My own opinion oh, based on wetin I dun see for university and the kind revenue way those school dem dey generate, I no go blame federal government for wanting to comot hand abi dem dun commot am already. Make I use uniport take do example. Immediately you get admission, first you go pay acceptance fees, den later pay accommodate and before you enta self you go write post UTME or for those wey dey use Basic enter, dat one na another billing. You go come pay departmental dues dem and faculties self all inside your first year school fees, na wetin dey make am reach #100k and above. We go buy manual, text book and other small small charges wey millions of students dey pay so.

Why the school no use all this funds wey dem dey generate use run the affairs of the school. If we dey federal school we no suppose they pay all this things because government supposed dun pay am for us but based on the corruption wey full the country, after governments dey sponsor them na so dem come dey taxed us (wey be students) everywhere. E no make sense na. If dem way taxed us make dem do am but make government commot their sponsorship for the school them. Make them channel that money go other places wey go help the country develop because I no see reason why government go subsidized school finish, this men go still dey use billing kill us.
Boss, I just dey laugh as I read this your comment. Any Nigerian wey don pass through the four walls of university go remember all the suffer them pass through because of the pay 5k for this office, pay 10k for the other office. Imagine say for school, you go pay departmental dues and faculty dues for school fees o but then your department and faculty go still demand that one separately. Infact, you go pay money from the first day you gain admission to the day collect your certificate from school.  Me follow support this one. Make school use that money wey dem they generate fund themselves.

As we take the hammer on this matter whether na fake or not, for it not happen because it is not a good move give our educational system. On top of that, the the Federal Ministry of Education don already hit Nigerians with their own kasala since May 25th before Tinubu enter office sef.
This move by the Federal Ministry of Education via the new update of fees for all the federal unit colleges nationwide from JS1-SS3. Come the make me ask question of which FG come accept this fees increment of all the federal unit colleges nationwide cos I no understand. Picture of fees increment attach below

Nigeria parents raise alarm over alleged hike in school fees

All this increment for school fees no happen during my secondary school days. Wetin I been pay na 850naira although na state school but my friend's wey go federal schools wey be borders no pay pass 7k.

Soon enough education go be for the rich people. If your family no get money to train you for school, you go learn handwork. Na when you come learn am finish, come get money join, you go now choose whether you go like go back to school or not.

This fees are still cheap na ! Private primary schools  in Lagos are already charging #300k per term. I don't know how unity schools (with boarding house) are able to feed the students and operate properly at the old rates

It’s really concerning that BAT is introducing new bills and changes so fast. It makes me wonder if he really thinks about these decisions before introducing and concluding on them. I hope there’s a long term plan towards all of these that will in turn have a positive impact on the our country at large. I really hope that our sufferings will be worth it in the end.

Many of this bills and changes were in pending folder before. Government didn't have liver to do it. Strategically, the best time to make changes is when new in the office, before the honeymoon period is over.

This government is capitalistic. Expect university school fees to double or triple. After all , private universities are already charging that much. [If you can't afford tuition fees, go and take loans]

If Tinubu does this,it means that his administration has failed woefully because there will be nothing like free education anymore in universities and after that it will boil down to the secondary school and before you know it the government is gradually shying away from its responsibility, which is part of human race right that says right to education. It is a pity that our universities will turn into private schools and at the end of the day,the loans that government will even give to students might not be able to meet up to their educational fee from first year to final year.

This is is poor start for this new administration because education is very important to one life because the poor ones uses education to console themselves and mingle with the rich through education. This means that the new government administration wants to separate the rich from the poor which is not a way to way to progress in a country.

Only few weeks wey our newly elected president Tinubu don take over the mantle of leadership so many new bills and changes have been put in place in a short interval. Em go be like sae the FG are in a hurry to change and implement new new bills like sae them no get up to 4 years to rule the country again.

This is normal when there’s a new administration in the government. They tend to make some few changes and do a lot of work within their first 100 days in order to be duly rated by Nigerians amongst his predecessors. Not all will continue implementing new rules and policies after the 100 days, I hope this one continues and it should be for the betterment of the whole nation.

For every step the federal government wants to take, theirs always a back up solution in order for the citizens not to feel threatened or pressured. The student loan bill will compensate this new step the federal government wants to take but I still feel that an increase in minimum wage will also help solve the problem and the parents won’t feel the pressure too much. Amongst the guidelines you need to take a student loan, not all salary earners will their child be qualified for it but with an increase in minimum wage, it’ll really help.

