Hey gang, thought I would write a
newbie review for anyone interested in taking a bite. Hopefully this is a helpful add to the other reviews.
The Headline:It's awesome and I'm having a blast! (
oh... and making a small profit)
About Me:I'm definitely
not a coder and only have limited skills creating .bat files or .js config files. I can barely setup miners and it usually takes me about an hour, a step by step tutorial page, a few curse words, and lots of trial and error. Also, I've been investing slowly in the stock market for 10-ish years and trading crypto slowly for about 6-months but I'm
not a technical trader and have very little stat knowledge. So to summarize; I've entered the world of bot-trading with very little skills.
Setup Experience:I poked around the Gunthy (
https://gunthy.org/index.php) forum before setting up my bot. Gunthy is a very active developer and new versions are uploaded to Github frequently. I decided to use v3.3.2 since it's very stable and has a (minimal) GUI to help setup trading pairs. I purchased my license and through a Telegram discussion Gunthy activated my Poloniex license. Since I obsessively cherish my BTC, and I was worried about something going dramatically wrong, I moved most my BTC to the lending account to keep them safe. I loaded up Gunbot, and although it didn't really guide me much; I was able to figure out the GUI and setup my first pair. Because I read this thread and the Gunthy forum, I understood what each field did, although I didn't really understand the math behind the scenes. I kept just about everything at the default and only changed the maximum trade value since I was so new.
First Step into Bot-Life:Okay, with a nervous click, my BTC_LTC pair went live. As mentioned, I moved most of my BTC to a Poloniex lending account so only .05 BTC was available to trade. I watched, and watched, and watched... and watched some more, and nothing happened. I was expecting the bot to start trading 100's of times a day and make me my 1% per trade!! I tweaked the settings slightly, read how it changed the buy/sell triggers, and continued to tweak some more. Still no trades, so I got frustrated and went to Poloniex and made my own trade, at the trigger I thought the bot should have done. The result... I ended up loosing on that trade. A little frustrated and a little confused, I moved the settings back to what I started with and went to bed.
Beginning to Understand Bot-Life:Waking up the next morning I ran to my machine to see what happened. Would I have an empty account, would I be a 'lambo owner'? Sure enough, over night my bot made a few trades and made me about 2%. Oh... my... gosh.
This is one of the coolest things I've ever seen. I opened up Gunbot and added pairs so 'I could witness the firepower of this fully armed and operational battle-bot!' I launched all the pairs, for a total of 10; and sat back and watched. There's a weird sense of wonder, joy, and anticipation watching the bot logging screen; I'm not ashamed to say I sat and watched the bot logging screen for almost an hour before I forced myself to do something productive around the house.
Living the Bot-Life:I've been using Gunbot for a little over a week; using simple strategies, and about 90% of my trades have been at a profit. I
only have trades setup to coins I don't mind holding; such as BTC, LTC, ETH, DASH, etc. The few loss trades are because the bot traded across a ping-pong and made profit but then the coin declined after a purchase and the bot hasn't sold yet. So it's not really a loss because the bot hasn't sold them yet. I've moved my coins out of lending and now I'm feeding my bot all my coins
(remembering that I setup pairs only on coins I believe in.)Final Thoughts:Gunthy's Gunbot is awesome. If you read his forum you'll see people making double digit profits but they're operating with dozens of pairs and against coins they don't really care about; as long as the coin has volatility they're setting up a pair. They're watching the market closely and touching their bot several times a day. I don't have the stamina or time for that, but even with my conservative setup I'm earning at least 1% a day on the pairs that are trading
(not all pairs will trade every day.) Beyond the profit though... there's a crazy sense of joy watching your bot work for you. I think I'd pay for the bot just for this even if it didn't make a profit. It's almost like watching your child walk for the first time (don't tell my wife I said this.)
Final final Thoughts:Buy it now! I've now purchased a second license for Bittrex; that's how much I love this.
