Was looking at this and running the numbers. @bittawm which model RPis are being used?
Running with the logic of if there are the later 3B then 8 of them are still worth $300 on the secondary market.
There are also some other RPi cluster projects out there.

Going to have to mull this over for a bit.

-Dave

They are the 3B+ model. (with 8 mini ethernet cables, a built in switch and power supply)

This unit retails for over 1k

I have changed price to $500

if the roi was closer to 10 months, I might be interested. I try to keep the roi range to around 10-12 months because most of these type of coins just continue to lose value vs gaining value.

I might be interested as a 'toy' but you can't order and the site is 'dorky' they likely, are in trouble with the BTC/Crypto crash project wise....no info

you would expect on such a project even if it was just a hobby 'toy' home miner like the Gekkoscience units. Befuddling. Sad

if you want to get involved just buy a single Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+, SD card, and PSU, install the skycoin software and you are good to go, you do not need to purchase this piece of hardware to skymine. it will cost you under $100 this way for one node.

however if you do want to buy this one (8 node skybox pro v2.0), I am selling it so just PM me

Wink

Good to know. You may want to paste this info out on google...get some press out for their project..there is a real lack of such, etc...I could not find even this on a search.

Just like I said, damn hard to get info on this yet...hopefully, they are getting their act together even in 'hobby' mode during the pandemic.

i think he says demo because their website still says pre-order and then it wont even let you pre-order. so essentially since you got one before they can be bought on the site, he is assuming it is a demo.

there are 200 people on the skybox pro telegram, many of which have the miners. I was just the first person to bring it to your attention.

but why are we getting caught up asking if this miner is real if I have one in hand I have verified???

lol I am not caught up in that portion - I am more curious how much it pays and how it calculates that payment - especially as I am out in the boondocks. I have a lot of bandwidth but also not sure if I would want to share that freely - I could just see watching a movie in HD streaming then it drops to 720 because my bandwidth is getting used lol.

I would prolly need to set up a secondary or have a way to limit the bandwidth it uses. I already have to shut all of my nodes off if I want to game online.

I am not 100% sure how much bandwidth it uses. but I can tell you 1 months rewards on testnet were 36 SKY.

It would take quite some time to ROI

my point is having a unit that is just a demo/prototype (see past mnfgs) mentioned does not mean you are gonna have a working miner with a network to mine on...

with no PR on the project and the head of the project ONLY being able to be contacted by you! It seems a bit of a risk, regardless of the 1 year ROI.

Also, add to the fact BTC/cyrpto has dumped in half in last month in price...does not help any project.

again, lack of info on a project... the fact it is a pre-order with no ship dates and no contact can be made with anyone on the project

well ..that ain't good

But good luck with your sale anyway... I feel anyone buying such has bigger brass ones than the rest of us with the above confusion and lack of contact with Dev.

As long as 'anyone buying your unit" is aware of the 'dangers' and pitfalls of above....and that it is a demo/unit you have ...they have been indeed warned of risks

on this thread..so that is a plus...things would be a hell of a lot more clear if a person could actually get a reply from the developer of these in some manner Sad

brad

1. this is not a prototype, it is a finished completed unit.

2. you are basically discrediting skycoin and every single skyminer DIY or Official, Anyone can be a part of this movement and shame on you for spreading FUD about something you know nothing about

3. there is plenty of info on the skycoin project. use google, jump in discord and telegram servers, ask questions, read here: https://www.skycoin.com

4. once again it is not a demo unit, i do not know why you keep referring to it as a demo unit

5. If I buy a single Raspbery Pi off anywhere that sells them, then load the skymining software, I can use it as a skyminer, I can sell it as a skyminer. (not a "demo" unit.... a full fledged operational skyminer). my point is if I bought a raspberry pi off aliexpress and sold it here as a skyminer, would you still be arguing? because skybox pro is NOT skycoin or skywire.

is your problem with skywire and skycoin in general or skybox pro? because you seem to have grouped all 3 of them together with your statements.

well you cannot really mine skycoin - it was fully premined - per their own whitepaper. What you do is basically provide bandwidth for them to run their VPN service on using your existing bandwidth, for which they reward you with skycoin.

The box is more of a node than a miner.

Sent you a PM. But after 3 tries if not contact at my end...I don't see how he can get this project off the ground....

