There should be an childboard for How-to-Guides in the forum because most of them are really useful. It is unfortunate that some of them are buried with tons of threads here in the forum.

I've created [GUIDES] on Bitcointalk. Index thread today. I hope it can be replaced by a subforum, but until that happens, it serves as a reference of threads that fit the new subforum.

Good thing that you acted first. I'll bookmarked your thread so that if I see a knowledgeable guide i can notify you fast since your thread might be buried here, unless if it will be pin here in Meta.

I have been collecting a list of guides that I find useful for personal usage.
I am also collecting a list of useful link that has the potential to contribute into the community.
Please post anything I missed in my new topic, so I can add the links.

It would be nice to create a meta subforum where moderators could move how-to guides and other useful information.
You did great initiative, @Vod.
I think such helpful, collective sub-forum (or child board) like your suggestion will help crypto newcomers easier to find essential things for their interests.
Of course, the forum has already had Beginners & Help board, but there are hundreds of topics there, and as you stated (and we all can admit the fact) that such "Guides" topics covered by lots of non-sense, shitty topics in the board over time.

By the way, I would like to give a link to my guide topic, namely tbct_mt2's Guideline on some forum functions, English texbooks
I belive that at somewhat extent, my topic is helpful, informative, especially for beginners, but it's really hard to find it in Beginners & Help board.  Undecided

That's the point!
We all need a specific location, which only for "Guide on ... " topics, nothing else will be published there.
In such a board or child board, forum moderators will easier managed topics related to helpful guidelines.
Sure!  The location does not matter.  What matters is having one forum that we can direct all questions to - a forum that is controlled so it is not overrun by spam and useless threads.

Yes, I do love to suggest before as well about a pinned post regarding sub-board also, since people are confused where exactly to post their post like they are confused to post the topic about "Question about the campaign" like some people post it on  beginner and help, some post it on Marketplace (Altcoin), Service Discussion (Altcoin), I guess some of us need some guide the scope of topic that we can post in a certain Boards---- We will appreciate some update like this, like let the mod will work on it---

The suggestion is worth considering.

Though many newbies are "lazy" as observed above, yet a sub forum as suggested will even spur hardworking members and even entice such "lazy" ones to do a little research.

Creating such a sub forum will encouraged the OP of the materials to do more in-dept study to bring out more and more posts.

It will be easier to refer someone to the sub forum when you meet those in need.

Theymos,

Since the merit system, a lot of people are creating excellent how-to guides on this bitcoin forum.

All these guides are being lost as they age.

It would be nice to create a meta subforum where moderators could move how-to guides and other useful information.

Hopefully think it will be too much helpful if really we can see sub forum. Hopefully think we will get such a sub forum as soon as possible.

Totally agree. Somehow, the repeated questions seem to be a result of the messy state of the beginner's board. Maybe giving an alternative for those who really want to learn is a nice step.
But I do think this should be a sub-board in beginners and help, it will be easy for them to find some useful guides if they have it on a board with that name.

Oh Hell yeah. I would personally love that, I would love to read guides not only about this forum but crypto in its entirety.

I am writing a guide explaining how DT works and it shall be up and running soon. I probably also will make a V2 of shorena's One thread to link them all since that has been outdated, and the last update was February of last year. Thoughts?

I just would like to ask why in Meta?, Isn't much better if those guides are compiled in a subforum in Beginners & Help?

May be this one too (work in progress though):
[Eng: Tutorial] PGP Signature - Encrypt/Decrypt message - Fingerprint <=== https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/eng-tutorial-pgp-signature-encryptdecrypt-message-fingerprint-4059348

By the way Vod, good suggestion. For members especially new, this subforum could be an easy section to find their how-to's

IMO, we need two new subforums (one for each of the following boards: "Meta" & "Beginners & Help"):
  • Meta Guides = Belongs to this forum
  • Beginners & Help Guides = Guides that cover other things
I think most of the new comers are being to lazy searching on what they really want to know.

Spoon feeding will be a great solution for these guides.

A little off topic, I would like to ask theymos a favor. Sir, can you please add "Merits & new rank requirements" in stickies Smiley
Just like populating the "Guides" or "Bitcoin Wiki" with stickies with very useful "how-to guides". Just an opinion.

I think all of those how-to-guides that has been created is stored in Beginners & Help Section and it's not too difficult to find them since they're already in one section. But yeah, as days passes, although how important is a Guide is, incoming threads fully covered it up until no one knows that the guide is existing, that's the time where shitposters will make similar thread containing guides that has been copied and pasted from past threads, or sometimes they're coincidently making thread without knowing that it already exist because they're not using the "Search function" of the forum.

I just would like to ask why in Meta?, Isn't much better if those guides are compiled in a subforum in Beginners & Help?

Overall, it's a great idea. I'm amazed that you'd come up with this kind of proposal Sir. Looking forward for the successful outcome of this proposal. But just like others, this will surely have disadvantages, I just can't tell what.

There are also more important information that cannot be found in threads. Look at the top left corner of the Forum. If you see the "Help" next to "Home" then go pay a visit and you'll learn more.

I am also collecting a list of useful link that has the potential to contribute into the community. Also lots of them did not receive enough amount of merits even though it is a very high quality post.

The links I've collected are not just "How to" posts but also useful articles about the history and trivia facts about bitcoin.

Are these posts will going to receive merits if their topic has been moved in meta subforum or is it appropriate to create a new section to be more visible.

I have been collecting a list of guides that I find useful for personal usage. But I would invite the suggestion of adding a new board which listed all of these useful guides as long as they are either related to the forum or Bitcoin.

At the very least we should sticky a thread which lists all guides.
