Well it depends on your needs and purpose. For me I  would prefer to use hardware wallet for long term hold of coins  where you can kept for long period of time or sometimes open it. But for daily transactions I prefer online wallet say for example for  trading. I let it stay on  exchanges, a substantial amount for easy trading and transfer of funds to other web wallet.

Surfing on the bitcointalk forum, I sometimes see some threads discussing about hacking of wallets and the discussion is geared towards the best wallets to secure individuals from hackers. Hardware wallets are normally mentioned. I decided to find out about hardware wallets and my searches made me know that, wallets which are normally hacked are of software base. I found out that some viruses which attack computers are able to steal private keys from the software wallets that we normally use. The issue of virus attacking a computer makes the use of hardware wallet very advantageous over software wallet since the hardware wallet are immune against viruses, hence viruses cannot steal from such wallets. My question is what are some of the hardware wallets and how can one get a hardware wallet?
I just a little bit understand about your question.
There are some hardware wallet
1 Trezor
2 Nano ledger
3 Created your own hardware wallet through used USB (someone has posted how to do this)

If you are interesting to get hardware wallet and you can try to go to
1 https://trezor.io/ (if you are interested to buy trezor) it has a better security compared with nano
2 https://www.ledgerwallet.com/ (If you are interested to buy nano) it was focusing to support various coins.

Honestly, i'm trezor user and i never have any problem with it. But in my experience use software wallet is safe too as long as you can keep your desktop clean from the malware anytime.
