Do your best to work, but also be flexible, neither can be less.

I think you need to have both; hard work and be smart when you work to be successful because if you don’t work hard then how can you achieve your goals to be successful. And if you don’t work smart too, how can you figure out what you’re doing will make you finish your work in order to be successful? So basically, you need to have both to be successful in life.

I think hard graft with a hint of smart will get you further than constantly looking for smart work.

Other people's work. History shows this provides the greatest success.

Working hard isn't just all about being employed.

You can apply that with your own business which is very much needed when you start. And that's why you see known companies today became successful because of its founders work hard and then latter, they worked smart.

People often say that "you will win through hard work," but in the workplace, this sentence is not 100% correct. Many times, working too hard does not necessarily get a promotion or a salary increase, but a big reduction in points and even a job loss.

I think smart work is more important than hard work. As we all know, enterprise innovation comes from employees with innovative spirit and innovative ability. Employees can get performance improvement even with sweat. But if employees do not incorporate more wisdom into their work, it will be difficult to make breakthroughs in their work. All people who have achieved outstanding results in their work have a common successful experience, that is: while giving sweat, they also give wisdom.

People who work hard are the laziest because they don’t think about how to work

Steve Jobs said: “I choose a lazy person to do a hard job. Because a lazy person will find an easy way to do it.”

The future, in my opinion, is transforming the hard manual work in a simple (or automated) work.

Believe it or not, machines will be the end of us all because they're gonna replace us eventually. It's just a matter of time.

So to answer your question. Smart work, definitely.

That's like asking which is more important to calculating the area of a rectangle: the length or the width. In a world with billions of competitors, you have to fire on all cylinders and all times to come out ahead of the pack. Work relentlessly, to the peak of your abilites, and increase your chance of success as well as you can.

Hard work is essential and only thing that you require to understand is that you need to be smart enough to know that in which work you need to work so hard so that you can rise and shine from it. Not every work requires hard work and also prioritize so that you put the right channel of focus and energy on which is more important in order to move ahead.

I'd say they are mutually inclusive.

Take an analogy of a computer algorithm/ cool application  as an example:

Working smarter: we could take that to mean using deep learning or other recursive data analysis to determine how/what we look for. The "why" in our work. This phase might mean many other algorthims might get use quicker or be adopted by more people before our in this hypothetical example. This is an architecture heavy, engineering light approach, I guess.

And working harder: to mean the application of iterations or intensity on work.( I think intensity would make more sense).

So the fundamental difference would not be in whether you use "hard" work or "smart" work...it would be at what stage of your goal achievement process do you utilise either and in what proportions. Hard work is always essential...but not if it's detremenal.

For example, once you've mastered how to achieve your end result quicker or in some way better( which will involve a lot of upfront architectural design...lot of analysis and trial/error etc....) You can then apply hardwork to great result.

If you apply that hardwork too early, without fully understanding, you will always be comprised in some way...running in less than ideal circumstances. This could either cause you to only achieve X versus Y, or it could cause you to fail all together.

obviously i would opt for smart working, what is more beautiful than producing income from the comfort of your own home without having to waste time, go out to work, have extra costs such as those for gasoline and food

it is smart work for me , I have tried being a hard working person but always not enough for me to Gain what i want to be.
Until i start using the smart way , I studied a lot about things that i will enter  Specially in work , and then apply the smart way than the hard of working and guess what? i was promoted for just 6 months , from day forward i always keep the smart strategy than harder one.

NONE OF THE ABOVE because we need both of them for us to be successful , Smart can be good but without hard work the effect is less.

Same as if we are hardworker but not so smart because people can fool us and may buy our product in lower value ..

Having this both will turns you to become rich , specially if you have a good heart for others.

Both smart work and hard work can determine us to succeed. You can get the reward for doing both in the future because success needs time to get it. You need to be patient while doing both things because the result will not lie to you. So if you think you can smart work and hard work, you will succeed in the future.

If the floor cleaner thinks smarth then he will increase the size of the stick as you mentioned so that he can reduce the time by half, what I mean working hard is, if the cleaner increased the mop size and made the things work faster then he can complete the work in 1/4 than usual that is what I am talking about working smart and hard, because time is precious so one who use it effectively can be successful sooner.

injury, muscle strains. time off to recuperate.. hard work is not always good for the body
yes lazy work(9 hours in a chair pushing pencils)is worse. but smart work is not office lazyness

smart work can get the job done faster/more efficient without strain. meaning new options:
ask for payrise
ask to go home early to enjoy more leisure time
get paid the same but work less hours

The only that matter is how much have you earn in doing the smart work., if you are not earning as much as you did with hard work then it doesn't matter. Its the money that you get that counts. In the end, doing hard work will really benefit both your body being healthy and at the same time you can provide food on the table for your family.

I agree that you need to think, not just do it hard. You can organize your activities so that it is several times more effective if you use your brains for this. But this doesn't mean that your work should harm someone, you need to be smart, but not steal from other people.
