I'm pretty sure I've seen announcements saying they can, they can also be traded here (just be sure to use a trusted escrow).

Ok, cool.  thanks for your help Kruncha!

Lastly... if you know... can litecoins be cashed in like BitCoins?  Litecoins seem far more stable.

Stack... Thanks for your opinion.  You don't think Litecoin would be wise?  My other thoughts were selling my GPU's as i got them for cheap and could make a ok profit with their current selling prices...and completely walk away from mining.

I think gpu mining is dead.

Sure you can mine other coins to be an earlier adopter, and that's wise, in case of any of them become popular, you have a stockpile ready to go and you will profit big-time. But this is the same concept as penny stocks, and is more like a hobby IMO, or a lottery.

If you actually intend on earning money with BTC, and/or intend to help support the network in the future, a GPU will not do, it uses too much power for too little of a hashrate. By all means if it's all you have - it still brings in some spare change so keep at it - but I wouldn't "invest" in a gpu solely for mining purposes.

I don't know about pools yet, but yes you can use guiminer, it just needs the script flag (I'm sure I've read what to do somewhere, I can't remember exactly at the minute).

You can look into different pools here http://litecoin.info/wiki/Mining_pool_comparison

EDIT: not so sure now about guiminer (seems it may be a different program), you can check here: http://cryptojunky.com/blog/2013/03/12/absolute-beginners-guide-to-litecoin-mining/

I'll be looking into it closely!  Can I use GUIminer for Litecoins? Any pool recommendations?

Bitcoin will always be the daddy, but I'm guessing a lot of people mine Litecoins to trade for Bitcoins. And from what I can tell, Litecoin is more profitable for GPU miners. I'm considering making the move myself.

Hmmm.... You raise a good point!  I was aware of LiteCoin... just never thought of it.  I just did some reading on it, and the one thing that concerns me is "It is unlikely for ASIC mining to be developed for Litecoin until the currency is widely used."  If LiteCoin is not "Widely Used" then it is not nearly as Liquid as Bitcoin.  In other words, isn't it easier to sell your bitcoins than litecoins?  Are most people mining Litecoins because they're easier to gain high numbers and in hopes of a increase in price over time?

There will always by an alternative coin to be mined with GPU (I've noticed a drop in rewards for Bitcoin). Why don't you check out Litecoin?

Hey Everyone,

I just wanted to get everyone elses views & opinion on the matter.  I'm fairly new to mining bitcoins, but I've got a fairly descent set up, getting around 3GH/s and currently pool mining.

In the last week I've noticed that even within my pool, the pool speed has grown substantially!  An increase of roughly 3,000 GH/s.  That's quite a bit!  I also just read that ButterFly Labs has started shipping their ASIC'S.

My big question is... do you feel that GPU mining is still worth it?  If so, why? In my opinion, with the ASICS coming to market, the decrease in BTC value and Increase in Difficulty level... I have my concerns.  I'm thinking that by July, mining with 3GH/S will not be feasible.  Whata think?

Thanks and I look forward to hearing what people think.   I apologize if this topic has been beaten to death in other posts.