I think I might differ on this sir, as an intellect this is very harsh and uncalled for. This statement actually generalizes every Muslim in Nigeria and as such you’re tagging them to terrorism. The Muslim/Muslim ticket was a political propaganda that actually worked for them. Politicians only use religion to divide us and then they unite. Moreover all the other things you mentioned like vacations and holidays are they not also done by the claimed practicing Christian politicians. Also we have the senate president to be a Christian and if this is actually religious thing wouldn’t he have made the house vote against it. Or are the Muslims responsible for the looting of funds in the south or the Christians in the north?

With due respect, I feel disappointed seeing this coming from someone like you. This your comment has nothing to portray other than hatred, pain and bitterness towards other tribes and religion. The APC party played a political gimmick with MM ticket and nothing more. The earlier you do away with tribalism, the better for you. This forum will not contain us anymore if you don't take down the emboldened text in your comment. I'm very sure brainboss and the rest will not be happy that you started a religious chaos in the local board will all fought for. We have Christians in the senate and in fact, the senate president is a Christian and they can oppose and stop the president on the move if we are to go by your assumption that Muslims have no value for education. Politicians whether Christian or Muslims are well united and you are showcasing hatred for a particular religion.

With the current bad economy that our country is facing, I don't think the idea of the federal government removing its support for universities is a good thing because this will really affects many students, or it will even stop some people from furthering their education despite the loans granted to students because many higher education institutions will like to increase the price of their tuition fees to such a high level that even when students get the loan, it may not even to be enough for students pay their school fees and run something in school.seriously the policy of many universities will change in the ways they will be billing their students.

I can't confirm the news yet, but if it's true, the ASUU strike will be over because universities will be handling most of the internal funding rather than waiting for the government. Nigerians have been enjoying subsidised education for a long time now, but if it's removed, student loans will help and the issues of long strikes will be gone. it a good move
Well let it be that it is a fake news because that news is not a favourable news to many Nigerian homes. Some people plant cassava to train their children and some of them na fishing, whole some nai gin so all those category of people will be affected because the VCs will definitely increase the school fees to meet up the expenses of the school. This is a very bad news ever and for decays and centuries as a country.

Perhaps it is past time for the less privileged to prioritise self-development and skill acquisition above attending school, where they will almost certainly drop out owing to financial constraints. The government provides subsidised education to her citizens in order to provide equal opportunity, but there will come a time when education will be available only to those who can pay it. However, this is false news because the government cannot remove both the gasoline and education subsidies at the same time without raising the minimum wage.

Oya make we use Port Harcourt way I sabi example, Rivers university them, now they for auto pilot.. the schools them way student them they pay, they enter good use,  make I ask since The federal university government they fund am eh get anytime way students no they pay for school fees? Watin them they carry the money do, all the fees way students they pay. To me I no see plenty things way them wan use add or increase student school fees for because everything way them way be school management suppose they hide chop make them put am for better use.

No be say I they support the government for their decision, but this our country dem they sabi use any small opportunity turn am to business.

only some percentage are kept for school maintenance, its state owned school so huge percentage of the revenue are sent back to the State treasurer.

This is our problem in this part of the world. We bring out issues where there are none. Imagine Tinubu never do anything since the swearing in una go still complain. Whether FG dey hurry or not, make the thing favor the masses na the important thing abeg.

This is what you get when you elect a Muslim/Muslim party to be president of our there nation 9ja (who has no value for education i.e Bokoharam) to lead the people, because my problem here is, so they have funds to pay senators, house of rep members monthly, buy bullet proof vehicles, go to vacation in Dubai, send their children and relatives to abroad for studies, and the only single thing that would have benefited mama "Ada" or Papa "Precious" the common poor masses

Your opinion is very dangerous for public consumption and tantamount of causing unrest in the thread and the entire board. We have been living in harmony with one another despite our religious differences but it seems you're proud to cause the division with your opinion. It is true some opinions are not meant to be shared. This is a perfect example.

As PDAT don bring out student loan wey many people don applaud am, now na no funding of universities from the government. School wey you go you no want make common man pikin go because big man pikin no dey go public universities na private university or dem travel go abroad go school. Already school fees dey on de high side so if government no go assist in funding universities anymore I wonder how the school fees go look like.