I sent you my email...he can contact me via that...but right now everyone is wasting their time trying to do anything with this

no real info, no demo units, etc, etc

with the pandemic and crypto crash...he may, if he was borderline, out of the running on this anyway at this time

Hi Searing,

You seem to be missing this point completely. I believe this is NOT a scam, because I have dealt with the manufacturer and believe him, he has put significant effort into this and until I see a scam report, I do not think this is a scam.

Irrespective of that, I am not saying go and buy 1000s of pre-order units, I am trying to sell a demo unit I have in hand.

If you want the demo unit I have in hand, purchase it from me (At a heavily discounted rate compared to retail)

I dealt with BFL and I dealt with GAW and Paycoin (usb device) I've dealt with KNC and had friends where after pre-order Neptune device was made was mined by KNC for 9-10 months in 'testing'

like BFL and when released to customers only 3 months and then doorstop  and never to ROI...I've dealt with alpha tech which even took PayPal and had a prototype...never released publicly

the list goes on and on

all the above aside...if you can't get a hold of the place via their www site for months via email and no info on a PRE_ORDER these days you run away anyway

also, BFL has a fine FPGA brick that worked fine and on time before they released before their next releases which never showed up until way, way beyond ROI (SEC shut them down)...so just

having prototypes don't cut it either
---------------------------------------------
but again all the above set aside
---------------------------------------------
1) no way to contact the dev..no info on progress from dev...no prototypes to someone like me, Searing, or Philipma1957 nor even Voskooin ...you and a couple of NZ

folk just don't cut it...I mean really a pre-order page and no contact and no way to ask questions but through you who 'happens' to have gotten a unit or so?

2) network still in test mode.....again back to 'deafening silence'

3) no frigging info of any real note or kind on a google search on this product ..no one has heard of it..and if they have the buzz is that it has been a scam for the last 9 months

the only reason I even posted here was from what I've heard that it was a scam for the last 9 months and I know you are legit....thus my WTH posting of such?

Unless more info on all the above I'd stay away...good intentions are fine..but I'm not sure if even if such a badly run development project ..even if legit...can hang

together at the dump to the crypto prices, we have now..and the epic dump...so that is another boat anchor to what I see as probably a pie in the sky dream project

4) light a fire under the devs ass and get some 'legit' 3rd party reviews out there on bitcointalk and some development news and such...not just everything through

you and a frigging www page link and no reply

hell of a way to run a legit project IMHO..keep it secret with only the pre-order web site it seems and no reply to inquires on your project

also, why are you selling a unit if you think this is such a good project and coming out of development?

Without some more info from other sources (you are legit ..just saying) other sources....this does not pass the 'smell test' in any way at all at this time

perhaps this will change..but the project has a lot of miles to make up....in that like me most people that have heard about this project I talk to have said is a scam

for months now ....sad to say if legit...but hey..what's a guy supposed to think..again wrote off this project back months and months ago....so again am still dubious

in that, it pops up now as legit with the same lack of info and bad management and such...

legit it may end up being, but damn, they better ramp stuff up pronto, I do  google search and this thread pops up that can't be good...tell the dev he needs to step

things up or legit of not his project is doomed

Brad

you are still missing my point searing, irrespective if it is a scam or not I have a unit in hand ready to sell. that I have verified. (not a prototype, a finished unit)

I know its not a scam because I have had the pleasure of speaking to the manufacturer. but once again that is besides the point.

you need to research skyminers, google "official skyminer" the devs of the coin sell these, this is not an official skyminer, this is a DIY skyminer. google "DIY skyminers" for more info.

anyone can create a DIY skyminer, all you need is a raspbery PI and you officially have a single node DIY skyminer.

This machine is merely 8 RPIs bound together in a nice compact case.

why am I selling?Huh  I dont want to wait over 1 year to ROI, if someone else wants this new toy they can buy it for $700usd, otherwise they can buy any raspbery Pi and do the same thing elsewhere.

This is not the cheapest skyminer available but it sure is one of the sexyest skyminers I have ever seen, very compact too.

I am selling something in hand, I am not asking for pre-orders.

Skybox pro did not develop skycoin, he is a just a freelancer who made a really nice looking skyminer called the skybox pro.

If you want many more of these I can get them through the manufacturer direct,

NO ONE IS ASKING YOU TO PREORDER FROM THE WEBSITE.

The real gamble is that after testnet what the rewards will be, no one knows but it is really exciting for the skycoin community.

BTW i have been around for BFL, KNC, GAW and all of the others.
