Things must be rough where you live if you consider $540 for a 1080 and $460 for a 1070 a great deal. You could buy two of the RX 470 4GB mining cards for $500 or the gaming RX 570 4GB cards for less than that, if you can find them and get roughly 20-30% more hashrate for the same price.

Nobody is selling the RX 470 mining cards for $250 - the NewEgg postings were mistakes, they don't even have the cards yet - and the rep I talked to was pretty sure they were NOT going to actually sell the things at MSRP or even close when they DO get them.

If you can get GTX 1070 at $400, GRAB THEM - that's bloody cheap at current pricing, and is the same ballpark they were in a month ago before the started getting impacted by the "mining caused GPU shortage".

Last time I checked NewEgg (yesterday), for example, the LOWEST they had a "in stock" GTX 1070 listed at was well over $500, and most were $600-$800 of the VERY FEW IN STOCK options they had at all.

BTW - they didn't have ANYTHING in an RX 470/480/570/580 for under $500 at all, and only 1 or 2 options under $600 - at current pricing the RX line has ZERO advantage in reaching ROI over the GTX 1070.

Trying to call those cards "$250 cards" is not valid and hasn't been for a month or two now.

I'm about to meet the dealer to buy 16 pieces 1080. The final price is 9000$ out-the-door
What do you guys think ?
What about the gtx 1070, ask him the price for 16 of them. GTX 1080 at $539 was a good price, for $30 more is not worth. Actually as you are buying many, a final price on the GTX 1080 for $530 a piece would be the deal.
gtx 1070 is 400$ but only 4 available

Get only the 4 and wait for others 1070 to be available, for $400, the gtx 1070 is a much better card.

GTX 1080 have a special memory and this memory don't work well for mining activity.
Then 1080 hashrate is not better than 1070's hashrate and they eat a lot of watts more.
Sometimes, 1080's hashrate is lower than 1070's...

This.  Having both 1080s and 1070s working I find the 1070s almost match the 1080.  I cannot speak about special memory, but performance is darn close, and I can tweak the 1070s down to under 110 watts and get almost the same numbers.  I only bought a couple 1080s so when I retire them I can run them in a game rig, but they pull more power and are barely better.

Also $459 for a 1070 is very pricey.  Look for prices more like $400 to $420

I am currently mining zec with 4 1070 at 3 usd per card.

Are there some more profitable options right now?

Right now the most profitable option might be to hold your ZEC and place sale orders for $ 350 or higher and wait some days Wink
The main other currencies are on low rates too, you might could mine some HUSH or FCT too when their difficulty rates are going down (just take care as they go up/down several times a day).

i'm also with the other that say to go with the 1070, it's better overall, there is no algo that the 1070 can mine bad, instead the 1080 have some algo that can not be mined very well, like ETH and feathercoin

imo, 1080 at right price, you get a card that will hold some resale, (1070 wont, theres WAY to many of them out there), and DENSITY matters
everyone can argue 1070's are better price to performance, or that two RX cards is better than a 1070 but jesus man think DENSITY

i gurantee you your ROI will catch up when others are building WHOLE nother rigs, just to have EQUAL hashrate as your 1080+ rigs

short-minders i tell ya people are haha

i am upgrading my 1070's to all 1080ti now, going long, DENSE solid high-hash rigs, then i dont need 25 new rigs, my FIVE will be as powerful. i will ROI b4 Volta is in our hands on the 1080ti, guranteed. and they will hold AWESOME resale still in 3-4 months (tho i will hold mine to mine with unless volta looks THAT good)

Good Luck on your choice!

in case i get the deal done, which you recommend: 1080 founder edition with 1 fan, or 1080 regular with 2 fans ?

2 or 3 fans, never 1 fan, mining needs cooling and 2 or 3 fans is ideal, 2 fans if noise bothers you.

