is expanding Russian agriculture as a direct result of US sanctions. He is introducing capitalism to Russian farming, and they now export more grain than the US.
They have also banned GM crops and are focusing on healthy food. This is an emerging world trend, and they are in the forefront. Britain is also a part of this. American meat is banned in many countries because it is loaded with poisons. EU restrictions made it difficult to produce healthy food.
There is a certain amount of disenchantment here because support for banksters has pushed up house prices. Hopefully the new UK government will stop this support, raise interest rates, and bring house prices back to realistic levels.

Uneducated fools... I am sure that all in it costs more to have toxic food in a socialist nation than it brings. Loss of productivity and health cost exceed the price gains from total unsustainable industrial food production

I would say those are under 18's who were doing assignments on it in school on Friday.

You guys know that kids use Google too, right?

Well if you look at the leave campaign and here at the brexit threads ( under the premise that the ppl who said  that they are UK inhabitants really are) i think moglie's post is pretty much spot on.

There was an opinion poll out yesterday which showed Leave voters were happy with their decision. All adult voters in Britain know what the EU is because we've been literally arguing about it for forty years, constantly. It has been in every newspaper, every day, for forty years.

The people who might not know are the kids in school on Friday doing assignments on the exciting developments unfolding, and some of our non-EU migrant workers who were probably wondering how it all affected them.

I get that some Europeans are terrified that the UK has lit a fire under them, but this decision is final. Britain is fed-up to the back teeth of the EU. The EU is also wrong for our economy - we specialise in financial services, but they've been refusing to allow a single market in financial services for 40 years, mainly because they fear British companies will crowd out local firms. So we lose nothing from extricating ourselves from the corpse that is the EU. Getting out now before the rotting corpse explodes and spews stink everywhere is the smart thing to do.

Behind Merkel there is the one German bank... Deutsche Bank. She does everything for this bank... Sacrificed Greek people, and what you are saying. She wants Frankfurt to be the financial hub of Europe to feast on tax generated to finance her social democracy. It has never been fair... Deutsche Bank uber alles.

In a poll of 1,069 British adults aged 18 and over taken yesterday, just 39% said they felt a second referendum should be held.

The support level for a second referendum is even lower than the remain (48%) vote.

Most of the arguments we already talked about. So just ralk about the terrified europeans for now.
You know there are atleast 16.1 million terrified europeans in the more or less United Kingdom?

I really think you guys are in more trouble then continental europe is.
