This will probably be the last time I try to explain this. You do NOT need $1000 worth of GRC to stake every day. With the current net weight you are estimated to stake daily with a balance of 10k GRC, which is closer to $322. If you actually have a need to stake daily. If you can get away with weekly staking you need $46 worth of GRC. Take a look at my stats for before and after V8 (2017-09-01). IIRC the days before and after averaged to exactly the same amount of stakes.

The bug with the old stake engine was that the magnitude was applied to each UTXO regardless of its size. This meant that a strong researcher could split their assets into tiny UTXOs and massively increase their stake weight which posed a great risk of double spending. For example, with my current balance of 54k GRC and 85 magnitude I have around 54k stake weight. With the previous engine I could abuse this and get 4.6 million stake weight.

And, no, you can't just apply it to one UTXO since it cannot be verified on the receiver end. We are looking into alternative, more secure ways of either rewarding researchers passively or use a secure way of applying the magnitude as stake weight. Not only they applied the patch without a poll, one of the developers abused the bug on the real net instead of using the testnet.


If you click on the username you will get on the list of all transaction on the bottom of the page, then you look on transaction type DPoR sorted by date, it gives rough idea on how often that person stakes, we don't know when that person's wallet online, but we can see if he or she stakes often or not.

But I agree developers should focus on researchers more than on bag holders.

 That's TOTALLY INSANE.

 Are they TRYING to shaft those that this coins is SUPPOSED TO BE SUPPORTING?

 Why the HELL am I going to keep MONTHS worth of income in the damned wallet in order to see payouts on even a semi-reasonably timely basis - and I'm a HEAVY hitter in Gridcoin, I don't even want to think about what this is going to do to the smaller-production folks.

$1000 represents over 30 THOUSAND GRIDCOIN at current pricing - that's well over A THOUSAND DAYS WORTH OF WHAT I MAKE - for perspective I'm right about 20% of ALL GRIDCOIN PARTICIPATION in Moo Wrapper, and also a smaller but significant factor currently in the Yoyo project.
 I''m currently well into the Top 15 as far as ranking of Magnitude goes in the Neural Network - yet the devs are apparently saying that staking is more important that THE RESEARCH GRIDCOIN IS SUPPOSED TO BE SUPPORTING to have such an insanely HIGH requirement for me to get payouts.

 This needs to change, this is FUCKING the whole concept of Gridcoin support for BOINC research participants.



 BTW - that list does not show "how often" people get payouts, it only shows the last time the GOT a payout.
With that said, it's VERY bothersome that only ONE PERSON ON THAT LIST has less than 1000 Gridcoin and most of them have very low magnitudes.
That's TOTALLY BACKWARDS from what should be happening if this coin is actually intended to SUPPORT RESEARCHERS.

Apparently, as @Vortac noted, we also crossed 1000 points at Formula BOINC the other day. No team ever crossed 1000 pts at Formula BOINC, even in a full year. http://formula-boinc.org/

Oh, it happened after developers removed research weight from formula, you need something like 1000$ in your wallet now to stake every day. To get more accurate numbers just take a look at some users who stake every day.

Still waiting for a reply from anyone that has gotten a GRC payout in the last *3 weeks*.

Gridcoin has got me very close to the point of saying "forget about it, it's NOT paying out" and shifting back to working directly with the Distributed.Net project instead of with BOINC at all.

 Don't even get me started on the BROKEN current BOINC client.