I guess you missed or don't understand this part: The bottom line is I can mine more coins for the same amount spent on cards with the RX 4XX/5XX than any Nvidia 10 series cards. Even after the cards are paid off, I will still make more coins going with RX 4XX/5XX than I can buying 1070's or any other Nvidia card and if the profitability drops, I will still be able to make a profit where a single 1070 won't.

and you don't understand that what is the advantage from lower investments AFTER all investments are payed off?
you still pay for your cards something (beside power)? after the cards gone after they are payed off and you have to buy again new one for lower investment?

How much money do you make with 6 x RX4xx/5xx AFTER all your investments are payed?
How much money do you make with 6 x 1070 AFTER all your investments are payed?

Just two simple questions Wink

Your calculation would just be right if you permanently invest into new cards over and over again and throw them away after they are payed off Smiley

Two RX 4XX/5XX will make more profit than any single 1070 or 1080, whether the cards are paid off or not makes no difference in the profitability of the cards. A quicker ROI is an added benefit that comes from the cards being more profitable to mine with. Take ZEC for example, two RX 4XX/5XX will currently make $133 a month compared to $104 for a single 1070 after the power consumption is factored in.

https://www.coinwarz.com/calculators/zcash-mining-calculator/?h=620.00&p=250&pc=0.10&pf=3.00&d=3745339.65371322&r=10.00344334&er=0.11836001&btcer=2518.90000000&hc=0.00

https://www.coinwarz.com/calculators/zcash-mining-calculator/?h=470&p=150&pc=0.10&pf=3.00&d=3745339.65371322&r=10.00344334&er=0.11836001&btcer=2518.90000000&hc=0.00

If the difficulty doubles from where it is now. A single 1070 will make $53 a month vs $66 a month for two RX 4XX/5XX cards.
Which means it is more efficient and profitable to mine with RX 4XX/5XX cards than it is to mine with Nvidia 10 series cards.

No Question about it.  There is ABSOLUTELY NO VALUE IN 1080 Especially mining ZEC.

ZEC - 1070 - Asus Dual 8gb OC - I have 40 cards of this in 5 rigs.  Its AWESOME.  This card can be bios modded to install ASUS Dragon Bios and it will give 450 MHS/S - 1 Rig of 8 is 3400 HASHES Guaranteed.

PROS of 1070

Majority is SINGLE 8PIN.  Very important for LONG term MINING.
Much cheaper than 1080 for less than 100 hashes Difference.
the BEST Nvidia card there is for mining.

1080ti is also better ROI than 1080.  Its close to 1070.

Date            Card        Hasrate       Power
11-May   7x1080ti   4520       1520
15-May   7x1080   3500       1380
11-May   7x1070   3325       1050
20-May   7x1060   2030       870

This is Minimal Optimization.

I have a great deal to buy 10 - gtx 1080 at 539$ a piece brand new, another deal for 10 gtx 1070 at 459$ a piece.
I need some advice from people who own rigs of nvidia. Which one of these 2 would you buy and Does it worth to invest 5.5k in this deal ?
Thanks in advance!

Even if the epoch benchmark issue with the Claymore miner is not fixed or ETH goes to POS by that time, two RX 4XX/5XX card will easily do 620 H/s on ZEC or ~30% better than a 1070, or ~10% better than a 1080. Results for most other algoriths is similar. The bottom line is I can mine more coins for the same amount spent on cards with the RX 4XX/5XX than any Nvidia 10 series cards.

why you compare TWO RX4xx/5xx with ONE 1070? you think you will never pay off the investment? In case you never can get the money back from investment it makes anyway no sense to start even mining Wink

After the investment is payed off you make with ONE 1070 ~ 470 Sol/s and with ONE RX4xx/5xx just ~ 320 Sol/s - so after investment is payed off, with which hardware you can mine more and get better profit?
Or say it in this way, with 4 x 1070 i mine nearly the same than someone with 6 x RX4xx/5xx Wink