For instance, 4 years program wey person suppose spend like 1M for school fees, with dis development person fit spend like 5 - 6M because naso e go be school fees go skyrocket. Wetin be the essence of the student loan? Na to borrow this big money to complete school come use 10 years of your life after school dey pay am small small? Na who dem dey deceive? Make PDAT no loosegaurd ooo, make him no go down this path ooo because e no good at all. If him wan do something wey go win the hearts of nigerians make him cut down the salaries and remove all those stupid allowances wey our lawmakers dey receive.

All policies taken by politicians are based on their interests alone and not base on religion what so ever.

various states have practiced it and we have seen the effect clearly. Now as it is, the withdrawal level of students from various schools are very high compared to the precious adminstrations.

Schools like university of ilorin had gone on full autonomy before and it worked for them. There were no strike and the standards of the school was kept in tact. The only this new one will have is government do not have a good policy to help the masses like other countries if not even malasiya is on full autonomy and people still rush there for education

The worst thing he say work no de guarantee if you finish the school that is the main problem.

With this fuel and other issues that have been worrying Nigerians, federal government could have waited for a while before bringing this news because it will actually trigger anger of Nigerian students and parents, because the little money they were paying before some parents can’t afford talk less of increasing the payment; this means that school is no more for the poor masses.

Maybe federal government intends not to support universities anymore since they feel they have given room for students to take loan which I don’t know where they will actually see money to pay back.

That is when the universities will have ill-staff, ill-equipt  and ill-mannered/management. Any way the government will use to support the students can't solve any problem with university management will give to them. My guy dis thing you see, various states have practiced it and we have seen the effect clearly. Now as it is, the withdrawal level of students from various schools are very high compared to the precious adminstrations. But if Tinubu used another means to support nthe students very well that they will not feel the impact of the heavy load that will giving to them to carry. Then it is ok. But I still doubt it. Because Tinubu can s trying to cut cost to pay the international loan from the previous adminstration.

At this time wey the country's economy and her citizen are not stabilize financially with the new development that has been put into law, the FG come throw and another bombshell that they can't fund our university anymore.  This means that universities are going to be sourcing their funds by themselves to keep it running. This will entirely make tuition fees of all Nigeria university to become expensive.

Wetin be una yarn for this matter because the way I d see am the implication no here. Peso no go spend big money for university come later the find work join. The student loan bill na em be the solution to all this or not? Make una suggest the way forward for our educational sector this time around

Because if na joke, abeg make someone try tell Mr. Presido say this move no be better move at all. Because there are certain things a country ought not joke with, such as Education, Health, Good roads & Electricity. And I bet you, even in the worst economy, Nigerians go always find way to survive.

I don't believe that this is a good idea because if the government stops funding universities, the universities will be forced to raise tuition fees, which will make education more expensive. I believe that the student loan bill would be beneficial, but despite the benefits, it also has drawbacks. My main worry is the increase in price that will occur if the government stops funding the universities. but let us hope it is still under deliberation we hope they don't implement it.

This is a very bad news ever and for decays and centuries as a country.

Not every policy we hear of is actually bad it depends on other policies around it. The first question one need to ask is what has all the fees by student been used for and how much are we currently paying for an education that is isn’t top quality again. See I will tell you this even the west or Middle East Nigerians rush to get quality education or to evade strikers are under autonomy and students pay tuition fees there. So once this government decides not to be fully responsible for every tertiary institution again then there will be addition of tuition fees. The only thing the government will do is to find other alternatives of helping students. The first is to make the after school life easier that can be achieved with employment opportunities for graduates. Also the government can as well set aside scholarships for extraordinary students for full payment and this will actually create an healthy competition and give students with poor backgrounds a stepping block to be par with others.

If each university is granted their autonomy then it will mean that some staffs will be relieved off their jobs most of these people are either visiting lecturers or those with queries. And if you look at the issue of visiting lecturers it sometimes manipulated by some of them even though it is legal they only come to classes just once.

The only problem now is what will the government made use of the money meant for universities for. One they could increase the amount of funds giving to tetfunds and this will only increase the number of infrastructures and equipments provided to schools. Also this money could be use for employment creation, and also to be added to the budget on the plan increase of minimum wage.
